Observations: The QandO Podcast for 29 Jul 16

The Republicans have turned from a conservative party to a party of white grievance, much as the Democrats are a party of minority grievance. Google searches are fun. There sure is a lot of porn on the internet. The Coen Brothers make interesting movies. Radio is dead.

This week’s podcast is up on the Podcast page.

  • “+1” to add strippers to the podcast.
If you can get Elisabeth Sue to strip, I’d start paying a subscription.

  • First, remember it’s “CITIZENS UNITED v. FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION” not Hillary Clinton but a misuse of the FEC.

    Second, from the opinion:

When word concerning the plot of the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington reached the circles of Government, some officials sought, by persuasion, to discourage its distribution.

Some members of the public might consider Hillary to be insightful and instructive; some might find it to be neither high art nor a fair discussion on how to set the Nation’s course; still others simply might suspend judgment on these points but decide to think more about issues and candidates. Those choices and assessments, however, are not for the Government to make.

  • Per your discussion about changing people’s opinions, etc. through the blog; thought you guys would like to know this. I found qando back in I think 2005 or 2007, during one of the gaza wars when I was on my way from being a lifelong, knee-jerk Democrat to the horrifying conservatarian I am today. And one of the critical turning points for me was that on all my typical web sites the commentary seemed insane – portraying Israel as the evil aggressor, ignoring rockets deliberately fired on civilians and the use of human shields, etc. And I followed a random link (from Ann Marie Cox’s site which I can no longer remember, funnily enough) to your site, and was like, “wow, these guys finally sound sane.” And it helped me open up to looking at points of view I’d previously just assumed were throwback old white guy stuff. So yeah, you have played a role in changing hearts and minds. 🙂 My poor Democrat father is, of course, completely horrified that his two kids voted for McCain and Romney, so not everyone is pleased with your results…
