Arab-American Miss USA

I note this for a single reason:

Fakih, an Arab-American from Dearborn, Mich., told pageant organizers her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths. She moved to the United States as a baby and was raised in New York, where she attended a Catholic school. Her family moved to Michigan in 2003.

Pageant officials said historical pageant records were not detailed enough to show whether Fakih was the first Arab American, Muslim or immigrant to win the Miss USA title. The pageant started in 1952 as a local bathing suit competition in Long Beach, Calif.

How will the Arab nations accept Ms. Fakih’s win given she was seen “strutting confidently in an orange and gold bikini” during the contest?

Just curious.

  • she attended a Catholic school

It always amazes me who went to Catholic schools. I’ve run into Hindus who went to Catholic schools.

  • I’m going to be jaded and wonder if PC isn’t a factor in this selection, can’t help it.  Which is sad, because it takes away from whatever other accomplishments these women have that qualifies them to be Miss USA, this girl in particular ( I know ZERO about her).

Still, there it is.  I expect this will garner Mr. Trump all kinds of headlines for his pageant, and frankly, I feel sorry for this girl since I think it will cause more trouble than good for her.  Too many ‘defenders of the faithful’ out there to just ignore her on a couple levels – the swimsuit being but one of them.   More corruption from the Christian west.

  • I don’t know how the Arab world will react to it, but I know how google will react to it.  If you do a google search on her and click on images, you won’t find a picture of her in a bathing suit.  But I did a quick google search on the 4 previous USA winners and clicked on images.  All had bathing suit picture(s) on the  first page.  Surprised?  Not really.

    • Well, the one I saw is going to harm Islam I’m sure.   Eyow.

      • Brings a whole new meaning to “radical Islamist”

        • Listen if THIS were “the problem” with radical islamisists…..well….I think the problem would consist of too many guys visiting the Middle East looking for radical islamists of their own.

  • Check out Miss USA Rima Fakih when she won Mojo In The Morning’s “Stripper 101″ contest in 2007.
Donald Trump seems to attract a strange set of people to the Miss USA events.  I guess it’s his lot in life.

  • Given that “her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths”, I don’t think primarily Muslim countries will look too approvingly on her regardless of her state of undress.

  • The topic has prompted interesting ads.  “Meet your arab princess…”

  • She is also an award winning pole dancer. Seriously.

    • And here I thought “award winning pole dancers” were those who took home the most garter money at night (and yes I realize “pole dancer” can be construed another way, but this is a family friendly site).

I haven’t seen too many photos of her, but from the one’s that I HAVE seen, I would have to say that any reaction from men of ANY nationality other than whistling, panting, sucking in the gut, and scheming to get her phone number are proof positive of mental illness.  From women, of course, I expect nothing but jealous grumbling.
