Romney’s reaction to the Libya debacle is still not the story

The question is, will the real story ever be told by the media of this country:

After the American media grabbed and held the pro-Obama headlines against Romney’s comments and took Obama’s “Romney shoots first and aims second” quote to iconic proportions, the rest of the world is reporting that the Obama administration knew about the planned-attack on the Benghazi, Libya Embassy where four Americans, including United States Ambassador Christopher Steven was murdered.

That strong allegation needs to be “the story”, not the political-trouncing of Mitt Romney, a man who has nothing to do with the White House, the U.S. Embassy, or the deadly and non-deadly attacks on our United States Embassy’s around the world. “The story” obviously involves the White House and the president within – Barack Obama – not the Massachusetts challenger.

The reporters and bloggers who have made Mitt Romney the story – instead of the attacked-United States Embassy, the innocent Americans who were attacked, and the White House with its president in abstention as he continually treks the campaign trail regardless of the duties left behind in Washington, D.C. – are guilty of letting another American tragedy remain buried.

To me this is the stunner of the month.  It isn’t about what Romney said, it’s about an administration who doesn’t do the elemental things necessary to protect it’s own embassy staff in Libya, even when they knew something was brewing (Word on the street and the anniversary of 9/11?  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist, do you?).

And yet somehow this has all become about Romney?  Meanwhile the administration has said they’re not going to talk about Libya anymore and the media say, “okay”.

You know, it wasn’t too long ago that dissent was the highest form of patriotism, remember?

Yeah, not so much.

But if you want the real story, this is where the press ought to be digging:

Reports from a number of knowledgeable sources are being widely-circulated regarding the United States State Department’s having received knowledge of the attack in Benghazi as early as September 9 – two days before the four Americans were killed. That’s “the story”. There were also similar reports that the attack in Cairo was revealed prior to its occurrence. The knowledgeable sources report that no warning was given to persons in the U.S. Embassies in Cairo or Benghazi after the State Department was warned. In Libya, there were approximately 30 people in the main consulate building who could have been warned but weren’t.

Additionally, Wanis el-Sharef, Libya’s deputy interior minister, told the Associated Press that the heavily armed militants “used” a protest of an anti-Islam film as a “cover” in their deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy while screaming “God is great!”

But instead, page 1 is what Romney said.  Meanwhile, the compliant media accepts the “we’re done talking about it” from the most transparant administration ever.

  • Had a young guy in the office, definitely a bit on the naive side, literally lives with his grandmother, come up yesterday and say he just read about the embassy attack knowledge in a British newspaper on line, and was amazed that the American media wasn’t talking about it.  What do you say to that when you’re tired of fighting this fight?  I told him that’s the way it is now, and if he wants to know what’s going on here, he can read foreign papers to find out, otherwise he’s going to hear about Romney’s Taxes, Ryan’s athletic ‘lies’ and the latest Khardashian baby (Khardashians….weren’t they in Star Trek?).

    • I commented the other day that you had to go to the Guardian (UK), Telegraph (UK) or the Independent (UK) to get any news about what happened with the attack in Libya.   US Today snuck out a story or two, but the NYTimes, LATimes and WaPo were MIA.

  • Meanwhile, the compliant media accepts…

Wrong word, McQ.  The right word is COMPLICIT.  The Mushroom Media in the U.S. has become an active propaganda wing of the Collective.  There is no “bias”.  They are openly (with a very few exceptions) completely partisan.
And I believe the story will bleed out, drop by drop, via the foreign press and new media…including video and photos taken by the killers.
We are being BADLY lied to…on a number of levels…and nobody in our press seems to give a rat’s ass.  Which tells you all you need to know about the press and Obama.

  • If George Zimmerman had only known that he should have been a US ambassador, then the press would have let him shoot up an entire bar and there would be no press.

  • The question is, will the real story ever be told by the media of this country:

    >>>> Yes…….years from now, When it’s nice and safe and nobody is paying attention. In the meantime, its another fake Romney “gaffe” that’s getting the attention. One thing though….he’s absolutely correct.

    • What an interesting world, yes?  Where simple statements of fact are treated as “gaffes” by our media, and where blatant lies are allowed to pass by without comment.
If the end of our national experiment is in sight, some of those most guilty for it will be the Mushroom Media.

      • Where is the Romney campaign on this debacle? So after one statement on their part that resulted in media hype, they decide to retreat back into their shell?  The campaign should realize by now that if Romney says “good afternoon”, there will be an instant negative response from the Obama campaign and the media.  So what!  Do the work the media won’t.  Talk about the non-response to the 48-hour warnings, the lack of security, the Libyan government statement that it was a coordinated and planned attack, that the film is understood by rational individuals as only a pretext for violence, that it occurred on 9/11, all of which resulted in the deaths of American citizens.  Issue statements every day.  Any media response to counter these reports and the Romney campaign statements will allow the facts to slowly emerge into a national realization that we are constantly lied to by this incompetent administration and their media sycophants.
After the McCain campaign disaster 4 years ago, I hoped for some level of passion, aggressiveness and competence by the Romney campaign.  I feel like a fool.

    • There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
I can see why Democrats are so offended. How dare Mitt Romney say they’re dependent on the government? Only Democrats get to say they’re dependent on the government!
      Has everybody already forgotten “Julia”?

  • First they came for the rich,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t rich.

Then they came for the racists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t think I was a racist.

Then they came for the 1st Amendment,
and I didn’t speak out because I didn’t need 1st Amendment that day.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left who could speak for me.

  • Well, they dusted off their October Suprise early and showed a clip of Romney talking negatively about Obama supports as unreachable and why.  Of course the spin was to imply Romney was disparagingly broad brushing anyone who doesn’t pay income tax.  Instead of the reverse of why Obama supporters are obama supporters which includes people who have nothing to lose from increased taxes in their perception.

The media wants to shut this issue down and it seems Mitt is the only person forcing them to stay close to it.

    • Romney also comitted the sin of saying that the Palestinians really don’t want peace, and a two state plan won’t work. That’s news, Obama’s bungling of the whole ME is something to ignore, and blame on Romney if he wins the election and Obama’s policies continue to melt down.

This has worked out well for the left in the past. They gave Clinton credit for Newt’s (almost) balanced budgets, and blamed Bush for the financial crisis caused by Clinton’s housing bubble.

Even the Iraq war was in large part Clinton’s fault. Saddam refused to comply with the UN because he expected Bush to show the same weak knee leadership as Clinton.

      • Which is why China today is telling their army to prep for war with Japan.  They’re counting on Barry the Brave apologizing for the US signing a defense treaty with Japan over those islands back in the 60’s.

  • We English speakers borrow (or steal) useful words from other languages. Sadly, today’s word is a Russian word; Samizdat.

  • Here’s an example of unbiased media in action, I’m sure Cap will agree.  I suppose there’s an explanation for the facts straying to opinionated facts that demonstrates no bias, and being as biased as I am, I can’t SEE the solid news reporting reason for altering the original story to create the current story.

I’m just against big government ya know.

  • No.  I’ve been dissenting since 1969, and I don’t remember when it was “the highest form of patriotism”.  (Maybe government sanctioned dissent—the value of which is questionable, depending upon the government.)
Please include your sources regarding Obama’s foreknowledge of the Libyan issue, so all may evaluate it.

    • Oh, better…show your research to learn SOME flucking THING about what State had by way of forewarning, moron.

    • Well according to Hillary Clinton, it was a mere 4 years ago.

    • And your source saying it wasn’t expected came from….Obama?
That impresses you?  That on the 11th anniversary of September 11th, 2001 (September 11th, 2012) a group of radicals in an Islamic country attacking American interests in a confused and mucked up Islamic country like Libya came as a big surprise?   That it was appropriate NOT to have armed men, let alone armed AMERICANS anywhere near the diplomatic compound?  That the State Department (now, after denying it for 4 days) admits it hired a bunch of unarmed Brits to run the security?
“What’s all this then! Is that a rocket propelled grenade launcher?  That there is an offensive weapon my lad!  Here, just hand it over and shove off home or I’ll do you up a treat mate!”
You’re impressed by that forward thinking kind of preparation?   You’re impressed by the official report that the intelligence apparatus of the United States government was effectively caught not just flat footed, but with their trousers down around their wingtips?
Wow, you don’t REALLY expect much from this big government you want taking care of all of us do you Tad.
