Obama/Biden campaign hit bottom with wedding gift appeal

Of all my years watching politics, this has got to be one of the most pathetic, ham-fisted, self-centered and stupid attempts to raise campaign cash I’ve ever seen.  From the Obama/Biden campaign website:

Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up?

Let your friends know how important this election is to you—register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift. It’s a great way to support the President on your big day. Plus, it’s a gift that we can all appreciate—and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl.

Setting up and sharing your registry page is easy—so get started today.

Your special day? Screw your special day, make sure the president has the cash necessary for his special day.

Talk about a tin ear.

Does anyone staff these ideas?  And if they do, did they really end up thinking this would be a good idea (read the comments on this beauty)?

And finally, does anyone get just a whiff of desperation in an appeal like this?

  • I watch these things with a mixture of impressions…not the least of which is revulsion.  But disbelief and mirth are in there, too.  I doubt very, very much I would want to know someone who was actually so warped that this appeal worked on them.  I certainly don’t want a person as president who would allow it to be made.  Oh, yah…embarrassment is another impression right up at the top.

  • I’ve been seeing projections of the Republican “Super-PAC” money that would make anybody wonder .. $300 million, $400 million then $500 million … while the Democrats claim something around $100 million to $150 million.
This is either the “greatest political faint” in history or there are going to be commercials galore bashing “The Won.”
Back on point, I caught this yesterday.  I thought back to my wedding and said to myself .. OMG, they have no shame … but I already knew that.  You only have so many days in your life that are big enough to rate a gift from your family and friends … and the Obama want you to share it with them .. the full wallet-ectomy.
It really must be frustrating to come to the realization that … it’s not all about the them [the Obamas].
I have no empathy .. and no dollars .. for them.

  • I think he just topped that one. The secret service rounded up all the knives and forks from a luncheon friday.
“It’s very important that you use your utensils as soon as possible,” National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials board member Raquel Regalado told about 1000 delegates at the group’s annual conference.

    • So you say that they are stealing the silverware ?

      • I think since the Latinos are staying now, they’re not allowed sharp objects. Which should rule out the potato peeler and Pocket Fisherman too.

    • I’m thinking that if that had happened at an event with Romney speaking, the DNC, the far left & the MSM would be making the case that Republicans are racist.

  • I missed it.  We all missed it.
The Obamas need stuff for their retirement home.
i was thinking maybe a potato peeler would be nice.

  • A gravy boat would be a better Pres. than Barack. They’re both empty vessels…..

  • In designing user interfaces, I tell developers that the key ability they need is the ability to look at the world through another person’s eyes. That’s just as important in teaching, politics, sales, etc.
Obama can’t do that, and it’s pretty clear most of his whiz kid staff can’t do it either.
They think everyone else should think the same way they do and have the same priorities. For them, nothing is more important than politics and power. So naturally anything of a personal nature should be subordinated to politics.
I spent a fair amount of time thinking and reading about politics, but I realize I’m an outlier. Most others prefer a “politics-free zone” in their lives. Obama seems completely clueless about that. The more people other than committed leftists see that, the more their enthusiasm for Obama tends to fade.

  • It smacks of desperation, I think that’s what a lot of people will feel that way.
    I like it.
Next week, I expect they’ll consider a yard sale of all that useless old stuff in the White House, till maybe someone reminds them it’s not theirs of course (or not).

    • Even better … hold an Obama yard sale. Get rid of all that old, useless junk and send the proceeds to the One!

Of course I’m more in tune with getting rid of the One, so I likely wouldn’t participate, old stick-in-the-mud that I am.

    • A yard sale is what they had in mind when they took up the silverware from the Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
Obama:  “Hey Amigo, I will give you citizenship but we don’t trust you with the knives & forks”.

  • This is so outrageous that I saw a friend’s liberal friend claim it was debunked on Snopes.  Even Democrats are embarrassed.  Well, some are.

  • Fondue sets. Send him millions of them.

    • Donate your used car to the President!  Barack needs cash!  Now you can really make a difference to the environment twice!  Get your old clunker off the road and help Barack defeat the Republican menace that wants to buy it’s way into our White House with foreign dollars, the Republicans that want to gut the EPA and fill the sky with smoke, and the water with a gooey sludge from their non-green factories.  Your donation will be completely tax deductible (so long as Barack runs the White House).  You can benefit a third way through tax credits for that new electric vehicle, again, so long as Barack is in charge.  Won’t you take a moment today to donate your car?  Salvage for our Savior will pick up your vehicle, no matter what condition it’s in, so, call, now.

  • Can we just send them the table settings, wrappings, and left over finger sandwiches from the reception?

  • Am I guessing Latino’s think the notion they can’t be trusted with sharp silverware around the Presidential body is a compliment?
Maybe they donated them to the campaign.  Seriously were they afraid someone was going to prod the President with a fork to see if he was done yet?
