Wait … didn’t they say if we didn’t pass ObamaCare this would get worse?!

Why yes, yes they did.  And they also told us it was because of the expense of this sort of medical care that the benevolent and non-intrusive federal government saw a reason to attempt to manage this through its new and wonderful law.

Nationally, nearly half of ER doctors responding to a recent poll by the American College of Emergency Physicians said they’ve seen more visits since Jan. 1, and nearly nine in 10 expect those visits to rise in the next three years. Mike Rust, president of the Kentucky Hospital Association, said members statewide describe the same trend.

Experts cite many reasons: A long-standing shortage of primary-care doctors leaves too few to handle all the newly insured patients. Some doctors won’t accept Medicaid. And poor people often can’t take time from work when most primary care offices are open, while ERs operate round-the-clock and by law must at least stabilize patients.

Plus, some patients who have been uninsured for years don’t have regular doctors and are accustomed to using ERs, even though it is much more expensive.

“It’s a perfect storm here,” said Dr. Ryan Stanton of Lexington, president of the Kentucky chapter of the ER physician group.”We’ve given people an ATM card in a town with no ATMs.”

I love the doc’s line about ATMs.  He’s nailed it on the head.

Now I won’t bore you with the fact that we foresaw this and wrote about it.  I mean we talked about doctor shortages, that an increase in those having insurance didn’t mean they’d be able to see a doctor and how doctors were dumping Medicare because of all the hassles and low payments.

But our ever faithful zealots on the left kept telling us that a) we didn’t know what we were talking about, b) human nature isn’t really human nature and c) now that everyone would have insurance all would be sunshine and roses and costs would magically come down (because, you know, the Democrats said they would).

Instead it is all mostly compost.  ERs are seeing a surge in patient visits and expect it to get worse.   Of course, that sort of care is much more costly than regular doctor office visits (according to the article, about $580 per visit more) but what they hey, they have subsidized insurance now … so you get to continue paying for it.

Another in a long line (and getting even longer) of predictions about the effect of a program that this administration has gotten completely bass ackwards.

It just doesn’t exist in Washington DC and especially with this administration.

  • Incompetence?  No, no, no.  Remember, we were told this was to eliminate the horror of “free-riders” on the backs of responsible tax-payers.
But, as an essential part of the ObamaDoggle program, free-riders were made institutional, complete with SUBSIDIES paid by TAX-PAYERS.
    Plus….it was FREE.
It was a lie.  It had nothing to do with “incompetence“.

  • The problem you see is that these previously uninsured folks have been given the worst medical plan imaginable.
The next step will be to reduce everybody else to have the same miserable plan … in the name of inequality.

    • “in the name of inequality.”
Isn’t that the same premise Common Core is using in education – to narrow the gap between ‘wealthy’ kids education and ‘poor’ kids educations by making sure everyone is a dumbass?

      • Yep.  Make them all more ignorant.  Yea…EQUALITY…!!!
Meanwhile, the Gates kids are NOT in a Common Core school.  Odd, huh…???

  • Today’s news?
Obama explains the reason he made no apologies for the Bergdahl swap 5 days ago was because Chuck Hagel did it.
We have a transcript of the conversation between Hagel and Obama, informing the President that he would need to clear his schedule to have a public relations spectacle in the Rose Garden with Bowe Bergdahl’s parents.
Hagel:  “yeah, is that you you skinny twerp?, This is Chuck.”
    Obama: “Yes sir Mr. Hagel”
Hagel: “I’ve arranged for that little SOB Bergdahl to be exchanged, I think it would be a damn fine idea for YOU to meet with his parents, say, in the Rose Garden, in a televised ceremony Saturday.   You think you can handle that?”
Obama: “I was going to go golfing at Andrews on Saturday….”
Hagel: “Well you aren’t now skinny britches, you’re having a meeting with this damned deserter’s parents, get your teletalking brain set up so you don’t go off script, no folksy crap about evil rich Republicans on this one, it’s not the time or place”
    Obama: “But…”
Hagel:  “Which part of this aren’t you getting?  It’s simple, you meet with his parents, say a few words about no man left behind, everyone smiles, you beeeeg hero, again.  You always enjoy that part, suck it up.”
Obama: “Can I go golfing afterwards”
Hagel: “I don’t care if you ride around Washington on your wife’s bike followed by half the Secret Service once you’ve done the Rose Garden show, just get it done.  And you don’t have a lot of time to pull it together, I made the mistake of letting Harry Reid know that the deal is going through, I think, maybe I did, I can’t recall, maybe I’m supposed to do that.  Anyway, he might spill the beans before you get a chance to do the ceremony, so get on it ASAP, got that?”
    Obama:”Yes sir”
    Hagel: “Get it done Barry”

    • The administration’s claim that Hagel, not Obama, made the decision is at odds with what Hagel himself said on Meet the Press on June 1. “I signed off on the decision,” Hagel said. “The president made the ultimate decision.”
That Hagel… Such an eeeeeevile genius.  Right up there with ChimpyMcHitler BOOOOOOoooooosh…

      • What Barack’s handlers don’t seem to understand is this sort of revelation is just MORE proof they and their boss are wildly incompetent.
So the SecDef does what he wants?
Oh, wait, no, we mean the President didn’t find out about it until the news came out AFTER his Rose Garden conference with the Bergdahls?
Barack makes no apologies, we don’t leave a man behind, it’s all a made up controversy.
In other words, all that brave “stay the course” “damn the torpedoes” “the buck stops here” “we don’t leave men behind” crap that Barack spouted from Monday forward last week was just him covering for Chuck Hagel?
So, has there been a week in the last 4 months where the Administration hasn’t blown a scandal out of the headlines by getting itself involved in some other scandal?

        • Well, it may be my cockeyed optimism speaking, but…
it seems that the lying liars have finally strained the credulous Mushroom Media to the breakage point.
They aren’t buying Obamic lies, and they are being openly critical of Hill-larry’s “We was po” bullshit.

          • Hey man, from your lips to the Deity’s ears.
Not that I expect it’s going to change the behaviors of my many clearly dumbass countrymen.
