ObamaCare application 15 pages long

I have to agree with Thomas Sowell who opined early on, and I’m paraphrasing here, “who would believe that adding a layer of government bureaucracy to healthcare would somehow make it less costly?”

Exactly.  Or easier to get, for that matter?

Applying for benefits under President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul could be as daunting as doing your taxes.

The government’s draft application is now on the Internet.

It runs 15 pages for a three-person family. The online version has 21 steps, some with added questions.

At least three major federal agencies, including the IRS, will scrutinize your application.

That’s just the first part of the process, which lets you know if you qualify for financial help.

You’d still have to pick a health plan.

Wonderful stuff, no?  And nice to know the IRS is in on it from the beginning … because, you know, they have a lot to do with health care.

Some fear that consumers will be overwhelmed and give up.

Ya think?

Administration officials say the application form is being refined.

Of course it is.  And it will be forever.  Success?  Reducing it to 10 pages I’m sure.

Still, the idea that picking a health insurance plan could be as simple as shopping on the Internet is starting to look like wishful thinking.

Heh … only an absolute dope would have believed that in the first place, with government involved.

But we told you all of this before the law was passed, didn’t we?

  • “And nice to know the IRS is in on it from the beginning … because, you know, they have a lot to do with health care.”
    Well, the IRS does NOW.
Makes you wonder, how often will they be telling people their health care plan doesn’t qualify, and they want their penalty payola (not that that will cover the costs of this train wreck).

  • Civil disobedience.  Don’t comply.
    Zero paperwork!

    • what about my free Obama-Phone, how am I gonna get my free Obama-phone!!???
Someone needs to fill out the papers for me…..
this sounds like a job for all the tools of the community organizing administration, tell me that’s NOT what’s going to happen here.

      • I think that is a dead-bang certainty.  A job security program for jaded, condescending HS grads…who also went to community college in Maine.

        • Now now, it’s fairly certain the stooge from UofM is reading here, but at least he’s not commenting, HERE.
and he didn’t go to school in Maine, he just misinforms people there now for a living.

    • I foresee a senate/house bill to create or subsidize organizations to help ‘the poor’ fill out these forms.

  • New Pope on the bridge.

  • When I went to college, I considered going into Army ROTC.
On the last day before it was due, I got out the application and started to fill it out.
The first page was a 5-part NCR paper form for my name.  The second page was a 5-part NCR paper form for my street address.  The third page was a 5-part NCR paper form for my town.
I have no idea what was on the 4th page because there and then it struck me that I wasn’t going to be compatible with any organization that was this … inefficient.  I cherish brevity .. and this was anything but brief.
I don’t think ObamaCare is compatible with my demeanor, either.

    • But the Military gave you a choice….
      guess what….

      • You have choices.
        Opt out.

        • I see the states can, we have that same option?  Not that I’ve seen.
I’ve seen sites that put you on a list, but…looks like data collection/mining to me, and not something that will allow you to tell the IRS to FOAD.
If you mean don’t fill out the paper work, that’s different, but we both know that’s not an actual opt out, that’s a gamble to see if we can overwhelm them with disobedience.

          • …that’s a gamble to see if we can overwhelm them with disobedience

It is a certainty, if popularly supported by enough people.
It is one of the few laws of power that cuts in favor of the people.

          • I like the idea…
the flip side is it’s what keeps a mob of 50 unarmed but angry people from swarming 1 guy armed with a 6 shot pistol, and that’s pretty much what they’re counting on.

          • …misunderstanding, you know….that does tend to tie up the agency while those ‘misunderstandings’ are rectified doesn’t it.
            Sort of Cloward-Pivan isn’t it.

  • Voter Fraud has it consequences.
We only own what we are willing to tolerate.

The Boston Glub is calling for a Mass. “waiver” from ObamaCare.
Ted Cruz is calling for repeal.

    • Oh but Masswatuchetts OUGHT to be exempt!   After all, they’re….liberal….and special…..and smarter….I mean…Teddy, Barney, Tip, and now that famous Native American Princess Makes Things Up Warren.
No reason their Congresscritters and Senators shouldn’t agree to something to enslave the rest of the country and then have THEM be subject to that law!  No no no.    Massachusetts has ALWAYS been special.

  • A year from now is going to see a lot of people expecting free or cheaper insurance go “wha’ happened?”
The democrats will blame the republicans
The republicans will promptly agree with them.
