Al Gore plans 24 hour assault on climate skeptics

Well this should be fun:

"24 Hours of Reality" will broadcast a presentation by Al Gore every hour for 24 hours across 24 different time zones from Wednesday to Thursday, with the aim of convincing climate change deniers and driving action against global warming among households, schools and businesses.

The campaign also asks people to hand over control of their social networking accounts on Facebook and Twitter to it for 24 hours to deliver Gore’s message.

"There will be 200 new slides arguing the connection between more extreme weather and climate change," Trewin Restorick, chief executive of the event’s UK partner Global Action Plan, told Reuters on Monday.

"There will be a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from."

Remember, much of Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” has been shown to be nonsense.  So this is sort of a make or break moment for Gore, I suppose.  He’s either cleaned up his act and is prepared, with his new slide show, to actually present scientific fact and argument, or we’re going to be treated to “An Inconvenient Truth 2.0”.

I’m guessing 2.0.

Concern about climate change in the United States, the world’s second biggest emitter, has fallen steadily to 48 percent in 2011, from 62 percent in 2007, an opinion poll showed in August.

Obviously the economy figures into some of those numbers (by displacement if nothing else – whatever we have to do to get it rolling again and that puts such concerns in a lower priority), but this is a trend that began before the economic collapse.  It should be interesting to see his “double down” presentation and the argument and debate that follows.

The exposition and conclusion he presents concerning funding should also be interesting.   Sounds more like a political assault than a scientific one.  We’ll see.

  • So Gore’s transition to a televangelist is complete, then?

  • So, we’re cutting into Chakra Man’s profits and he needs to throw some new scare into us eh?

Al Gore latest Climate Change rant = Barack Obama latest jobs speech.

In either case, what makes you think anything has really changed?

  • The Gorical is doubling down on stupid because every last of his eggs are in that AGW basket. Even if human activity had the tinniest influence on weather, would you really allow the likes of Gore to dictate the daily activity of your lives? What you eat, what you drive, where you live, or are allowed to buy, or wear, what temperature you can set your thermostat to? How much power you can use, what light bulbs you can buy: the list of government meddling in our lives would be endless. Think of the caliber of people that will be dictating how you live? The very jerk who fallaciously claims to have invented the Internet would have a direct affect on every energy-based action you are involved with on the most fundamental level. Look at the winners the Government has picked so far… they’ve all been losers, they get picked for political favoritism, not economically sound reasons. Would you think this will be any different? Has the government run a single department without massive waste, inefficiency & corruption?

It’s pretty obvious who is getting rich.

The College Democrats will be appealing for almost $145,000 to pay Al Gore to speak on campus. That is equal to the amount used to fund the eight main speakers last year, including news anchor Soledad O’Brien, PostSecret founder Frank Warren, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales and journalist Nicholas Kristof.
If passed, it would be SU Treasury’s first time allocating more than $100,000 toward one speaker. Last year, it rejected the College Democrats’ appeal for $127,000 to bring TV comedy personality Bill Maher to campus.

    • Sorry, the link

    • Paid for by the students, of course. And those same students will be complaining about the student loans necessary to pay for such frippery.

      • … but this is all education.
“There will be a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from.”
I guess this means Al Gore will be examining the “science of the ad hominem” and the “science of fund raising,” two sub-fields of political science.

        • Yeah, cause that Government and University funding it’s politically neutral.  And the people being funded, are also, politically neutral.

And Al, of course, is politically neutral.

What I want to know is how much freaking funding YOU guys are getting for denying!   Is Gore gonna detail that, because my checks have stopped, completely and I’m still doing my denying thing.   If there’s no money to be made in bein scientific and all, well I’m not going to play ball anymore, and I’ll change sides!  Warning, the checks better start back up soon, or else.

  • Wonder what the aggregate CARBON FOOTPRINT will be for this little propaganda campaign?

    • I caught some piece that said that Google was burning something like 500 million watts.  I can just imagine what Facebook burns.

  • Al Gore, I mocked you once as the re-incarnation of the Xhosa Prophetess Nongqawuse, but now you’re going to go on TV and convert people to your religion for real? Are you serial?

    http://aconservativeteacher.blogspot.com/2009/07/is-al-gore-re-incarnation-of-xhosa.html

  • Man-bear-pig is real you guys, i’m super serial, i just want everyone to believe me and no one wants to so i have to spend all the grant mon…errr my money to tell them! Why won’t anyone believe me! I’m super super serial!

  • Call it “Triumph of the Al”.

    The problems are that:

    1.  Algore’s counting not so much on people watching his tripe, but on MiniTru reporting on what a splash it is.  It’s a lot like Bad Luck Barry: report on the SPEECH, not the non-existent legislation;

    2.  MiniTru will not challenge his “facts”.  It’s a damned “convenient” thing when he can make any claim he likes without worrying that MiniTru will make any effort to look into them and call “bullsh*t!” if they aren’t true.

This is one time when people’s short attention span is a good thing: it’s hard to keep people scared about something that will (allegedly) happen years from now, especially when they’ve got more current worries like finding work.  It would be of some interest to know why the numbers have fallen: is it that people have caught on to the con, or simply stopped worrying about it as something beyond their control?

And notice the assertion by implication about CO2: though it’s far from proved that CO2 drives “climate change” (and certainly not proved that it does to the extent that the gorebots claim), it is asserted here as a sort of fact.  Lovely, lovely propaganda.

  • Handing over control of facebook and twitter accounts? What could *possibly* go wrong there?
Anyway Al, the rugby world cup is on now so no one in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Japan, the Pacific Islands, Italy, Argentina or others will be paying the slightest bit of attention to a washed-up preacher with 200+ slides. Maybe some unwashed hippies will be tuned into the GoreBoreAthon, but that’s pretty much preaching to the choir.

    • No kidding, i think i might have to institute a ban on friends who start spamming me with Al Gore spam.

      • Is there any way for Facebook to autoreply to any mention of Gore with this reminder that Gore beleives in controlling global warming so much that he uses TWENTY times the power of the national average?

  • Oh … good Lord … Al Gore tries to channel “No Pressure” with this and this.

  • Apparently one of the underlying convictions of a true Progressive is:  if you say them loudly enough, often enough, with fierce and urgent sincerity, YOUR WORDS *WILL* SHAPE REALITY.
I don’t know on what time-scale this is supposed to occur, though.  I’ve personally been announcing, declaring, and asserting (for some 25 years now) that “I’m gonna win the lottery”. . .   still waiting for that one to manifest itself.   (Sigh.)

  • What should I do?  I don’t have a Facebook or Twitter thingy.  If Mr. Gore is on any TV commercials I would be willing to turn off my TV set for the duration of his commercial.  That would save some energy.
I think I’m going to use the time to burn some leaves and trash.  That won’t clean up the environment but would clean up my yard.
