The pathetic bias of the New York Times, summarized in two pics

(This screen cap done at 9:00 AM CST 15 June, 2014)

We’ve known that the New York Times has been part of the palace guard for Democrats for quite a while.* But this is a new low.

If 18 minutes of lost taped conversations in Nixon’s White House is good for weeks of coverage, surely close to two years of lost emails from someone accused targeting the president’s political opponents is even more important.

The story has been on the networks’ web sites since Friday (NBC, CBS, Fox) plus outlets like Forbes, the Fiscal Times, and lots of others. Given that, no serious, objective media outlet would ever ignore the lost IRS email story for two days, and leave it out of their biggest edition of the week. Not the “paper of record”. Not the publication that brags it contains “all the news that’s fit to print”.

But that’s exactly what the Times has done.

The Washington Post is marginally better. No front page story, as the story manifestly deserves. No original reporting, even though the story is in their own backyard. But they do have a couple of Associated Press reports in two sections Politics and Business (yeah, Business – I don’t get it either).

If you still think the Times and Post have not chosen sides politically, then you are a willfully blind, naive fool.

*Occasionally a decent article slips through, or perhaps is done as camouflage to bolster the idea that they are serious objective journalists. They stopped fooling anyone connected to reality quite a while back.

  • Suppose…as a thought experiment…you, like our own Mavin Of Moosesqueeze and the denizens of New York and others within the bubble of Collectivism, arrogated to yourself the conceit that YOU were better-informed AND more capable of insights predicated on your religious (a term I use advisedly) consumption of the New York Times
When you came up against the stark reality that the Times (actually that of either coast) intentionally withheld a story of this magnitude, would that NOT shake your entire world-view?  Would it not anger you to realized how duped you’d been?  It sure would me…

    • Your hypothetical assumes someone who is willfully blind. So, unlike you and I, I assume they will go on being willfully blind. The alternative is too psychically painful.

I have faced some painful realizations in my life. I have adjusted to them and moved on. But that’s because, like you, I’m connected to reality and unwilling to live with a lie. Much of the left simply does not fit that description. Collectivism is their substitute for religion – for greater meaning in their lives – and they will cheerfully manufacture the most preposterous rationalizations rather than give it up.

As long as their (usually government sourced) check keeps going into direct deposit each month, the grocery store doesn’t run out of food, and the utilities keep the house comfortable, they can maintain their delusions. So they will.

They believe, in their own minds, that they cannot be duped. They’re too smart for that, as far as they are concerned. And how could such a smart person ever devote himself or herself to a wildly incorrect worldview? Something must just be wrong with the world; as far as they are concerned nothing is ever wrong with them.

      • Yeeeeup.  BUT…
there ARE…on the bell-curve…those who are not self-liars on the level of Erp and his ilk.  This kind of jarring information…when it seeps through the crap-pack in their skulls…SOMETIMES does bring about an epiphany.
So…  You did a good thing, Billy.  You are a benefactor of humanity…!!!

        • Yeah, there are a few. David Horowitz is close to the canonical example. Bill Quick was a lefty in his youth. Dennis Miller had an epiphany after 9/11. Etc.

But if it’s a Bell Curve, only the ones way down at one end of the curve have the ability to overcome their quasi-religious faith in collectivism. Statistically, it looks like a small fraction to me.

Especially in journalism and academia, it’s damn near impossible, because it implies turning your back on your friends, and probably your income. It would take a very strong person to do that. I suspect there are a few that have made the mental shift, but can never, ever come out of the closet about it because it would effectively end their careers.

          • Still, a LOT of the pajamahadeen are BOTH entertainment/academic types AND former lefties.  Even Bill Whittle…!!!  So, perhaps the exceptions that prove the rule.  But STILL exceptions…!!!

      • ” have faced some painful realizations in my life.”

One of mine:  I will never get my old waistline back.

    • “The IRS scandal has been debunked! I decree it! I can’t hear you la-la-la-la…”

  • “The NYT tells me that they aren’t the biased ones.  They got to me first, so they must be right.  BTW, you’re a racist bad man.”
^^^That is what you’re dealing with.  Kids have been dumbed down in most schools with particularly no critical thinking skills.  People have been made dumb, because when you control the megaphone, that’s what you want.

  • “President Obama said denying climate change is like arguing the moon is made of cheese, as he issued a call to action on global warming to Saturday’s graduates of the University of California, Irvine.”
Well, kinda. IF you have samples of moon matter composition showing it is made up of complex protein/lipid matrices consistent with mammalian lactic excretions.

    • Denying “Climate Change”… is like denying night is dark and daytime is light. So says our 2nd Grader-in-Chief.

  • Yeah, but that was when Rosemary Woods was on keyboards for the band man, now we’re probably talking an uncredited run at the email keyboard by Valerie Jarrett.
No one wants to hear about that stuff dude.  Old news, fake scandal, uh, something like that.
By the way, I’m sorta enjoying how Barack and his friends managed to Cloward Piven the crap out of themselves with more wonderful crisis opportunities then Constitutional Professor propeller Beany ever thought could happen.   Nicer bunch of people couldn’t get this lucky, if the country didn’t deserve what’s it’s getting for electing this little thug, twice, I’d say it was too bad.

  • If you reissue that search at the NYT, you’ll now find that the topic has finally been mentioned, but without really saying anything much.   It’s in a little round-up of items from other papers.

    • Any more if I want to know what’s actually kinda happening in the US, I read British news.
At least they make no secret of their biases, and they don’t particularly care if son altesse impériale masjesty gets all wee weed up over it.

  • House and Ways Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) says that along with providing news of the emails that have been lost, the IRS suggested in the same letter to Congress that it end its investigation.
The late disclosure of the lost emails may be reason to disregard the suggestion.

    • It’s time the members of Congress wrote a letter to the IRS, offering a deal to the first few who rat the rest out, and rigorous prosecution to those remaining.
They need to impeach Holder.  Now.

      • Stop it.
Nobody’s gonna be impeached. Not Holder, not his boss, nobody.  Nobody is going to jail for this. No price will be paid.
Rags, nobody cares. NOBODY cares. The Dems are happy it happened, and would do it again. Most of the GOP doesn’t care either. Sure, the tea party rabble in flyover country care about it but they don’t count. Besides, what are they gonna do about it?

      • The explanation given is that for some reason that is known only to the IRS, most e-mails were kept on a centralized computer system (these e-mails do survive) but some specialized list of other e-mails were only stored on the hard drive of the user (these e-mails are missing).
Why this bifurcated storage system ? Who knows ? It sure does sound mighty convenient, and probably a violation of the federal records act.

        • Such atrocious bullshit – it really is “the dog ate my homework, my permission slips, and the discipline notes the teacher sent home to my parents for signatures” all rolled into one.
Sharyl Attkisson came up with a list of questions, directed at the workers who maintain the network, hardware and data that, if asked, would force them to either lie to Congress under questioning, or come clean.   But then we all know it’s George Bush’s fault, or low level interns in Cincinnati or some other bare faced bold faced bullshit lie that nothing will be done about.
Screw the big fish, there’s a reality trail in any organization that the big fish are so clueless about that it boggles the mind.  Bring in the grunt players, ask who, how, when, where and see how many of them are willing to throw themselves on their swords for Lerner, Barack and the rest of them.
Course if Congress plans to continue their endless investigations without action, there’s not much point in all this is there.
          More Kabuki from Washington.

          • Send in marshalls – damn if I know where from – so much SWAT armed gear for them to play with – do they all answer to Holder and Barack?
Anyway, you might recall the State of Texas got a might peeved with Texas NHIC about 14 years ago – Travis county appeared one day in force, armed with papers and firepower, parked two empty 50 foot trailers in the side lot, snatched a lot of computers off desks, and instructed the ‘vendor’ that ALL office waste was to be stacked in the 50 foot trailers at the end of every evening until….
I’m told it was quite entertaining, alas I was out that day.
The trailers were still there when my contract ended, and I believe there’s another vendor running NHIC today.
Again, not gonna happen since Eric ‘you’re all racists!’ Holder is running Justice, and his Chicago mob boss is running him.

      • Amen.
Won’t happen though, Ruling Class Repuddlekids don’t really want to tip over the apple cart.   They just want a ‘by your leave’ to be able to steal the occasional apple from it now and again.
These investigations are all show and no go.
IRS, Fast and Furious, ICE, Benghazi – come on.  Enough.   It can’t be THAT hard to subvert someone in this administration, they can’t ALL be bought men and women, someone, somewhere has GOT to have dirt and has to be angry
        and yet.
Obama and his stooges can’t be THAT good at covering it up, if they were that good so much of this shirt wouldn’t have ever hit the fan in the first place.
The only answer is Congress is covering too.

        • Obama uses drones on Americans, politically weaponizes the IRS, Spies on Everyone, Took out Kadafi because of the lockerbee bomber embarassment.  That’s the stuff in the open.  I would need stong incentive to rat out this administration.

          • I would think the idea that he’s going to greatly assist in reducing America to a banana republic might qualify.
If I had anything on the rat, I’d have long ago used it.    Things might bet better I suppose, but they might get worse, and with things as they are, they can get a lot worse.

You can kiss any expectation of a VA management shakeup good-bye.

    Just more business-as-flucking-usual.

    • Yeah, now he’s playing the all or nothing game – “if you criticize 400 people, you’re criticizing 350,000, if you fire 10 people, you have to fire 350,000”
He might as well just have used this speech –
Otter: What’s the difference? [aloud] Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests—we did. [winks at Dean Wormer] But you can’t hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick perverted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg: isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you you want to us, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!
[Leads the Deltas out of the hearing, all humming the Star-Spangled Banner]”
I am so so so tired of the unaccountable smart mouth asswipes treating us like….oh wait….we elected Barack twice….no he’s right, we’re morons.

  • IMF Declares Global Warming Dead

Yet growth in 2014 won’t likely top last year’s lackluster performance, the IMF says. The Washington-based organization foresees the economy growing a modest 2 percent in 2014, below its previous estimate of 2.7 percent. That would be nearly identical to the 1.9 percent growth in 2013.

The IMF blames the lingering aftermath of the brutal winters and a sluggish recovery in home sales. Years of disappointing growth mean the economy might not reach full employment — which many economists say is when the unemployment rate is between 5 and 5.5 percent — for three more years.

Nobody but dedicated and shameless bung-suckers for the Collective is buying the “lost emails” BS.
Cleta Mitchell is on it.  Read the letter.  It details the VARIOUS reasons the IRS is in deep shit.

    • Ouch   🙂
this makes me smile one smile that runs all round my face two times.

Innit wonderful that we can totally depend on our national security people to eschew magical thinking and focus on real stuff…???
    We are so screwed…

    • We’re gonna protect em with a big bubble blanket like you use to keep the swimming pool warm when the season gets colder, or does it keep them cool when the season gets warmer.
I never used one, because I was a pool climate change denier.

    • It appears that the IRS ran their e-mail services not as a records retention operation, but more akin to a telephone system.
Backup tape were reused after 6 months. When they ran out of disk space the just started deleting things, starting with the oldest.
The IRS expects taxpayers to retain records for 7 years of audits, but haphazardly backups up it’s e-mail record for maybe 2 or 3 years.

  • Nothing to see here, move along

  • I don’t see this lasting a moment past the first legal challenge …

Undocumented immigrants in New York could become “state citizens” with a slew of benefits from driver’s licenses under a new bill to be introduced Monday.

Advocates are set to announce a bill that would allow immigrants who aren’t U.S. citizens to become New York state citizens if they can prove they’ve lived and paid taxes in the state for three years and pledge to uphold New York laws, regardless of whether they’re in the country legally.

    • That’s sort of seccessionitsy.

      • That is sort of why they ran around and signed up a block of states to commit electoral college votes based on the overall total number of votes instead of a their state’s total votes.
Because a corrupt State like new york if they found a way to stuff the ballot, are going to be a win for the Democrats anyway and the extra votes don’t do anything.  But with that agreement, if they stuff ballots, they can use that to tilt the entire vote.

      • That’s what I thought too.

They should feel free to leave any time they like, I’m all for it.

  • The New York Times – based on Krugman’s article and the comments to his latest propaganda effort….
A paper written by idiots, for idiots.
Page after page of, “he just didn’t do enough, but by golly he tried!”, “you’re right, this is gonna be a great year!”
New York City, orbiting 3.5 planets out from the star Sol in a smallish solar system of the Milky Way Galaxy.  The New York Times, a vehicle by which the people of New York City often attempt to communicate with Earth.

    • You refer to the Caliphate On Hudson…???

    • And the comments are full of drooling idiots saying things such as “Professor Krugman, many thanks for publicly stating what has been so obvious–to me at any rate…”

Yeah, it’s obvious to these idiots that Obama is such a great man, because how could he not be? He’s our first black president! He’s historic! He has world-class intellect!

Krugman says “llook at outcomes”, and then proceeds to spin failures into successes and avoids the most damning outcomes of all – the American economy is crippled and Obama’s foreign policy is an unmitigated disaster. Even without getting into Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS targeting, the VA coverups….

      • I have never had the liver to read comments from the Nuevo Ork Tiempo.  There are just some things I will not do to myself…  Or to my opinion of my fellow critters…even those in a cess-pool of Collectivism.

      • I almost wish the Democrats had full control until now, so they would have zero excuses.

    • So, Maliki has agreed to policy changes?
BTW, I read a Dexter Filkins piece in the New Yorkers, and its not very nice to Maliki.
Looks like Allawi would have been far better, but Iran and the Shia wanted to rule the roost.
We should have just installed Chalabi from the beginning.

  • I loved that obamacare’s numbers are both real and legitimate. Well according to the comments anyway. Never mind what they originally claimed they needed and what the composition needed to be. Funny how the actual history no longer matters so long as the magic 8 million number was allegedly achieved. Talk about brilliant low information New York Times authors and readers.

  • Thousands to Be Questioned on Eligibility for Health Insurance Subsidies
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is contacting hundreds of thousands of people…

Of the eight million people who signed up for private health plans through insurance exchanges under the new health care law, two million reported personal information that differed from data in government records,…

Wow, bury that headline. From thousands to hundreds of thousand to millions in a little over a paragraph.  Any bets that 2 million figure is way low?

  • And so the consequences of a shrunken America metastasize – from jihadist gangs in Benghazi to chemical gas attacks in Syria to the world’s wealthiest jihad state in western Iraq to nuclear ayatollahs, the biggest domino of all. Any US-Iranian deal will be like that Bergdahl/Taliban one. The purpose of “cooperation” for the mullahs would be to provide cover for getting them into Iraq, while the purpose of “cooperation” for the Obama Administration would be to provide cover for staying out. So Iranians would be on the ground in the Shia south while a few drones and whatnot would bomb the Sunni Triangle. The bombing raids would end, but the Iranians would remain. And a nuclear Iran would be born not as a global pariah but within the context of a Washington-Teheran rapprochement.
I think that Steyn has it about right.  The rest of the world has been reading Obama, and they have acted on what they understood.  All of it to our detriment.

    • Bu Bu bu – health care!  Uh, Gay Marriage, sorta!   And most importantly, that US security threatening onrushing disastrous, maybe cause the oceans to rise in a 1000 years TERROR, CLIMATE CHANGE!!!!!!
Yes, well focused, well done.   Always good to have a sense of perspective on what’s important in the long run, and what isn’t.     When the climate changes over some city in Israel, France, England, Germany, the US from 65 degrees F to 10,000 F in a micro second, maybe they’ll catch on.

      • No they won’t. That kind never does.

        • Bush’s fault anyway.
Speaking of ongoing Bush faults, do you suppose it’s occurred to them that we might have to support the troops we just shipped to Baghdad?
Considering they were all kinda shocked and surprised the Benghazi embassy was attacked on the anniversary of 9/11, do you think they realize the embassy in Baghdad might get attacked during an ISIS incursion?
Someone go do a sweep of Youtube and see if there’s an offensive Islamic video out there so we can lay the groundwork for Susan Rice’s next Sunday appearances explaining what REALLY happened in Iraq.

  • “The future must not belong to those who would insult Mohammed”

  • Hey, breaking news, our special forces captured the “kid” from Benghazi who called all his buddies on his cell phone and got everyone upset over that anti-Islam YouTube video in September of 2012 – you remember, the one that caused the riots and the attack on the embassy in Benghazi?
Yeah, well, we caught ‘the kid’ it seems and shoot, now they’re talking like it was planned and coordinated or something!   Wow!!!!
In December of 2013, “The Times” had this to say about the attack after their extensive investigation
“The violence, though, also had spontaneous elements. Anger at the video motivated the initial attack. Dozens of people joined in, some of them provoked by the video and others responding to fast-spreading false rumors that guards inside the American compound had shot Libyan protesters. Looters and arsonists, without any sign of a plan, were the ones who ravaged the compound after the initial attack, according to more than a dozen Libyan witnesses as well as many American officials who have viewed the footage from security cameras.”
The New York Times, suitable for puppy training, rodent cage lining and starting fires in your charcoal chimney (causing global warming) after your progressive dumbass neighbor tosses it in the recycle.

    • Yeah, deep, dark SpecOps thingy…after CNN interviewed him over a year back.  So silly…

      • Hell, I’m surprised Obama isn’t taking a victory lap and spiking a golf ball with BFD Biden in the Rose Garden today.

        • Timing is everything
          That and location, location, location…

          • Actually, if I recall from my headline scan earlier, I think he’s busy welcoming illegal immigrants, uh, I mean DREAMERS to the White House today.

And more than likely he’s really really tired from sitting in the dark clutching that X-Box controller all night after running that mission in Benghazi.

He and Joe had to run it 20 times before they got everyone out alive, Biden is kinda trigger happy and he kept team killing his own men at first.

    That sorta…I dunno…calls Buzzfeed’s objectivity into question…

  • Oh noes, far-right unhappy that respected media isn’t far-right enough! News at 11! Though only on far-right news sites 😀

    • Wow.  What must it be like to condescend to well-informed people while wallowing in your ignorance. 😉

      • I love the implication that being “far-right” means “not covering up for the government”.

Which is, in fact, the way most lefties look at the press.

        • It is a Collectivist virtue to suborn perjury and the destruction of evidence to defeat due process for ordinary Americans.  See Clinton, Bill.

    • Respected, by people like you Tommy, and that pretty much says all that needs to be said doesn’t it.

Evidence of crappy reporting or NON reporting, here presented, aside.

      • The fallacy of an appeal to authority.  But what a weak-ass “authority”…!!!  “Respected”?…BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA…!!!

    • Oh, and….speaking of pathetic bias….

  • “We cannot let a minority of people — and that’s what it is, a minority of people — hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people,” Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday when asked about the gun-control debate.
She was talking about our right to keep and bear arms.  (Funny, though…the comment could be made about your rights to dissenting speech.)  “Terrorizes”…???
She knows exactly as much about the issues as we’ve come to expect (meaning she is grossly ignorant), but she’s quite willing to take your Bill Of Rights provisions from you, as she proved in the Benghazi debacle with the First Amendment.
    She has to be stopped.

    • Yep, we need to ban them automatic weapons!

      Hillary Clinton speaks –

I’m a US Senator, former First Lady, practically the smartest women in any room, Former Secretary of State, obvious Presidential candidate.

And yet, despite all the lengthy debate, despite the news, despite the simple availability of information, despite the existing laws in place, despite the corrections, again and again and again over the years….

I STILL think that ‘AUTOMATIC’ weapons are being used on the streets and in any mass shootings that occur.   I am still unable to make the very simple distinction between semi-automatic and automatic weapons.   I still believe that a gun’s lethal capability is based on how scary it looks.

Yes, elect me, because, clearly, I’m not nearly as bright as I think, and as many of YOU think.

Which, given that you elected that phony know-nothing with not even MY level of experience in MY place last time, denying me my God given RIGHTFUL place in office, should make me a shoo-in for President.

    • ““We cannot let a minority of people — and that’s what it is, a minority of people — hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people,”

Oh my…yeah, I agree with you Hill – so, let’s start by undoing all the crap Hollywood, Academia, the media, and you jackasses in Washington have been forcing on the rest of us,

like for starters, the idea that automatic weapons are freely available to any clown on the street from any gun selling store or gun show in America.

Apparently, spoliation of evidence is commonplace and accepted by Federal agencies.
What does Pres. ScamWOW do…???  Golfing and fund-raising.
Time for a little revolution, seems to me…

    • “Apparently, spoliation of evidence is commonplace and accepted by Federal agencies.”

Not when the IRS wants YOUR information it ain’t.

Almost certainly the same for vets trying to get treatment from the VA.

Dammit how I’d love to use that as a defense, but the old “two wrongs don’t make a right” philosophy of my evil moralistic western civilized parents keeps getting in the way.

Well, that and a Federal government that doesn’t believe the laws for us apply to them.

    • Reminds me of a quote I saw somewhere: “War is when the government tells you who the enemy is. Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself.”
