Orszag: Advocates Of Delay Just Trying To Kill Health Care Reform

We now have the White House Budget Director weighing in on health care reform legislation:

ORSZAG: We have to remember: there are some who are advocating delay simply because they don’t have anything to put on the table. The typical Washington bureaucratic game of — ‘if you don’t have a better alternative, just delay in the hope that that kills something’ is partly what’s playing out here.

Of course what Peter Orszag seems not to understand is that most of those trying to delay (and eventually kill) the legislative monstrosity called “health care reform” are quite happy with putting nothing on the table as they don’t buy into the manufactured crisis being whipped up by the administration.

Nothing of earth shaking consequence is going to happen in the health care world if this bill isn’t passed before August.  In fact, most likely that statement is true of next August and the following one as well.

What you really hear Orszag subtly acknowledging is the longer this goes on, the more people are going to become aware of what is in the bill and object to the cost and intrusion. This isn’t about “better alternatives” or their lack thereof. This is about the administration’s fear that delay means defeat because of what’s in the bill. Hence the attempt to rush something through before it can be read and understood and certainly before members of Congress have to go home and face their angry and concerned constituents.

  • wow !!!  how very well spoken,  as i have no idea what you are doing for a living it must indeed include polictics or law!
i was very impressed.  thank you   jan

  • 40 years ago today, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, died when a car driven by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy went off the Chappaquiddick bridge into 8 feet of water.
If the “Kennedy health care reform” had been passed by now, we could all take a ride with the Senator.
Who wants to go first ?

During his campaign, TAO frequently promised that HIS administration would have transparency: HE would be open and honest with the American people, in contrast with the hated George Bush who maliciously and perhaps criminally refused to let the public know about and debate little things like top-secret intelligence programs.  This was part ‘n’ parcel of an implicit vow to return the power of government to the people.

    Liar, liar, pants on fire!

How long did it take for him to scotch his solemn promise to wait several days before signing a bill into law so that the American people would have time to read it and comment?  I don’t think the park service had finished cleaning up the tons of rubbish his followers strewed all over the Mall during that disgusting orgy known as his Inauguration!

Now we see him AGAIN rushing a bill through the Congress in an obvious attempt to deny people – even members of Congress – an opportunity to read and analyze it.

    So much for transparency.

But I think he’s worried about nothing.  The fact of the matter is that the libs have won on the central point of the debate: everybody seems to agree that SOMETHING needs to be done to “reform” health care.  Yep, the system’s broken, and the only point of contention is what to do to fix it.  I’ve seen a few rumors that either enough Republicans will cave and pass Obamacare, or else the “blue dogs” will form a temporary coalition with their GOP opposite numbers to pass some sort of “compromise” bill.

Either way, the libs win.  If TAO gets everything he wants because swine like Snowe, Collins, Graham, Voinovitch or any of the other usual suspects cave, than that’s gravy for him (and disaster for the rest of us).  But what if the Congress winds up presenting him with what amounts to a GOP version of health care “reform”?  He’ll sign it with a whoop and a holler about “bipartisanship”, MiniTru will declare it a much-needed victory for him… and democrats will immediately start adding things into the program until, sooner or later, it winds up indistinguishable from Obamacare.  ANY health care “reform” will be the camel’s nose under the tent, a camel that will carry us to financial ruin.

  • My open letter to Mr. Orszag:

    Dear Sir,

Yes, I want Mr. Obama’s socialist takeover plan for health care to fail. Like Rush Limbaugh said, I want Mr. Obama to fail. I want you to fail. I want the Democrats to fail. I want your whole stinking program, from start to finish, to fail. First I want the GOP to crush you in congressional elections next year. Then, in 2012, I want Mr. Obama kicked out of the White House and sent packing back to his fellow thugs, Jew haters, murderers, terrorists and assorted financial thieves and crooks in Chicago, where he can go write some more phony books. And I want the rest of your silly administration to be tossed out of power in DC, never to reappear to do our nation harm again.

That’s it. I want you to fail. And I want your Socialist program for health care to die.

I want it DEAD, DEAD, DEAD.

    Now go f*ck yourself, creepo.

    Yours,

An American citizen (who, by the way, did not vote for your criminal boss)

  • It kind of reminds me of how the Democrats treated efforts to reform Social Security, Fannie & Freddy, etc.

I think your holding back your true feelings.  Don’t forget that after the “GOP to crush you in congressional elections next year” you will be enjoying hearing “We Won” come from the other end of Pennsyvania Ave. and watching his boss learn a new meaning to the term “bipartisan”

  • It really does your heart go to know that your government is working to maximize the value of every dime you pay in taxes, so this should give most of us a “heart attack” …
$2,531,600 for “ham, water added, cooked, frozen, sliced, 2-lb.”
$1,191,200 for “2 pound frozen ham sliced.”
$351,807 to “replace and upgrade the dumbwaiter.”
    $1,562,568 for “mozzarella cheese.”
    $5,708,260 for “process cheese.”

  • $2,531,600 for “ham, water added, cooked, frozen, sliced, 2-lb.”

Um… why is Uncle Sugar buying this much ham as part of the “recovery” process???  If this was 1935, I’d say that it was for government soup kitchens and the like.  But in 2009???  What will Uncle Sugar do with all this food?  At local (No. Carolina) retail prices, that’s over 40 THOUSAND pounds of the stuff.
