When something hits the comics page…

When something is used as fodder for the Sunday comics, that probably means the typical reader is already aware of it.

Keep that in mind as you read today’s Dilbert:

  • Talking with a Mormon acquaintance about storing food (since they are encouraged to keep a year’s supply).  I asked if he had any guns and he was appalled that I even considered owning a gun.  I wondered how he was going to hide the fact that he and his family aren’t starving from all his neighbors (assuming he ever really needs that stored food).  Of course, the same thing goes for those of us with savings.  How are we going to keep the government from stealing it all when they really, really need it (three, two, one……)?  I don’t have any ideas about that either.

    • I would think most mormons would be fine with guns.

      • Here in the ast Phoenix ‘burbs they sure are.
They are “encouraged” to own guns, they are REQUIRED to keep food stores.
The stores are coordinated at the ward(parish) level: one family has 50 lbs of corn flakes, another family has 100 lbs of rice, another has 100 lbs of beans, another has 50 lbs of powered milk. (Notice the emphasis on kids foods). Canning and preserving fruits and veggies is really big and the women have “canning parties”. Also quilting parties. The food is rotated periodically.
Most homes in Mormon predominant areas have large pantries or other rooms for storage.
The food would be made available to all in the event of a natural disaster, but shared mainly with other Mormons in the event of a “man-made” disaster.
Mormon young males are probably the biggest participants in Boy Scout programs but far, as a percentage of their group.
Every year, Mormon families must turn over a percentage of their stock portfolio to the Mormon Temple in their area. That’s how, amongst others, the Mormons got a sizable interest in such companies as PepsiCo. Prior to that control, c affine was forbidden to them, but now it’s allowed if it’s in the form of Pepsi products.

  • Today the flash mobs are just stealing junk, when society breaks down further they will target supermarkets and strip the shelves bare, police will protect the supermarkets after a couple of incidents and then the mobs will target gated communities, this is what obamas community organizing is all about.

    • when society breaks down further they will target supermarkets and strip the shelves bare, police will protect the supermarkets after a couple of incidents

…if the police aren’t looting the supermarkets themselves.
They have families to feed, too, and their cushy pensions aren’t going to be worth squat if their family starves.

  • I always said - stock up on automatic weapons and ammunition  :)
