“Cap And Trade” And Its Probable Results

The Heritage Foundation breaks ‘cap and trade’ down to 10 points you may want to consider:

1. Cap and Trade Is a Massive Energy Tax

2. It Will Not Make a Substantive Impact on the Environment

3. It Will Kill Jobs

4. It Will Cause Electricity Bills and Gas Prices to Sharply Increase

5. It Will Outsource Manufacturing Jobs and Hurt Free Trade

6. It Will Make You Choose Between Energy, Groceries, Clothing, and Haircuts

7. It Will Be Highly Susceptible to Fraud and Corruption

8. It Will Hurt Senior Citizens, the Poor, and the Unemployed the Worst

9. It Will Cost American Families Over $3,000 a Year

10. President Obama Admitted “Electricity Rates Would Necessarily Skyrocket” Under a Cap-and-Trade Program (January 2008)

So, what can you expect when they realize that number 8 makes it a very regressive tax?

That’s right, a subsidy will somehow become part of the arrangement. And who pays subsidies? What those who they arbitrarily determine can “afford” them.

Therefore, in addition to this:

Be prepared to actually pay more than that for those who can’t “afford” it (8), unless, of course, cap and trade has helped you achieve number 3.

  • Wait, this could work.  The new administration’s policies are designed to provide more aid and support for the poor.  Their economic policies are bound to make us all poor.  Therefore, we’ll all be eligible for aid and support from the government!

Is there anything missing from my calculations, or can I start planning for my worry-free future?

    • You’re only missing the fact that some animals are always going to be more “equal” than others.

As for the top ten, most of those are the goals of the Left.

  • It’s been noted by people smarter than I, that the policies the Democrat party espouses always end up making things worse economically in spite of their claims of making it all better. At some point, we must start making the assumption that the end effect of these policies are the actualy intended ones… that these people actually WANT to cripple America, and start treating them accodingly.

    • Eric, how can you say that?

How could anyone think that a man like Obama, a man who spent 20 years in Wright’s church, a man who was mentored by Bill Ayers, a man who’s wife is proud of this country, would ever do something intentially to hurt this country?

    • It’s been noted by people smarter than I,

Oh, the number of people smarter than you.  A number astronomical and inconceivable even by the most brilliant mathematicians.

At some point, we must start making the assumption that the end effect of these policies are the actualy intended ones… that these people actually WANT to cripple America, and start treating them accodingly.

Yes, because it’s clear that Democrat’s secret plan to hold onto power is to “actualy” intend to cripple America.  And you should start treating them “accodingly.”

And as it’s been noted here, by people way smarter than you, that the current crop of Republicans are nothing but Democrat-lite.  So “accoding” to your logic, then the current crop of Republicans must “actualy” want to cripple America as well.

“Accoding” to the people here “actualy” smarter than you.

      Right?

  • Sounds awesome… lets save earth from global warming!!!

  • I would like to see someone run some commercials, showing what “cap and trade” does, and highlighting a picture of The Clown™, with a nice fat sign:

PRESIDENT OBAMA JUST DOESN’T CARE IF YOUR ENERGY RATES EXPLODE. CALL THE WHITE HOUSE AND TELL HIM THAT YOU CARE, EVEN IF HE DOESN’T.

That would scare the Democrats right out of their socks. And would make them as popular as they were, say in October 1994. Remember what happened the following month their silly party?

  • Is any of this really a surprise?  Did anyone really think there was a way we could invent, and I do mean, invent, an item of value from thin air, distribute the item in some essentially random fashion, dictate that everyone was now forced to USE the item, and that it wasn’t going to cost the consumer tier at the bottom of the pyramid of fun and adventure?

    Really?

I mean, we might as well proclaim leaves to be currency(thank you Golgafrincham and Douglas Adams) and expect a different result.

  • Eric FlorackAt some point, we must start making the assumption that the end effect of these policies are the actualy intended ones… that [democrat scum] actually WANT to cripple America, and start treating them accodingly.

An unfortunate conclusion, but the only other one that I can see is that democrats (spit) really are that stupid.  Do they believe their own schlock that, contrary to actual evidence, the earth is heating up due to CO2 emissions, that the only way to stop this process is to levy massive taxes on “carbon use”, and that this process will actually CREATE jobs?  That a government takeover of the health care industry will somehow reduce costs while providing better care?   That cutting taxes while massively increasing spending will lay a solid foundation for future economic growth and prosperity?

To the extent I have ever seen democrats (spit) actually engage on these issues, they usually rely on argument by assertion, appeal to emotion, ad hominems against their critics, bald-faced lies, or outright avoidance.  They can’t explain how their going to pay for health care or how massive taxes on energy will be GOOD for an economy that absolutely depends on cheap energy.  H*ll, they’ve only just now realized that they never came up with a plan for the detainees at Club Gitmo if they actually succeeded in closing the place.  It would be funny to watch if TAO’s Plan A wasn’t to release terrorists into our own country (may I suggest San Francisco? Or Chicago?  Maybe they could become community organizers and work with Bill Ayers.  Birds of a feather, you know).

Come to think of it, I have read that many criminals show a similar inability to see the consequences of their actions.  So, is it that democrats (spit) are:

    (A) Liars

    (B) Morons

    (C) Criminals

    You be the judge.

  • Do they believe their own schlock that, contrary to actual evidence, the earth is heating up due to CO2 emissions, that the only way to stop this process is to levy massive taxes on “carbon use”, and that this process will actually CREATE jobs?  That a government takeover of the health care industry will somehow reduce costs while providing better care?   That cutting taxes while massively increasing spending will lay a solid foundation for future economic growth and prosperity?

Oh, I’m sure some do. I think the oft-made comparison to the followers of the guy with the weird mustache particularly apt when it comes to how people come to the way of thinking you describe. Until of course, reality rears it’s head, and the real purposes of the political sleight of hand come out. May we in America fare better.

    • I would say that there isn’t much comparison between democrats (spit) and the followers of Schickelgruber.  He was quite up-front about what he wanted to do, and the Germans were increasingly enthusiastic about it; it’s not like people read the Völkischer Beobachter over their ersatz schwartzbrot and blutwurst on Sept. 2, 1939 and said, “WTF???  How did THIS happen???”

TAO and the O-bots are different: he routinely says one thing, then does something quite different.  How many times in the past couple of weeks have the libs been boned by The Annointed One, their messiah?  Schickelgruber got the willing cooperation of the Germans; many of the O-bots go along with TAO because they are too stupid to know any better.

  • The sad thing is that the media is still covering for him on this issue.

Case in point: Pulitzer Prize-winning Politifact.org. Politifact’s position is that cap and trade will only cost each American household an additional $800, because Obama has promised to return all of the other proceeds of the tax to the people.

It would take more than a sledgehammer to get it through their thick skulls that that promise can’t possibly be kept because to do so would defeat the purpose of having the cap and trade tax in the first place — to artificially reduce consumption.

So, instead of acknowledging that simple truth, they accuse the GOP of “pants-on-fire” lying — a designation they can’t even bring themselves to give to Nancy Pelosi’s “The CIA never told me nothin’” lie.

  • And as it’s been noted here, by people way smarter than you, that the current crop of Republicans are nothing but Democrat-lite. So “accoding” to your logic, then the current crop of Republicans must “actualy” want to cripple America as well.

As a matter of fact, I’ve made that argument repeatedly over the last decade or so, yes.  Such was my comment as regards John McCain, for example, whom I regarded as the lesser evil but not by much.

Any other questions, or can we simply assume you’ve shot the whole wad, here?
