Natural disaster? It’s capitalism’s fault …

Strongman Hugo Chavez says the flooding in Venezuela that has resulted in 70,000 homeless and 32 deaths is easy to understand.  It’s the result of “criminal capitalism” and it’s effect on the world’s climate:

"The developed nations irresponsibly shatter the environmental order, in their desire to maintain a criminal development model while the immense majority of the earth’s people suffer the most terrible consequences," he said on Venezuelan television Sunday.

You may be wondering why this sort of stupidity is even worth mentioning.  It is worth mentioning because it is a sterling example of the nonsense that has been precipitated by AGW scaremongering that I discuss below.  This is a dictator’s excuse, however absurd it sounds, for his regime’s inability to control the flooding in his country.

"The world’s powerful economies insist on a destructive way of life,” he said on Sunday. "And then refuse to take any responsibility."

I’m sure it doesn’t take much imagination to figure out what taking "responsibility" would mean. In the past this would be viewed as another in a long line of failed socialist dictators who, because of their crippling of their country’s economy, have rendered unable to cope with natural disasters. But with the convenient excuse of AGW to pin the blame on, and by extension the richer nations, shifting the blame is a natural.

Any bets as to whether this will be a topic in Cancun?

  • Just felt it worth mentioning that ANOTHER very quiet hurricane season has passed, without not even a single Katrina or stronger MEGASTORM that we expected to be the norm thanks to GW.

And not even a mention of that anywhere.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?

Hah.  It’ll be front-and-center in the next IPCC report, right along with those melting glaciers in Switzerland and the Himalayas.  And the polar bears.  Don’t forget about the cute, cuddly polar bears who will die because they can’t swim because of all the disappearing arctic ice arctic ice that is fundmentally different than it has ever been in history even though it didn’t completely disappear like incompetents, con artists, frauds, and hucksters climate scientists told us that it would.

Hey, Hugo…come and MAKE us responsible.  Come on…

  • Just when they thought there was going to be a big payday … now they can’t even print the money fast enough

    • For all his talk of job creation, President Obama has targeted many occupations for extinction. Using unelected bureaucrats to implement a host of job-killing measures, his administration is generating piles of pink slips

  • Ok, Hugo, for starters let’s stop importing oil from Venezuela.  Oops, there goes almost your entire economy!

  • I’ve lived in Venezuela for the last 18 years. There was a time when Hugo had a modicum of credibility but those days are gone. He makes these kind of asinine statements for internal consumption of the ignorant masses. He also depends on the outside world’s ignorance of how things really are in Venezuela. Although the country has a population of only 29+ million, 80% of the people live on top of each other in the principle cities. Caracas has to be one of the worlds largest parking lots. the number 19880 gas hogs is unbelievable. The smoke stack industries dump their pollutants into the air and the water with very little environmental concern. But apart from all of this, Marxist always have to have their capitalist enemies to blame for all their country’s woes. Hugo’s only friends are those he can buy with his oil checkbook. But behind his back they laugh at him. So I wouldn’t worry too much about what Hugo says.

Rather like Smolensk in the old Soviet Union. The left/environuts still can bring themselves to retract their statements that capitalism was the polluter and socialism was environ-friendly.
Of course, that came on the heels of capitalism creating poverty and socialism creating prosperity (aka, the “Workers Paradise”).
Before that, it was capitalism caused wars, just as the USSR and Nazis went at it, and before that….
