Welcome To Bizarro World

Sy Hersh, not yet ready to leave the evil cabal of Bush/Cheney alone, has concocted a real beaut this time and is peddling it on Arab TV (what other media outlet would be open to this stuff?), just in time to inflame the unwashed masses in the Middle East:

Former prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on the orders of the special death squad formed by former US vice-president Dick Cheney, which had already killed the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafique Al Hariri and the army chief of that country.

The squad was headed by General Stanley McChrystal, the newly-appointed commander of US army in Afghanistan. It was disclosed by reputed US journalist Seymour Hersh while talking to an Arab TV in an interview.

Hersh said former US vice-president Cheney was the chief of the Joint Special Operation Command and he clear the way for the US by exterminating opponents through the unit and the CIA. General Stanley was the in-charge of the unit.
Seymour also said that Rafiq Al Hariri and the Lebanese army chief were murdered for not safeguarding the US interests and refusing US setting up military bases in Lebanon. Ariel Sharon, the then prime minister of Israel, was also a key man in the plot.

A number of websites around the world are suspecting the same unit for killing of Benazir Bhutto because in an interview with Al-Jazeera TV on November 2, 2007, she had mentioned the assassination of Usama Bin Laden, Seymour said. According to BB, Umar Saeed Sheikh murdered Usama, but her words were washed out from the David Frosts report, he said.

Got that? Bhutto was killed at Cheney’s behest (he apparently was the secret chief of the JSOC) by Gen. McChrystal and the boys (McChrystal soon to be the commander in Afghanistan headed the “squad”) because Bhutto blurted out that bin Laden was dead and that, unfortunately for her, undermined the given reason for the US being in A’stan.

Wow. How this guy gets even the coverage he does (The Nation and Arab TV) amazes me. At least The Nation jabbed Hersh with the “reputed journalist” tag. Arab TV, though, will eat it up with a spoon.

  • While I don’t believe in “invisible” conspiracies (with more than 1 player), I always thought that if UBL quietly died, it was a win-win for all involved  …   al-Qa’ida gets a leader that can’t be captured, while the CIA et al gets foe that won’t go away.

How is this bad for POTUS Obama ?
After all the effort Obama went to to apologize and such, now he is basically called a fool for continuing in Afghanistan since UBL is now (supposedly) dead.  Meanwhile the Darth Cheney myth grows.

    • How is this bad for POTUS Obama ?

He just appointed the “chief assassin” as US commander in Afghanistan, so to the Arab TV viewers, he is either stupid or under the control of Darth Cheney (or the CFR, the “Bildaberg” elites or such) or is Darth Cheney just a stepping stone to Darth Soros and TIAA-CREF.

(I can’t stop myself from laughing)

      • I can see that someday our grandchildren will be adminshed to eat their green bean or “Darth Cheney will get them!”

  • Hold on here.  Apparently, Sy Hersh is now claiming he never said any of this stuff.

So where did “The Nation” get it ?  “It was disclosed by reputed US journalist Seymour Hersh while talking to an Arab TV in an interview.”

  • Next thing you know they will changing Gitmo’s name to something pretty

    How about … Chez Guevara
What lefty could hate a name like that.

  • My theory that Hersh is a self-loathing moron would seem to have been confirmed once again.

    • WTF!?

      Your theory!?

What is it in this refuted report from Hersch that confirms your theory that Hersch is “self-loathing”?

Hersch is, if anything, a self-congratulatory narcissist.  If this report is true, then the display should lead any thinking person to believe at Hersch puts his own importance ahead of his fellow countrymen by going on Arab TV to damn an American administration as assassins of innocent and beloved foreign leaders.  Which would scream of narcissism rather than “self-loathing.”

      Dude… WTF???
Do you even consult your tiny brain before you post here?  Maybe you should go back to your old habits of your typos and misspelling of every other word.  I would hate to think of you spending so much of what little brain power you have on your clumsy hunt and peck.

  • I bet he never said it. His conspiracy theories are usually more plausible – in this case the McChrystal detail and the Hariri allegation are simply too ludicrous.

Plus, we can be sure that liberal MSM layers of fact-checking were involved, i.e. some blog said something about this and so its fit to print.

  • I mean, think about this…Hariri was the best thing we had going in Lebanon and after Beruit 1982, we would never, ever want bases there – except in Biden’s imaginary world where we drove Hezbelloh out.

McChrystal? Isn’t this a little below his rank to be handling? And so convenient he’s Obama’s new pick – you know the jihadis have to start to pin stuff on Obama, too, so this is a nice intro.

  • Hersh denied that he made the charges, blaming “blogs going bonkers with misleading and fabricated stories and professional journalists repeating such rumours without doing their job.” If I were a conspiracy theorist like Hersh, I’d say that the Nation story was planted by a party–such as the ISI–that is not friendly to U.S. interests and wants to actively undermine our efforts in Afghanistan.

  • He’s now denying he ever said it.
let’s see if anyone accepts the denial.

  • This is it. The liberals have gone stock cold crazy to allow this to continue.

Someone needs to go right up to said Mr. Hersh and hit him really hard in the face with a pie. Maybe they can break his nose, maybe they can break his glasses. No matter what they do, this pr!ck needs to learn a lesson, and learn a good one: your lies are hurting America and Americans.

If someone does not want to go down this path, we should launch a national boycott of The New Yorker until Hersh either shows the proof of his baloney (which he fails to do time and time again) or is FIRED.

Enough is enough. The lies of the Left have to stop – right here, right now.

    Is anyone with me?

  • If we boycotted qando until it proved SHersh actually said this, would anyone notice?

[T]here’s a special unit that does high-value targeting of men that we believe are known to be involved in anti-American activities, or are believed to be planning such activities…

And it’s not just in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s in a lot of other countries, in the Middle East and in South Asia and North Africa and even central America. In the early days, many of the names were cleared through Cheney’s office…

The former head of JSOC has just been named the new commander in charge of the war in Afghanistan, which is very interesting to me.

About Hariri, what I’ve always maintained – I was in the position of seeing and interviewing President Bashar Al Assad on the day Hariri was killed in February 2005 – it seemed clear to me that he knew nothing about it. But I never wrote anything about it, even the fact that I was there, because I had no empirical or factual basis for knowing whether he was involved or not, and I never did. And I decided to wait for the investigations and they have come up with no concrete evidence that Syria did it.

    • But Tom, please continue your boycott anyway — you’re an idiot.

    • Proof just got posted.

Unless you can show it was somehow faked.  He very carefully implicated Cheney in Haririr and Bhutto’s murder.

  • And here I thought this was going to be another post about Pelosi…

  • Pakistan’s not Arab.

(And I’m actually inclined to believe Hersh’s denial – all his previous accusations that were never  substantiated [or, to be fair, proved false either] were at least made in mainstream media or in person and aloud in the US while giving talks, and he’s stood by them*, as far as I know.

    * That is, he’s not denied saying them.

This appeared in an unimportant Pakistani paper, and he’s absolutely denied it; the mode is so different, as well as the content, that I’ m perfectly willing to believe the paper or its writer was making it up.)

    • Pakistan’s not Arab – shhhhhhh, you’ll upset all the people on both sides of the aisle who think they’re all one uniform mass of people in that part of the world and that Islamicand Arab really mean the same thing.

  • Twba and JWG,

Thank you for posting the video link and transcript.  Nice thing about the internet: it’s easier to check out claims and stories to see if they are true or not.

Parsing words, one could say that Hersh never said we killed Hariri.  Based on the interview / transcipt posted above, he merely claims that he never saw evidence that Syriadid it while nattering about the alleged death squad that Cheney headed up.  The interviewer suggests with his question that we did it.  Perhaps there is more footage in which Hersh goes further; if so, I’d like to see it.  Otherwise, it would appear that The Nation has… um… exaggerated what Hersh said.

    • exaggerated what Hersh said

I would agree with that statement. However, Hersh has clearly implied as much in his own words, and we don’t know what he has said person-to-person in interviews that may provide further detail. Also based on Hersh’s past conspiratorial statements against the US and its military, it doesn’t seem far-fetched to believe Hersh has gone father than what is currently shown on video.

    • “The interviewer suggests with his question that we did it.”

And if Hersh does not mean to agree with that proposition–a statement directly made to him in an interview–he should deny it then–in some way he should demur.  He does not, so he acquiesces to the suggestion that Cheny had the killing done.

  • What’s the saying? A lie will make it around the Earth before the truth can get its pants on?

    Something like that.

If Cheney was going to have someone assassinated, he’d start with Hugo Chavez, make his head explode on live television, so that the point wasn’t missed. As goofy as Pat Robertson is, he got that one right.
