TSA screens people AFTER they get off train?

This allegedly happened at the “Savannah train station” (I assume that means Savannah GA), after passengers had come OFF the train on Feb. 13, 2011:

Here’s a description [sic] of what you’re seeing  from the person who uploaded the video:

The only bad thing on our trip was TSA was at the Savannah train station. There were about 14 agents pulling people inside the building and coralling everyone in a roped area AFTER you got OFF THE TRAIN! This made no sense!!! Poor family in front of us! 9 year old getting patted down and wanded. They groped our people too and were very unprofessional. I am all about security, but when have you ever been harassed and felt up getting OFF a plane? Shouldnt they be doing that getting ON??? And they wonder why so many people are mad at them.

Make sense to you?

  • “Make sense to you?”

    • … but .. but do the trains run backward ?

    • Now I get it … this way they won’t hold the the train schedule if the inspections run late.

    • It could be as simple as they were looking for the Sharpie used to put the graffiti on the wall in the bathroom

  • Mad man that I am…I would have walked right past them.
I ain’t standing for this shit.

  • Why does this never happen to me?
Id refuse, force them to arrest me of let me leave. I allowed myself to be searched to enter the train, but i refuse to be searched when leaving. If they wont let me pass i will ask to be escorted to the exit which does not involve a search, otherwise wouldn’t they be holding me against my will in the station? They cant FORCE me to submit to a search without cause. If i refuse a search when getting ON i can leave the station, what do i do one i am past them?

    • They can arrest you and fine you for failing to follow the order of a law enforcement official.
      Yeah.  It s–ks.

    • You have to ask yourself, what are their options …
      1) let you pass
      2) arrest you
      3) put you back on the train ???

  • It could happen if those arriving disembark in the same location that others board.  But you would need to suspect that those disembarking were somehow compromised since they boarded.

  • One…of many thousands…of reasons the Obamic East German bullet trains will NEVER pry Americans out of their cars.
    Great marketing plan, TSA…!!!

  • the Obama budget calls for an unspecified new tax to raise $435 billion to pay for the new six-year, $556-billion infrastructure build-out

They have to convince the riders that once they get the tax and the build-out that they will be able to search the passengers before they get on.  Or as they say .. “temporary inconvenience, permanent improvement”

  • “Make sense to you?”

No, but then this is government, so we have that going for us.

  • Sounds like we need a new verse or two to the song “Charlie on the MTA”.
“Let me tell you of the story of a man named Charlie
on that tragic and fateful day
he put 10 cents in his pocket kissed his wife and family
went to ride on the AMTRAK train
    Did he ever return
    no he never returned
and his fate is still unlearned(gone to Gitmo?)
    He may ride forever….”

    • So…if they find you carrying – a pocket knife?  a box cutter?  scissors or nail clippers, they can?  what?  Prevent you from carrying them out into the public area?
Oh ywah, I’m with Rags – you’re done dudes, I don’t have to submit to this.  4th Amendment and this is UNREASONABLE on it’s very face.

  • Actually I figured it out.

The lines at the TSA screening point were too long when boarding the train.

Therefore, in an effort to ease the Pre Boarding screening backlog the TSA implemented Post Boarding Screening.

    • I think they should be able to preempt people who MIGHT be going to get on trains by searching them now, at random, on the street outside the train station.

      • According to one Federal judge, if you THINK about getting on a train…or NOT getting on a train…TSA should screen you.
        We are past 1984

        • That was exactly the precedent I was thinking of.  I mean, if the Commerce Clause can be used to legally penalize me for thinking about NOT buying health insurance, then certainly the 4th Amendment can now be interpreted to consider random stops on the streets for screening as not ‘unreasonable’.  After all, I might be considering flying, or taking a train, or even driving my car on a government financed highway.

  • OK, OFF TOPIC, but THAT is just too much…
Obama just said U.S. aircraft would evacuate EGYPTIANS from Libya…!!!
Days ago, our State Dept. could not count the number of Americans remaining in Libya, much less get them out.

  • Imagine you are a bureaucrat at the TSA.You are looking for a way to expand your empire. Searching for trains would add some, but consider if we could also check people arriving! Double the volume! More scanners, wands, staff, uniforms!

  • I think I understand. They are protecting the Station, not the train.

  • My mother, a senior citizen, was kicked off an Amtrack train in Northern California because she did not have an i.d. on her.
