Obama’s "I didn’t raise taxes once" falsehood
Wow … it has to be a pretty bald-faced lie when Obama can’t even get PolitiFact to cover for him:
In an interview on Super Bowl Sunday, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly asked President Barack Obama to react to a Wall Street Journal editorial that accused Obama of being "a determined man of the left whose goal is to redistribute much larger levels of income across society.""Do you deny that you are a man who wants to redistribute wealth?" O’Reilly asked.
Obama first noted the conservatism of the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, then denied the charge "absolutely."
"I didn’t raise taxes once. I lowered taxes over the last two years," Obama said.
And to deny his claim so emphatically:
The idea that Obama did not raise taxes is just plain wrong. He signed legislation raising taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products soon after taking office; that money goes to pay for children’s health insurance programs. The law went into effect in 2009. He also signed the health care law, which includes taxes on indoor tanning that went into effect last year. (Regular PolitiFact readers will remember our fact-check of reality TV star Snooki and her complaint about the new tax last year.)
The new health care law also includes a tax on people who decide not to have health insurance, as an incentive for them to get coverage. The tax phases in gradually, starting in 2014. By 2016, the tax would be $695 per uninsured person up to a maximum of three times that amount, or $2,085. The law includes exemptions for people who can’t find affordable insurance, and a few other special circumstances.
More significantly, the health care law includes new taxes on the wealthy, starting in 2013. Individuals who make more than $200,000 and couples that make more than $250,000 will see additional Medicare taxes of 0.9 percent. They will also, for the first time, have to pay Medicare taxes on their investment income at a 3.8 percent rate. (Current law is that all workers and employers split a 2.9 percent Medicare tax; the self-employed pay all of it.)
Then, of course, there’s the tax increase that failed. Although he can’t be held responsible for the failure to enact it (the increase in taxes on “the rich”) it certainly wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Like I’ve said repeatedly, Obama has a real disadvantage this next election cycle – he actually has to run on a record for a change. And nonsense like this should and will be consistently confronted and shot down.
Not good for the image, Mr. Obama.
~McQ

He opened his mouth. Ergo; lies.
Just FYI, you will find all over the moonbat-O-sphere the meme that taxes are at their lowest point evah…which is (like most Collectivist things) a lie, but you have to understand reality to see the lie. So, it works for much of America.
It’s the big lie theory Rags, just keep saying things enough, and they come “true”. The lies are legion.
If most of America doesn’t see it, it’s because the Make Believe Media is so busy “making believe”.
Here’s hoping they push that meme with everything they’ve got. They will alienate anyone who actually lives in the real world and pays taxes.
Coupled with “global warming is causing half the world to freeze to death”, the left stands vividly exposed as the post-modern, reality-detached idiots they are.
Well, then there is the fact that…should the economy ACTUALLY improve…the same forces at play would make taxes skyrocket…!!!
SO much fun, watching a guy who knows NOTHING while supposed to know EVERYTHING flounder around.
Trouble is…the world is swirling ever faster…
Here’s hoping they push that meme with everything they’ve got. They will alienate anyone who actually lives in the real world and pays taxes.
That would be a lot of hope.
Tobacco taxes – A few pennies more for a pack of cigarettes that already costs over $5 a pack will have little impact as tobacco users are diminishing and state and local taxes on tobacco play a large role in the price.
Indoor tanning – Who the f*ck cares? The handful of people who do it and and would actually consider that in a presidential election? Not many, I would assume.
Health care tax – A gradual tax that doesn’t even begin until after the election. Even then, effecting only those who make lots of money. Not really Obama’s base, wouldn’t you agree?
Did Obama raise taxes? Yes.
Is Billy’s hope that this will alienate voters enough to boot him out of office amounts to pie in the sky? Yes.
Cheers.
I think you missed Billy’s point. Or I did.
The point was not that taxes would alienate, but rather the obvious lie about the taxes. If you can’t trust the president with well known facts, what can you trust him with?
You didn’t miss it.
Pingback: Obama’s "I didn’t raise taxes once" falsehood | Liberal Whoppers
I really do believe that he believes he hasn’t raise taxes .. the idiot
Do liberals really lie, or are they mentally incapable of knowing with the truth is?
Neither.
Epistemologically, as post-modernists, they reject there is any such thing as objective truth. Hence, “truth” is what they want it to be, when they want it to be.
Thomas Sowell refers to it as the “Conflict of Visions”, and the “Vision of the Anointed”.
You’re reading it wrong:
“I didn’t raise taxes once.”
The statement is truthful.
He raised taxes thrice or quadruple times.
Every Liberal law shoved through Congress and down our throats is a tax.
Socialized medicine is a great example, but lets look at another:
E-15 Ethanol alone is going to croak more families than anyone can even speculate. It’s going to make everything you buy cost more not only because of higher transportation costs, but from the food shortages taxpayer subsidized corn production causes and crops not planted so corporate farmers can concentrate on that very same subsidized corn. Don’t forget, every gas powered device you own will burn more fuel pollute more and break down more often because of the corrosiveness and hydroscopic nature (water absorption qualities) of alcohol. It takes 1.25 gallons of gas and 1,700 gallons of water to make one gallon of ethanol.
Don’t forget, this is all to keep the planet from WARMING! don’t you know?
Someone needs to prod these A$$holes: Mission Accomplished!
So I ask all of you: Is our Government totally insane? Are they just trying to make us that way? Or is this typical Liberal Self-Hatred transposed onto the rest of us.
