Happy May Day (Update)

In my youth I remember the massive May Day events staged in various communist countries and by fellow travelers in the West.

Now, it is reduced to this (not that I mind):

The irony, as you watch this bedraggled group (reported to be a whopping 200 to 300) is the one guy claiming to be the 99% even while the real 99% struggle to get past them and go to work doing productive things and not asking others for a hand-out they claim they deserve for no other reason than they exist.

And you can tell … they’re making a huge impression.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco, the usual suspects just couldn’t wait for the clock to toll midnight:

Broken glass littered several streets in San Francisco’s Mission District after protesters vandalized cars and buildings Monday night, including a police station.

The vandals were in a group that marched from Dolores Park shortly after 9 p.m., following a rally in advance of Tuesday’s planned Occupy general strike, police said. Traveling down 18th Street and onto Valencia Street, the black-clad, masked protesters smashed windows with crowbars and signs, threw paint on buildings and spray-painted anarchy symbols on the hoods of parked cars.

"All I heard was, ‘bang, bang, bang,’ and some dude had the valet sign, trying to break our window," said Adam Koskoff, manager of the Locanda restaurant on Valencia. "I didn’t even see the crowd, and I ran outside and got egged."

The vandals threw paint and eggs and smashed windows at more than 30 businesses, including Tartine Bakery at 18th and Guerrero streets and clothing store Weston Wear on Valencia.

Brilliant.  Certain to win them friends and influence among those one supposes they want to impress with their message, whatever in the heck that is.  Actions like this are sure to win converts.  And political backing, yessir.

  • Well I guess this leaves no illusions about who they really are. The aren’t just upset about crony capitalism. They’re communists and in reality they believe in the extremest form of crony capitilism.

I’m not shocked in the least. I know their initial sales pitch was to try to recruit people upset with the cronyism. On some forum there’s a guy that wants to have Ron Paul’s babies that thinks these guys are the greatest. Time to throw it in his face.

Anyway, looks like the behind the scene orchestraters are no longer the A-team, but rather the B-team when it comes to managing OWS perception in the public. If that’s true, I’d assume the money this year will be much less as well.

  • “…protesters vandalized cars and buildings…”——————If they were actually protestors shouldn’t that be ‘protestised’ instead of ‘vandalized’? Vandal is still a perfectly good, and appropriate, word. Why not use it?

  • Totally…TOTALLY…without the least self-awareness or sense of irony. Erp…??? Do they print a year-book at Moose U…? Some of your students in these pics…???

    • @Ragspierre I remember fondly when he told us Occupy was going to be as powerful as the Tea Party.

      • @looker Maybe he was referring to explosive potential…???

        • @Ragspierre Which still turned out to be zero. Too funny. =)

        • @tkc882 But they still get a gold star. They TRIED hard. All you need in the Collective…

        • @Ragspierre Well…FROM each according to their ABILITY…

  • Have a thoughtful Victims Of Communism Day.

    • @Ragspierre Missiles, tanks, troops arrayed across Red Square, Copied B-29’s flying overhead, pictures of Joe and Vlad and Nikita, good times, good times.

  • Now it appears that the FBI has scooped up some of the Occuturd alumni for plotting to take down a bridge in Cleveland.
Where’s Erb, maybe he can give us the link about the Tea Party alums who the FBI rounded up….no? Never happened? But but but…..another watch and learn moment.

    • @looker But now you have fallen for their plot.

      • @Neo_ soon to be followed i imagine by #OccupyElktonCell and #ElktonBFF

  • They’re here in LA, too. Since it’s the 20th anniversary of the King Riots + the annual Day of Whinging for the reconquista crowd, too, it looks like it’s going to be a mishmash of the usual leftist suspects all carrying on. Several streets are already closed, which is going to make the normally horrible traffic an Elder Gods level nightmare sure to win them support and converts. Not.

  • Today is not “May Day”. It is “Victims of Communism Day”.

  • For a history of May Day, see the following site:
If you remember the communist May Day celebrations, you must also remember the first US celebration at the Haymarket in Chicago.
As far as its connection to labor goes, if you like only working eight hours per day—instead of 12-15 hours, if you do not choose to—or having weekends off—if you choose—or having child labor laws—permitting children to go to school instead of working—or allowing you to include your off-spring under 26 years old to be included on your health insurance policy—like Senator Scott Brown does—THANK A LIBERAL.

    • Another LYING Collectivist cliche’.  The ONLY reason we have the life-style we do today is MARKET ECONOMICS, which made that possible.  You could pass all the laws you want, and they would be vacant without the WEALTH that MARKET CAPITALISM provides.
      Seriously, what a moron.

    • “you must also remember the first US celebration at the Haymarket in Chicago”  Again, a comprehension problem, or are you being witty – it was a strike, someone tossed a bomb, the cops shot the place up.  Celebration?
“THANK A LIBERAL” – why?  Modern liberals had nothing to do with everything you listed except perhaps for the 26 year old ‘children’ being insured item. That’s debatable too, were you still a ‘child’ when you were 26?  I was married and had 2 kids by then….moving right along…..  Hey, you’re a democrat, should I thank you for dragging people out of West Africa in chains to Barbados and the Caribbean islands and breaking them in as slaves and then importing them to the US to be farm machines?

      • Anybody with insurance…or who wanted insurance…on their kid of 26 could get it.  At some price, they could get it.
The market provided that.  As usual.

        • Seriously, makes me wonder how much older our ‘children’ will become before they’re adults.  But he see’s this continued tendency to infantilize our children as a sign of progress.  They’re ‘adults’ and can marry, vote, own property and pay into MY Social Security lockbox Ponzi scheme but they’re still our precious tykes who need our insurance coverage. It’s the sign of a clingy dependent nanny society and it’s sick.
Perhaps since they’re still ‘children’ who need our protection we should consider repealing their right to vote.
