Free Markets, Free People

It took almost 6 years, but Peggy Noonan is finally waking up …

Seriously, if I were her, I’d be embarrassed to write this:

Everyone is doing thoughtful year-end pieces on President Obama. Writers and reporters agree he’s had his worst year ever. I infer from most of their essays an unstated but broadly held sense of foreboding: There’s no particular reason to believe next year will be better, and in fact signs and indications point to continued trouble.

I would add that in recent weeks I have begun to worry about the basic competency of the administration, its ability to perform the most fundamental duties of executive management. One reason I worry is that I frequently speak with people who interact with the White House, and when I say, “That place just doesn’t seem to work,” they don’t defend it, they offer off-the-record examples of how poorly the government is run.

“Have begun to worry?!”  Really?!  Just now?!

The guy has been clueless since the beginning and Peggy Noonan is just now beginning to worry.  My goodness where has she been?  We’ve watched a raft of failures in both domestic and foreign policy, an economy and job market that continue to suck, and an imperial presidency in which the incumbent prefers to rule by decree rather than as the Constitution outlines.  And then there’s his signature law – ObamaCare.

And Noonan is just now starting to worry.

Lord save us from the chattering class.  Blinders firmly in place, they’ve ignored this incompetence for all these years and now, when it is sort of safe to actually point it out, they’re “discovering” it.

They’re as clueless as this president.

  • And the admission yesterday by BahBah WahWah that they thought Obama was going to be the next messiah.
Not that it will change a damn thing they do or think you understand.  They’re in for the pound on this.
Comforting to think so many important people are dumbasses.

    • Loved the little vignette of her driving through the mountains with Fidel’s gun in her lap for ten days.
      Ah, memories…

      • I’m… a loss for words.   I will point out though, the possibility for raunchy byplay is endless.
As far as the men involved with the witch, they must have liked the whacked with a shovel look.

        • She states they were not romantically involved. Not sure that means no sex. After all, god like rulers need their release, even when there is no romance.

  • “domestic and foreign policy”
Oh, this one, too good to pass on – arresting, incarcerating and strip/cavity searching a female Indian diplomat in New York, for possible violation of immigration/labor law.    Do you suppose the Russians will give us back the reset button that we can have re-stamped in Hindi?
I wonder how many gay US diplomatic personnel are about to discover the new anti-gay Indian law rulings in retaliation for this, as but ONE example.   The Obama administration, operated by (corrupt) Chicago elementary schoolers.

  • She’s an idiot who endorsed Obama, and I aosolutely refuse to read anything she’s written.

    • There is really something weird in the “republican” pundit class. Likewise with “republican” beltway politicians.

We need a big tent party to win, and I accept that means we need put up with the likes of the GOP senators who have served in Maine and MA, etc. I expect that any future GOP POTUS will have to cut deals with the devil, as will those in Congress. But how does any “republican” pundit end up so clueless?

      • I’ve had some contact with some of the DC “power class” and you really have to realize that it’s really just one big .. to use a math metaphor .. “friendly neighborhood.”
The “Establishment Republicans” live in the same neighborhoods as the “Establishment Democrats.”
They share referrals of folks they cant use (for Party related reasons).
The perfect example of being inbred.

  • To be more accurate, Peggy has been sort of in a “hit the snooze button” state for years.
She coined the truism, “Obama made it worse” in his first term, about mid-way, as I recall.
    She periodically wakes up.

  • DC District Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle yesterday ordered the Obama Administration to release a copy of an unclassified presidential directive, and she said the attempt to withhold it represented an improper exercise of “secret law.”
The Obama White House has a “limitless” view of its authority to withhold presidential communications from the public, she wrote, but that view is wrong.
“The government appears to adopt the cavalier attitude that the President should be permitted to convey orders throughout the Executive Branch without public oversight– to engage in what is in effect governance by ‘secret law’,” Judge Huvelle wrote in her December 17 opinion.
“The Court finds equally troubling the government’s complementary suggestion that ‘effective’ governance requires that a President’s substantive and non-classified directives to Executive Branch agencies remain concealed from public scrutiny,” she wrote.
Poor, broken child. Spanked by ANOTHER Federal court.
Obama made it worse. Way worse than Nixon.

    • Nah, he’s a victim of circumstance these days. He’s just helpless, I say helpless to stop these things.  Nothing that’s happening is his doing…it’s ‘the government’ that caused all this.
Well, ‘the government’ and of course, good old George W. Bush.  5 years out of office, and STILL wrecking the country.
      Powerful President was he, yea-us.

    • You really have to see this Politico piece ..

This is not just about providing added muscle to a beleaguered and undermanned West Wing staff. According to interviews in recent weeks with an array of Obama insiders and a dozen current and former senior aides, Podesta’s hire is explicitly meant to shake things up inside the White House. In effect, I was told, it represents the clearest sign to date of the administration’s interest in shifting the paradigm of Obama’s presidency through the forceful, unapologetic and occasionally provocative application of White House power. Podesta, whose official mandate includes enforcement of numerous executive orders on emissions and the environment, suggested as much when he spoke with me earlier this fall about Obama’s team. “They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress,” he told me.

… it’s going to get worse

    • Make no mistake the Left will dismantle the heavy handed tradition of Obama rule just before he finally exits office.  That way the precedent will wiped away for the next [likely republican] president.  If they do it while he is still in office so when Obama is brought up they’ll say “yeah but the supreme court put an end to that under Obama”.  But by waiting to the last second, they’ll get the most out of his absolute rule.

      • Oh, there is no doubt no Repub could act in the manner of Obama and get away with it. But at the same time, they can’t turn back the clock. Whatever trust is gone. Whatever goodwill is gone.

  • Being clueless is an essential quality necessary to keep being invited to all those upper East Side parties.

    It’s a feature, not a bug.

  • If he were a Caucasian president, he would be impeached, if he were a Republican Caucasian president, he would be in jail.
Now that’s Change… like contracting cancer is change.
Eventually Benghazi Berry will fade in to a bad memory, but the Malfeasant Media sticks with us like bad genes producing an endless supply of usurping Progressives.

  • And Podesta now working for the most Jim Jones cult like Administration I’ve experienced, and would be willing to bet is the most Jim Jones cult like administration EVER, claims the Republicans are the cult?
Obama is ALL cult, and has been since he threw his hat into the ring for President.
My God – the guy who, merely being ‘black’ and nominated for President, wins a Nobel Prize, the guy who Walters admits they thought was a come again Messiah.   And Podesta says the Republicans are the cult? Perhaps the cult of ruling class idiots, but by comparison, hardly worthy of being ranked with Jim Jones.

Imagine how things would be if we had a working press, instead of the propaganda wing of the Collective.
We’d have a ghoulish “body count” every day, and the incredible incompetence of the Obami in Afghanistan would be the story of the day. Well…
ONE of the MANY stories of the day, covering the Obamic Decline.

    • Collectivists have to stand reality on its head.
Jamestown WAS the Collective.  It WAS the cult of personality that is the Obamic base.  And there are obvious parallels with the suicidal Kool-aid drinking that was its climax.  Well, along with the murders committed to keep stuff covered up.

      • They are very good at this. They also like to use “marketese” where they invoke free market ideas and concepts to sell statism.

        • Like one of my current favs…ObamaDoggle uses market ideas to give you choices, driving the cost of medical insurance down.
Each claim of which is a stinking lie.  Stinking.  Lie.

      • The Jamestown cult was in fact peopled by leftists, most if not all of whom would have been in the Obama cult as well, had they still existed when Obama was POTUS.

  • Hey, Peggy, you could have found out about the real Obama a long time ago, if you had not been so determined at that time to keep your head shoved so firmly up your own ass. From over four years ago:

I’ve read accounts by adoring Obama fans that he has a “world class intellect” and a “world class temperament”. I’ve seen no evidence of either one. I won’t buy that “world class intellect” thing until I start seeing some better judgment than he has shown so far. And it’s pretty easy to display a good temperament when the reporting on you is being performed by acolytes instead of journalists. Even now, he shows flashes of bad attitude that will probably get worse if a few of his media lackeys get over their tingly thighs sometime soon and start being 1/10 as tough on Obama as they were on Bush.
Obama’s real risk is that his silly, unforced missteps such as Honduras and Gates, coupled with his lack of ability to get his socialist programs passed, solidify at some point into disillusionment among the press. Those guys move as a herd; if a few key journalists start an “Obama is having real problems” narrative, the others will jump right in. Obama probably won’t handle that scenario well, because he has no experience with it.
I can’t deny that I’m amused by the whole thing. I never saw in Obama what his swooning supporters saw, and I thought they were deceiving themselves into thinking he was brilliant and capable. So far, that evaluation is looking reasonably good.

    • Props, Billy.  BUT without detracting…

The cutline on Froma Harrop’s article at Real Clear Politics, titled “Obama Scores as Exotic Who Says Nothing,” was December 26, 2006. Which means that the MSM had over a year and a half to tell potential voters what Mr. Obama wasn’t saying. Instead, in mid-2008, CNN demonstrated how flexible they would be with the truth, first praising hate-filled Obama mentor Rev. Wright’s NAACP, then a week later, tossing Wright down the memory hole on behalf of his most famous parishioner.
      —Ed Driscoll, today

Also, those of us who read his books…or even excepts from them…KNEW who he was, as opposed to who he pretended to be with Mushroom Media open collusion.

  • If she were being completely honest, she’d preface all these kinds of pieces with “I was wrong…”

  • Yet… (from the article)

Wait—wait. No—uh—I don’t think that’s the code we use to launch against incoming from North Korea, I think that one takes out Paris!”

Behind every dark cloud is a silver lining.
