If you haven’t figured it out yet, it is all about power and control – over you and your life

This is Hillary Clinton, who would love to be your next president, talking about the power grab over the internet by the FCC and Obama administration. She’s fine with it:

“For the FCC to do what they want to do, to try to create net neutrality as the norm, they have to have a hook to hang it on,” Clinton said. She said it’s the only hook the FCC’s got. But that she’d vote for regulating the Internet.

And despite her husband’s administration not taking such action, Clinton suggested the Internet had developed in such a way that something needed to be changed.

“I would vote for net neutrality, because as I understand it, it’s Title II with a lot of changes within it, in order to avoid the worst of the utility regulation,” Hillary Clinton said.

She said President Obama was “right” on the issue.

“It’s a foot in the door, it’s a value statement, I think the president is right to be upfront and out front on that.”

“It’s a foot in the door …”.

To understand her and the left’s mindset, that’s really all of the quote you need to read and understand.  The exponential expansion of government power with her and her ilk at the helm.

A pretend problem (that no one was complaining about) and the usual solution (of which 61% disapprove according to the most recent poll I’ve seen).  I.e. more government, more rules, more power and more powerbrokering.  It’s another beachhead on the sands of freedom.  An unelected commission just took over one of the largest and most innovative entrepreneurial engines we’ve ever seen and has decided to impose 20th century utility regulations on it by fiat.

And the gutless GOP Congress?  Well, just like immigration, DHS, and ObamaCare … they’ll talk about it, stick their fingers in the air, monitor a hostile press and in the end … well, look where we are and figure it out for yourself.

  • Had to do something – the net isn’t working out to be the bastion of progressive-ism that the 4th estate is today.
Remember them desperately trying to classify what is and is not a legitimate journalist just within the last year.
This will give them added weight to make that definition, and frankly remove people like QandO from the equation unless you are toeing the line to their satisfaction.

We protected the millennials too well and gave them too much.

  • Comcast is going to get its merger with TWC out of it. Anti-competition forces on both sides score another victory.

    • Apparently Google had a hand in writing the regs.

      • Considering the FCC Board is pretty much an all Obama appointed Media Industry Crony-fest, none of what you could call consumer oriented benefits which have been implied but never actually promised will materialize. Don’t believe for a second that a major industry that pipes freighters of money to Hollywood is hurt by anything that happened.

Basically my guess what should be the death of old television which would have been gone in a generation will likely be prevented one way or another. Keeping monopoly empowered ISP’s from screwing with Internet television (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) is what should have been done. But consider when you pay for TV how much crap you don’t watch that you pay for and how much political swill you have to watch and most I can’t stomach. It’s essentially a massive money maker for leftist propagandizing Hollywood and we all support it. Streaming TV, if it replaced old TV would essentially be “a la carte”. You pay for what you want. Not only do you not pay for dog shows on some channel you don’t watch. If something is a bunch of political tripe, you can vote with your wallet. Try that with traditional Cable TV.

Google “implied” they would be able to make Google fiber available in more places to help sell it.

      • Google owns YouTube.

Google also owns Google Fiber. Let’s see if they keep rolling that out or not.

  • Think of it as a “Fairness Doctrine” for the internet.

  • “This is no more a plan to regulate the Internet than the First Amendment is a plan to regulate free speech. They both stand for the same concepts: openness, expression, and an absence of gate keepers telling people what they can do, where they can go, and what they can think.”

    Yeah, no. Pure horseshit.

“This is no more a plan to regulate the Internet than the First Amendment is a plan to regulate free speech. They both stand for the same concepts: openness, expression, and an absence of gate keepers telling people what they can do, where they can go, and what they can think.”

IF it was for “openness”, why was it kept in secret from the PEOPLE?

IF there was to be “an absence of gate keepers”, WHY did Wheeler refuse to come before the PEOPLE’s representatives in Congress to answer questions?

Why is there even an FCC? (I know all the rationalizations, so don’t nobody need to puke them back at me.)

  • We’ve been a Banana Republic for awhile now. “We’ll punish our enemies,” with the IRS of course. Money being the lifeblood of politics, when you restrict your opposition’s ability to raise funds, you have essentially stolen the election – never mind the mundane voting theft/fraud. When they can apply the full weight of the federal government via its varied acronyms (EEOC, OSHA, HIPAA, EPA, and on and on…) against their political opponents, dissent disappears.

There is no medical office in this nation that is compliant with the myriad laws and regulations – it’s not possible. So who enforces the ACA requirements? The IRS of course! And how do they decide which offices to target? Rhetorical question…

As for OSHA – we know of an office who was cited for not having a Materials Data Sheet (MDS) for the White Out on the front office counter. HIPAA? Have you ever seen the name of another patient on a chart / computer screen / x-ray or lab report/specimen or blood sample in any physicians’ office you have visited? All are violations.

Tried to purchase a multi-fuel generator awhile back. The process took nearly 18 months. Seems the owners of said company were big Republican donors. The powers that be apparently found out, so the EPA kept ‘moving the goalposts’ in regard to emissions standards on said units. And we all know the Martin Guitar story.

  • The FCC is required to make all proposals public 30 days prior to any vote.
Even now, after the vote, it is still not public.

There is some sort of smoke and mirrors obfuscation going on here, as this appears headed for a certain defeat in the courts.

  • And despite her husband’s administration not taking such action, Clinton suggested the Internet had developed in such a way that something needed to be changed.

    >>>> Yup. Conservatives can actually use it and have a voice. Gotta squash that ASAP

    • Also, too much of “…dat free trade goin’ on ou-ed dar”, to paraphrase the late Sen. Fritz Hollins.

The Feds can’t have you trading with people all over the world. You might do something like buy a 7 gallon toilet, or some other crime.
