Lyin Ryan Lochte – What’s the big deal?

Heh – big hullabaloo, American gold medal winning swimmer tells a lie.

Ryan Lochte – “champion swimmer caught in a rip-tide of self absorption”, ” telling a fraudulent tale late night robbery”, facing indictment for fraudulent police reports. “The behavior of these athletes is not acceptable, nor does it represent the values of Team USA or the conduct of the vast majority of its members,”

How upsetting!

I’m going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” – William Jefferson Clinton, 42nd President of the United States.

I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”  Hillary Clinton, Bosnia visit.

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. ”  – Hillary Clinton – Benghazi embassy attack

Extremists and terrorists used this as an excuse to attack a variety of our embassies, including the consulate in Libya. As offensive as this video was and, obviously, we’ve denounced it and the United States government had nothing to do with it. That’s never an excuse for violence.” – Barack Obama – Benghazi embassy attack

I’m proud of my Native American heritage” – Senator Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts

Apparently, lawyers, somewhere in the halls of the Justice Department whose identities are unknown to this Court, decided unilaterally that the conduct of the DHS in granting three-year DACA renewals . . . was immaterial and irrelevant to this lawsuit and that the DOJ could therefore just ignore it. Then, for whatever reason, the Justice Department trial lawyers appearing in this Court chose not to tell the truth about this DHS activity. The first decision was certainly unsupportable, but the subsequent decision to hide it from the Court was unethical.” – State of Texas vs United States of America – DACA

“I did see President Clinton at the Phoenix airport as he was leaving and spoke to myself and my husband on the plane, our conversation was a great deal about grandchildren, it was primarily social about our travels and he mentioned golf he played in Phoenix.” – Loretta Lynch, Attorney General of the United States concerning a ‘chance’ meeting with Bill Clinton the day before Hillary Clinton Email server investigation is concluded.

eh, I’ll stop there, there’s more than enough left unmentioned to fill Hillary’s completely ethical and legal email server disks to overflowing.

So, what’s the problem with Lochte and his behavior? Why the big deal?

I’m assuming Lochte is just getting some street cred and experience for an eventual run for political office as a member of the Democratic party sometime in the future.

and I’m assuming whatever he runs for, he’ll get elected.

  • Lochte actually faced potential consequences, be they overblown as a retaliation against embarrassing Brazil internationally. Facing consequences is news to these people.

    • Guess we’ll see.
      Lochte is “on our team”.
That’s all that seems to matter to about half the country.

    • Really though JP despite my sarcasm, I agree

Lochte might actually suffer consequences as you note, and while what he did was wrong, it was pretty trivial compared to the lies I highlighted.

Yet I’m easily able to tick off the above lies, told by the senior senior level officials of my government, without even having to think very hard about it.
and the cohort of lies told but left un-named are actually, as they say, legion.

It’s not an outlier any more, it’s a day to day quality of our leadership.

  • “What’s the problem?” you ask? As an Olympic athlete Lochte is an amateur. He is not qualified for that level of dishonesty. He should confine himself to the usual low-level dishonesty found in sports until he builds up enough experience and credibility to turn pro.

  • One of the drawbacks of doing away with the nobility that our founding fathers did not see; we still have the noblesse, but not the oblige.

    • Well, but back then, being known as “Liar in Chief” actually meant you probably weren’t going to be very successful at much of anything that involved interactions, and trust, with others.

  • I don’t know what others may say, but as for me, when someone points a gun at me and demands money before I’m free to go, or takes my passport and demands a ‘donation’ before I get my passport back, I call that extortion….feel free to substitute ‘robbery’ for extortion.

    • We don’t PAY ransom! it’s a donation. So, make a donation, and you’ll get your passport back! Simple!

Don’t ask why what wasn’t ransom to Iran had to be paid in pallets of cash, instead of through traceable international wire funds transfers, from and to various banks.
There’s probably some anti-TERROR laws that were violated in that transaction, because only terrorists or drug dealers would be moving that volume of currency around 🙂

  • This story has it all.
First, there is damage by the swimmers.
People tell them to stop, as they try to leave in a taxi.
Surveillance video goes blank for 3 minutes as security guard points gun at them, while they wait to the “fake” police to come.
They give them $120 to $400+.
Swimmers return to Olympic village, say they were robbed by “fake” police.

Yeah. It started out pretty stupid, but the locals didn’t come off looking like the “good” guys either.

  • Lochte was the smartest guy in the group – when it looked to go pear-shaped he hightailed it outta there, left his friends to deal with the mess!

  • Once, a drug dealer who I was instructing very pointedly to get away from the entrance to my building in Manhattan, acted like he was about to draw a weapon on me. I said to him immediately, “You have a weapon? Take it out. I’ll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and blow your brains out.”

    But I’m no Olympic swimmer.

  • The big deal is a corrupt press that not just enable lies, dishonesty and betrayal, but actively encourage it.

    • IMNHO – all of it should be a huge deal – there’s no honor in any of it, no shame in having none, and absolutely no intention to punish any of them.

It’s like watching the whole country act like New England Patriot fans or Ted Kennedy voters.
There’s probably a reason the two sets of people are nearly congruent.
      Madness and ruin.

    • CBS reports that Hillary will be making a speech today, where she will introduce the latest version of the VRWC .. Alt-Right

Weren’t we told by Clinton surrogates that it would be Trump spreading the stories of conspiracy theories. Instead, it will be Hillary spreading conspiracies.

Then CBS when on the describe your standard Aryian nation hate group as Alt-Right, a group I’ve never heard of.

Where comes the next manifestation of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
