One Response to Observations: The QandO Podcast for 18 Dec 15

  • I think the conundrum of the government forgiving debt to itself is simply we found a new way for the government to print money.

Normally the consequence of that would be over-stimulation of the economy. But so should of 10 or 20 or so years of half a trillion to a trillion dollars of deficit spending. Imho, that stimulation has been offset by the black hole that is our trade deficit. Our trade deficit is actually much larger than the numbers say because the money borrowed which gets injected into the economy is counted against the trade deficit. We’ve been building up other’s economies at the expense of our own and delaying the normal consequences.
