ISIS doesn’t need killing. They need jobs!

To describe our State Department (and it’s spokes person) as boneheaded is an insult to boneheaded people.  Here’s State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf and, of all people, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews:

MATTHEWS: How do we stop this? I don’t see it. I see the Shia militias coming out of Baghdad who are all Shia. The Sunnis hate them. The Sunnis are loyal to ISIS rather than going in with the Shia. You’ve got the Kurds, the Jordanian air force and now the Egyptian air force. But i don’t see any — If i were ISIS, I wouldn’t be afraid right now. I can figure there is no existential threat to these people. They can keep finding places where they can hold executions and putting the camera work together, getting their props ready and killing people for show. And nothing we do right now seems to be directed at stopping this.

HARF: Well, I think there’s a few stages here. Right now what we’re doing is trying to take their leaders and their fighters off the battlefield in Iraq and Syria. That’s really where they flourish.

MATTHEWS: Are we killing enough of them?

HARF: We’re killing a lot of them and we’re going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They’re in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs, whether —

MATTHEWS: We’re not going to be able to stop that in our lifetime or fifty lifetimes. There’s always going to be poor people. There’s always going to be poor muslims, and as long as there are poor Muslims, the trumpet’s blowing and they’ll join. We can’t stop that, can we?

HARF: We can work with countries around the world to help improve their governance. We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people…

Good grief, these people don’t want better “governance” and they’ve got the job they want … building the Caliphate.  For heaven sake when are these ass-clowns going to wake up?

I’m again going to recommend an article that does the best analysis and explanation of ISIS that you’re going to find.  It is very clear that those who rally to the ISIS banner think they’re building a righteous future with the Caliphate and that what they’re doing is preordained by their religion.

But the fools who run this country and our foreign policy – that would be the White House and State Department – are terrified of facing the threat and calling it what it is.  It’s absurd and cowardly.  It makes them come up with the sorts of pitiful nonsense that Harf is told to go out and spread.

This is a religious movement which is based, at its very core, on Islam.  It is as religious a movement as you can get.  In fact, as explained in the Atlantic article I’ve pointed you too, it is based in a literal interpretation of Islam’s holy book and its history.  Let me hit you with that one particular quote again:

The reality is that the Islamic State is Islamic. Very Islamic. Yes, it has attracted psychopaths and adventure seekers, drawn largely from the disaffected populations of the Middle East and Europe. But the religion preached by its most ardent followers derives from coherent and even learned interpretations of Islam.

Virtually every major decision and law promulgated by the Islamic State adheres to what it calls, in its press and pronouncements, and on its billboards, license plates, stationery, and coins, “the Prophetic methodology,” which means following the prophecy and example of Muhammad, in punctilious detail. Muslims can reject the Islamic State; nearly all do. But pretending that it isn’t actually a religious, millenarian group, with theology that must be understood to be combatted, has already led the United States to underestimate it and back foolish schemes to counter it. We’ll need to get acquainted with the Islamic State’s intellectual genealogy if we are to react in a way that will not strengthen it, but instead help it self-immolate in its own excessive zeal.

Note what the author points out – that “pretending it isn’t actually religious … has already led the United States to underestimate it and back foolish schemes to counter it.”

See above!  Harf is just a symptom of the idiocy and cowardice that infests our highest levels of government.  When you refuse to actually identify the enemy and his motivation, you cannot hope to devise and develop a plan to counter his threat.  History is littered with the failure such nonsense brings.  Chamberlin thought Hitler could be reasoned with and would keep his word.  He was clueless.  And, as such, he developed a “strategy” that was an abject failure and, in fact, played right into Hitler’s hands.

Obama and Kerry are no different.  They refuse to face the reality of the threat.  That’s why we have no strategy, or at least no strategy (patience?  really?) that will counter the threat.  What they are doing is cowardly and reprehensible, not to mention being derelict in their sworn duties.  This is unacceptable, but then neither Obama nor Kerry have ever been mistaken as leaders.

And when you elect or appoint people with no leadership experience and no real world experience, you get this.  Something 50% of the idiots who live in this country approve of (sorry, I’m a little grumpy today).

  • You see that picture of her? She thinks those glasses make her look smart.

  • TV tells us these people are great, why do you think this reflects badly on anyone or their choices? Bad things are just a bad roll of the dice, I guess.

  • Nobody who counts is willing to say, “It’s the *ISLAM*, stupid!”

Until TPTB can look at Islam’s 1400-year-history of terrorism and blood-lust and conquest, and understand that NOTHING ABOUT ISLAM HAS CHANGED (even though “It’s the 21st Century!!!”) we in the West will continue to be ineffective in defending ourselves and our culture against this totalitarian onslaught.

[It seems that being an open, tolerant, reasonable society leaves us fairly defenseless against a closed, intolerant, and non-compromising enemy, eh ???]

  • Just when you think, “Well they can’t be that stupid,” Obama and his minions prove you wrong. Couldn’t help but recall Jane Curtin’s line from SNL’s special – something about blondes reading fake news then taking a pot-shot at Fox News. Megan Kelly does some of the best on-air interviews around, and you know you’re getting it from a conservative viewpoint.

Don’t like Fox? Change the channel. When the WH spokes-waif is this completely clueless, we really are in some deep sh*t. And the truly frightening thing is – in their heart-of-hearts, they really do believe this stuff.

A little off topic – read the NYT finally acknowledged that, well yeah, there were WMD in Iraq. Wow. Just wow.

    • Naw, naw. Those were NOT WMD. Those were WFFD. Weapons of Few Folks Destruction. A few New York subway commuters, for instance. Or a few folks in an LA high-rise. Not a MASS. Just a few folks.

  • This is exactly the same meme the Collective has used for decades.

First, define the war against the West as a series of criminal acts, to be addressed by the U.S. criminal legal system.

Second, apply the old, old Collectivist canard that crime is caused by poverty, which has been debunked more thoroughly than perhaps any social theory in history.

And, yet, it won’t die, and just keeps mutating. Maybe because stupid liars keep it alive.

    Right, Erp?

  • Something 50% of the idiots who live in this country approve of (sorry, I’m a little grumpy today).

You may be grumpy, but you’re also painfully aware of the problem in our midst.

  • I just keep thinking, “but we can’t even create jobs HERE”.

    • We’re creating jobs there!
Our feckless foreign policy is hard at work this very instant!

We opened up an entire government of jobs, including executive positions, in Libya.
We’ve created jobs for IED makers, arms smugglers, human traffickers and jihadists all through the region.
We’ve helped create jobs for beheaders and human incendiaries.
Here in the west we’ve created jobs for vast numbers of human smugglers, border guides and “look the other way” bribe takers all along our southern border.
We’ve encouraged the Russian arms industry by helping Putin put the muscle back in the Russian Army, repairing and rebuilding fleets of bombers and naval vessels.
We’ve inspired their purchase and improvement of weapons by ceding Crimea and parts of Ukraine to Russia without contest.
Iran’s nuclear industry has never been more busy or prosperous!

This administration has been creating trouble ready jobs practically since the day of it’s first inauguration.

      Here?
Jobs for thousands and thousands of Obama apologists!

      • Please, let’s not forget the jobs Obummer helped create in the ISIS controlled areas: knife sharpeners and orange jumpsuit manufacturers/ sellers. Also, the uptick in digital camera sales to film the beheadings should not be overlooked.

    • The word is “job opportunities” for a reason.

  • Yep, ISIS is just a bunch of bitter clingers in flyover country that need jobs. But clearly that idea is simply too nuanced for you sterile, inbred grunt veteran types with your expereince in “the real world”, as if such actually existed. 97% of scientists agree that my Quantum Reality is more real than yours!

    • Yeah, Sally Asshat is just too smart for us dipwads out here in the sticks.
She should stick with small words that we can follow, and speak loudly and slowly, like the stereotypical American tourist from the movies.

We can’t handle her clear cut idea that “it’s the economy stupid”.

    • And 1200 years of practicing a religion where an accepted/expected part of the manual for spreading that religion is violence.

  • I heard a very salient commentary on a Boston talk radio show this morning: The Cliff Notes version is 0bama is simply too lazy and incompetent to systematically destroy America an aid our enemies. He was coronated into office by the liberal elite media New York Times and the Washington (Com)Post and for the first two years simply parroted their socialist utopian dream plan. As America came to her senses and voted in people more grounded in reality, 0bama checked out; golfing, fundraising, vacationing (separately from his wife) lecturing us how much we all suck for not buying into his redistribution schemes. Now even the limousine liberal press can tell which way the winds blows, and became incoherent, then even critical of “The Won”. 0bama, who seems to have so relied on the press for direction also became incoherent, distancing himself ever further from reality and his comprehension of the serfs he rules over (if that’s even possible). The only pauses between golfing, vacations and fundraisers is to pontificate to us how very wrong the rest of us are on, well, everything.

Can 0bama hide behind his office door for two more years? At some point the Peter Principle has to kick-in.

    • It really begs the question, how did radical community organizer 0bama become Senator 0bama? Then after voting “present” for the vast majority of his tenure, raise to the level of presidential candidate 0bama? Then actually win… with not so little help from..? George Soros?

If all it takes is a pretty face telling pretty lies to become leader of the free world, then we as a Republic are truly doomed.

  • Obama said they had “legitimate grievances”

By that logic, can Tea Partiers behead or immolate IRS officials? They certainly have legit grievances….

    • ‘By that logic, can Tea Partiers behead or immolate IRS officials? They certainly have legit grievances….”

No, that would be domestic terror.
Anything done by white males in the US, is ALWAYS domestic terror, and is always perpetrated by a member of the right wing, fundamentalist, Christian, homophobic, limited government, pro constitution, racist brigade.

Doesn’t matter if the perps are none of those things, as demonstrated the other day when an atheist progressive whacked some people who just happened to be Islamic over a parking space argument.

      • So the modern Tea Party will dress in women’s clothes instead of Native-American attire. Of course that might offend the Scots, but that’s the price you pay for inventing haggis. And the musical haggis, aka bagpipes.

  • Do you notice that government now cannot actually offer jobs, but only “job opportunities?”

    • What the hell does that even mean?
      Typical bait and switch?
Like pretending health insurance = health care?

  • The recommended article was really, really good. I’m pretty knowledgeable about Islam, but did not know about the Caliphate being such a big deal. I still knew that religion was the main motivator. Islam is a very legalistic religion, and the extremists have logical reasons for what they do – even burning that pilot made sense to me, when you understand they consider it an eye for an eye…a bomber gets burned. (Note logically consistency doesn’t mean I agree with it.)

Do you know how good that article was?

It was so good that when reading about the Denmark shooter, I immediately understood what it meant when the story mentioned that the shooter had givene “allegiance” to ISIS on Facebook.

You immediately know that they are talking about “pledges of baya’a” to the Caliphate, not ISIS, per se. Its not just a shout out to a homie.

It also make it risible to claim he’s just a wannabe Islamist gangster.

    • It is a really, really good article. About the best I’ve seen. Glad you enjoyed it.

      • I agree. One of the things I’ve been wondering about since a podcast I listened to said it – why are they basically daring us to come there? Why are they deliberately inciting a response? If they were doing these atrocities and letting the West alone, sadly, the world would probably barely even notice. So why are they deliberately provoking us? Question answered (terrifyingly) by the article – haven’t had a chance to finish it yet, so I’m hoping he’s got some good suggestions on what to do next.

P.S. The podcast is Common Sense by Dan Carlin. I don’t always agree with him, but he’s really been making me think. Some of you might enjoy him.

        • …why are they basically daring us to come there? Why are they deliberately inciting a response?

My understanding is that they have faith that they will eventually win such a conflict, because Allah wills it. They consider the conflict with the infidel world to be inevitable, and part of their holy mission. They are not just interested in power for power’s sake, the way Saddam, for example, was. They are interesting in furthering their dominance to impose their religion as widely as possible, because it’s their holy calling to do so. Just my take, of course, but I think it’s not too far off.

They don’t subscribe to the “God fights on the side of the heaviest artillery” school of war, apparently. Which actually works fine if you can somehow induce those with the biggest artillery not to use it.

          • Especially if your “artillery” is comprised in good part of suicide bombers. It completely changes the whole “queen of battle” thingy.

          • Yeah, but it’s really tough to develop well trained veteran suicide bombers.

          • Though they did successfully overrun an Iraqi base by step stone blowing themselves up as they proceeded further and further into the base.

Again, the problem with the West is they(we) STILL don’t understand cultures where killing yourself in the process of destroying the enemy is considered a form of honor.

You see Iphones, and Twitter and the number 20 in front of the year is supposed to have changed ALL of that kind of thinking.
What these suicidal maniacs don’t understand is their ways are old and outdated and the world has moved beyond those ideas now.
It’s just a damn shame that ‘knowing things’ and being enlightened still provides so very very little protection against an explosive whackjob with 5 pounds of semtex strapped to his body isn’t it?
I guess their way of thinking will eventually die out….unless they wipe ours out first of course.

Man are those radicals going to be sorry when the 21st century thinking referees put entire radical countries in the time out corner for being naughty!

  • Call me a dirty old man, but if it comes to a choice between 72 virgins and a job, I’m taking the virgins.

    • Really

eternal paradise, free from pain, want, hunger, on permanent vacation and getting your virgins to hand peel grapes to feed you

      or

driving a truck for 40 years for Muhammad’s Dew Cola.

Yeah, I can see how any sane man would want that truck drivin job.

    • Does highlight the problem Westerners, especially intellectuals, have understanding the root causes though.

They’re jaded and very certain that the whole virgins thing is superstitious religious bunkum.
Therefore they can’t conceive any rational person REALLY wanting to die for paradise because of course they KNOW that we’re just animated meat puppets until we shuffle off the mortal coil and go into the ground or the fire. There ain’t no undiscovered country in their universe, they’re completely sure that if they wanted to they could make their quietus with a bare bodkin and that would be the end of it.

Many having no faith in a higher power themselves, they view anyone that does as silly and childish and discount the idea that ‘otherwise intelligent’ people believe absolutely in the promised reward.
They’re already playing in the game at a handicap because they don’t understand the primal motivation to die a martyr rather than wait for old age and nature to snuff out your candle.
