Sean Smith’s mother doesn’t think his death is phony … nor the scandal surrounding it

[Guest posting at Hot Air today:]

In its usual inept and ham-fisted way,  the Obama administration has chosen to address the scandals surrounding it by waving them away as “phony” – conspiracies dreamed up and pursued by political enemies.  The president recently did that in his long-winded, laborious and incredibly boring re-hash of his failed economic policies.   The “phony” conspiracies are “distractions” from the “real problem”, a problem he has yet to address satisfactorily during his term in office.

The “phony” scandals include Benghazi, the IRS targeting of political groups on the right and others.  All were initially acknowledged by the administration and the president as serious breaches of public trust.  They’ve since, however, transformed into conspiracies generated by their enemies.

But there’s one voice asking what was “phony” about her son’t death in Benghazi?

Patricia Smith, mother of Sean Smith, who was slain in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack, lashed out on “Your World” on the Fox News Channel about that terminology.

President Obama has never revealed what, if anything, he was doing while workers at the Benghazi embassy were urgently requesting support, nor has the administration explained why no forces were sent to protect the embassy. The administration also denied the attack was a terrorist incident, claiming it was a spontaneous protest against an obscure YouTube trailer for a film that may or may not exist.

To make matters worse, she was essentially lied to while standing on the ramp watching the body of her son being offloaded from an AirForce transport plane in Dover, DE.  Speaking of Obama, she said:

“I don’t believe him anymore,” Smith said. “He’s wrong. My son is dead. How could that be phony?”

According to Smith, she has been given no answers about what happened that night. She said the administration told her she “didn’t need to know.”

“When I was there at the ceremony of the welcoming of the caskets, both Obama and Hillary and Biden and all of the other ones, all promised me they would get back to me to tell me what happened,” Smith said. “I begged them. Please, I must know what happened with my son. How come this happened? They all promised me they would get back to me. You know, not one of them, not one of them ever got back to me in any way shape or form — not by a letter, not by anything other than I got a memo stating that I didn’t need to know because I was not part of the immediate family.”

No answers, no contact and no closure.  She’s lost all faith in the credibility of those who promised her answers, and rightfully so.  And then, as if to deliver a final slap to her face, an arrogant president waves away the death of 4 men, including her son, as a “phony scandal”.

She, however, has no intention of leaving the questions the administration is avoiding like the plague unanswered:

Smith made one last plea to the Obama administration explaining her desire for answers.

“How can I tell you?” Smith added. “I mean, it is wrong. It is not phony. It is not fake. My son is dead, and why is he dead? All I am waiting for even to this day is just someone to get back to me and tell me what happened. Why did Hillary do as she did? Why was there no security there when there was supposed to be? Who was the general that called back the troops when they were going to help?”

Is it really too much to ask the President of the United States to be forthcoming about why you son died in the service of his country?  Apparently so.

Meanwhile in Kabul, the administration is on track to see what happened in Benghazi happen there as again very lax security has been cited by an internal investigation that the Washington Times obtained under the Freedom of Information Act as a risk to the safety of embassy personnel.

U.S. diplomatic facilities in Afghanistan have serious security lapses that pose “unnecessary risk to staff,” including poor emergency preparedness and inadequate protections that might allow classified materials to fall into the hands of attacking enemies, according to an internal report that raises fresh questions about the State Department’s commitment to safety in the aftermath of the Benghazi tragedy.

Another “phony” scandal in the making.

And, of course, the Obami are not talking about the “phony” mourning of the hundreds of Mexicans killed with Holder’s guns.
Or the “phony” suffering of the people who were wounded in Benghazi, and who we have yet to hear from, since they are being “disappeared” as part of the coverup by Pres. Bumps In The Road and Old Walleyes Clinton.
And where is the Obamic “phony” outrage from when he read in the papers (HA!) about the IRS scandalsssssss…???
As James Taranto noted, the whole Obama/Mushroom Media schtick has just gotten boring and stupid.

  • It must be wonderful to be a post-modernist president – to believe that words make reality. He can simply redefine away every problem he has.

    • Well, yeah, I mean, look at the great speeches he’s given.  Even he’ll tell you they’re great, and that’s not because he’s a narcissist ya know, that’s because the speeches WERE really great, just as the man, he’ll tell you.

When they call the role up yonder I hope the spirits of the previous occupants of the Oval Office take him out onto the heavenly quandrangle and run his skivees up the flag pole with him still in them.

    • “P-h-o-n-y s-c-a-n-d-a-l”

That means that the ultimate phony, Barack Obama, is in fact involved.

  • Mother = Not part of the immediate family?

I understand how Obama can see a father as not part of immediate families, he himself had how many fathers? and welfare encourages that shit…but mothers?
Oh, wait, maybe you have to be a grandmother to be part of the immediate family for the Obamas, after all, his mother pretty much dumped him off in Punahoa with granny, right?

But The Asshat of the United States has time to commiserate with the parents of dead Trayvon the thug wannabe and give two Presidential stick your nose where it doesn’t belong comments on THAT for the kid that would have looked like him, and could have been him 35 years ago.  Dead Navy Seal defending an embassy and an ambassador?  Not so much.

This guy….he’s such an ass.   Worst. President. EVER.

    • Well, looker, who would Pres. Chooms identify with more…???
      Trayvon?
      Or a SEAL?
Seriously, from all we know about the poor narcissistic bastard?

  • Remember when Cindy Sheehan had “absolute Moral Authority” because her son was killed?  The press had her on a pedestal.

    • Shaidle’s First Law: “It’s different when we do it”.
It is all you have to remember when trying to understand the Collective.

  • Cue Erb showing up parroting the Administrations’ “Phony Scandal” Mantra in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .

    • He’s been quiet for the last few days….busy playing house no doubt.

    • Nah, I stand corrected.  The idiot has a long tiresome ignorant post on racism with respect to white privilege and related to the Zimmerman case.

Which part of Zimmerman being white the same way Obama is white do these ignorant self serving bigoted racist doorknobs not get?
Which part of investigated by the FBI and no racial implications found do they not get?

Oh, that’s right, it’s a reality thing.  They have their own facts, and their own reality.

      • Let us know when he posts about how Uncle Ho really, really WAS all about Jeffersonian ideals and freedom and stuff…
The guy is just a lying Collectivist tool.

        • Should have had a Ho appreciation toast during the Ramadan dinner.

Pity the Aztecs are gone, he could tell us how swell they were too.

        • Meanwhile, back at scandal central – the asshat in chief continues to invent history for people like Erb.
“We’ve seen those results in generations of Muslim immigrants – farmers and factory workers, helping to lay the railroads and build our cities,” President Obama said at a dinner celebrating Ramadan on Thursday at the White House.”

Ah yes, I recall, praise Allah, the stories my family told of John Joseph O’Mahmood, my grandfather, Muslim foundry worker at the United Shoe Machinery Corp in Masswachusetts.   Because lord knows, there were so many Muslim immigrants back there in the good old days when we were a factory nation, and building railroads.   Generations of em!   That’s why we have so many mosques here built before 1960.

          • The boys in the White House basement better get on the Wiki entry for Islam in the US, it kinda, disagrees with the President’s version of history, and we can’t have that.

  • Remember when the left thought that the mother of a dead soldier had “absolute moral authority”?

    • The authority is absolute, but it was only on loan from the Left.  The Left has absolute moral authority — just watch how they act: modern-day Pharisees.

  • Lol!  There’s nothing there, no scandal.   Things like this happen when you’re a superpower involved in wars and covert operations.  I understand a grieving mother’s desire to lash out (and political opportunists to use that for their own fodder).  C’est yellow journalism.  But in reality the funny thing is the ODS sufferers lashing out at Obama with the same impotent rage that the BDS sufferers lashed out at Bush.  Ah, symmetry, right and left!  At least now you know how people on the left who hated Bush felt 2000-08!  But the scandals have disappeared because there is no scandal there.  Obama is almost certain to be remembered as one of the great Presidents, even if ODS blinds some of you from the obvious.  At this point scandal mongering Republicans wanting to shut down government for their own ideological extremist causes are becoming his best friend – and the most likely “ally” in getting the House back in Democratic hands in 2014.  You don’t see it, do you?  Partisanship and ideology blind people from reality.

    • Pres. Bumps In The Road and Old Walleyes stood on the tarmac at Andrews, flag-draped caskets as props, looked the survivors of their Benghazi debacle in the eyes, and swore to them to get those responsible.
They lied. THAT is ANOTHER scandal.
The only person they got was some poor boob who shot a video, not those who shot the dead of Benghazi.
And you, Errrrp, are a lying, bung-sucking Collectivist tool and a demonstrated coward.

    • Partisanship and ideology blind people from reality.

Damn.  Another Irony Meter blown all to hell.

      • The only thing to do is jump for the “shit-switch” when you see that moron’s icon.  Otherwise, the mil-spec irony meter is toast.

    • No, Obama will simply be remembered as “the Black president.”

      • >>>>>>>>>> THIS

        • He’ll get less ink in the history texts than George Washington Carver.

          • Rightfully.  Totally.  Carver was a brilliant doer of beneficial stuff.  Obama is a cheap, racist Chicago thug in an expensive suit.

    • Why is it that you use so many words, when you can simply say that you have nothing useful to add to the discussion?

    • To think that in the last Administration, they had a “scandal” over the President exercising his totally legitimate power to fire a handful of US attorneys.

    • Troll all you want.  I’ll just work to make sure the same things you minimize and write off are done to you….and your kids.
It’s all good. Keep running up the bill pal – sometimes the grocery clerks remember to collect.

    • Wow, a you sure opened a can of Erbass on us here huh!

Enjoy what you’re working so hard to achieve.  I’m sure your kids will.
Do you give a rat’s ass about their future, or were they just ‘look at me!’ marriage props along with the dogs/cats, the house, the white picket fence, and the Volvo.

    • You know, I’m not even going to get angry at you anymore, Erb. I just pity you. You’re a pathetic shell of a man with no independent thought, no moral compass, and no intellectual honesty. You are simply a shill for this administration who will parrot their talking points at every turn because they “think the right way.” You’re just an angry, weak, pitiful, evil little man who can’t even comprehend that supporting this administration means you turn your back on your own birthright as an American. You’re willing to live as a slave and give up your God given freedoms as long as “your side” stays in power. What a pathetic excuse for an American and a human being you are.

  • Things like this happen when you’re a superpower involved in wars and covert operations.

“Things” like WHAT?  Have a level one government representative go missing with no response except by some guys who defied orders to do what could be done?
Having your CIC go to bed so he could be all fresh to play with J-z and Bouncy at a fund-raiser the next day?
Have a diplomatic mission without the security detail your ambassador begged to have, in a region known to that that “al” guy running around?
Having an email round-robin where the Voice of State expressly calls for a coverup?
C’mon, Mr. History.  Cite to us how many “things” like that you can recall.

    • ‘Things’ like WHAT?

      WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?!!
There are no tanks in Baghdad, never!!

    • Some of Benghazi was mistakes and errors in judgement. Those I can understand.
The use of the video tape excuse was unconscionable, and frankly, a little baffling.
As if we really believed “Al Qaeda is dead = no more crazy Islamists?”
But its really unconscionable and shameful because the President, VP, and Secretary of State used that LIE of an excuse to those that were killed. Its on thing to spin it on TV – also unconscionable, but to the families? Sick.

  • What did I tell you?!?!?  Here comes Erb spouting the Obama mantra – Repeat after me – “There is no scandal!  There is no scandal!  There is no scandal!”   LOL!!!  Just because he says it, it has to be so.  it doesn’t matter that Obama himself promised to get to the bottom of the issue.  Promised an investigation.  What has become of that promise?  Nothing!!!  Yeah they did a rope-a-dope internal thingamajig that did not interview anybody and came up with nothing – just like they were told to do.  Where are the survivors?  Where are their statements?  Don’t you even want to know Erb?  Sorry, stupid question.

    • Never trust anybody over 30

    • What did I tell you?!?!?  Here comes Erb spouting the Obama mantra – Repeat after me – “There is no scandal!  There is no scandal!  There is no scandal!”

Godwin’s law is not necessarily wrong ALL THE TIME.
Sometimes the fascist/Goebbels twist is wholly appropriate.
      Like, in this case.

  • I think we are in end times for the Republic. Chris Christie just attacked libertarians. Conservatives don’t like him, so its natural for him to attack another base of the party, too. Which means he will get the nod and lose to Hillary.
OK…so 8 more years of this, and I also suspect the GOP will start losing seats, too. You simply cannot anger the conservative AND libertarian base of your party and expect much turnout.
Now, when everything falls apart, as Dale says, people will start looking for a man on the white horse.
I submit that perhaps instead of seeking out better electoral candidates, we should begin to look for a decent Caesar.

    • Off-hand Petraeus comes to mind, simply because his name sounds like a Roman general’s name.

  • The effect in terms of public approval can be seen in the polls. Fox News, in May, compared its recent IRS polling with its polling 10 years ago. In May 2003, just under a third of all respondents said they had little or no faith in the IRS — a high number, perhaps, but a cantankerously American one. In May 2013, that number had jumped to 57%. Around the time of Fox’s 2013 poll, Gallup had 60% of Americans seeing the IRS as an agency that “frequently abuses its powers.” And Gallup had 42% of respondents saying the IRS did a “poor” job, more than double the figure from 2009.
One irony here is that the Obama White House, always keen to increase the reach and power of government, also seems profoundly disinterested in good governing. It is strange. The long-term project of liberalism involves encouraging the idea of faith in government as a bringer or guarantor of greater justice. But who needs more government if government works so very badly, and is in its operations unjust?
This White House is careless with the reputation of government. They are a campaigning organization, not a governing one.

Interesting, innit, how those “non-scandals” have so much impact on American public opinion.  Empirically, I mean.  Why, it is almost like you can see it happening in real time, if you are not blinded by ideology and partisanship…

    • I’m still wondering about the other 40 some odd percent. That might be the huge percentage of people that don’t file taxes AT ALL.

  • The IRS admitted publicly.  One of the major players, Lois Lerner admitted publicly at the American Bar Association tax section’s big annual meeting that the IRS had special handling for conservative groups.
It’s pretty hard to be a “phony” scandal when they admitted it.

  • In the movies, the cops are always afraid of Internal Affairs. In the IRS, they must just laugh at the IG.

    • Yes.  At their million-dollar “conference”, complete with a video production equating the IG with the Keystone Kops, and line-dance lessons.

  • Phony? Barry, after selling the country on being the first African president turns out you’re half White & Half Arab, that pretty much makes you an expert on what constitutes phony.
