Quote Of The Day

One of my favorite actors, 76 year old Michael Caine, gives us the quote of the day:

“The Government has taken tax up to 50 per cent, and if it goes to 51 I will be back in America,” he said at the weekend. “We’ve got 3.5 million layabouts on benefits, and I’m 76, getting up at 6am to go to work to keep them. Let’s get everybody back to work so we can save a couple of billion and cut tax, not keep sticking it up.”

“Atlas Shrugged” becomes more and more relevant as governments take more and more of what people earn while leveraging such actions on the support of those “layabouts” Caine cites. The good news is that Caine has America to fall back on, which has relatively lower taxes. The bad new is, given the amount of debt being piled on, that is going to change.

  • Michael Caine may have to rethink his moving here to the US. Because while 50% tax in the UK may sound high now, wait until The Clown™ has to boost taxes on every breathing person in this country to pay for his unending spending spree. Then 50% will look like a tax holiday to him.

  • I’d recommend HK, or one of the many eastern European countries with flat taxes.

I suspect he said the USA in an effort to buck us up to avoid slipping into UK/West Euro model.

  • Will gladly trade Michael Cain for Krysztian Zimerman any day.

  • And now things will only get worse, what with Arlen “No Republican Was I” Spector switching parties.

Prediction: Pat Toomey was already going to win the GOP primary in 2010. The Democrats in Pennsylvania will not be thrilled with a DINO being the nominee of their party. There will be a primary challenge. If not, enough Democrats will stay homes that in a close race Spector loses.
