War Powers undermined some of it. This strikes me as the logical destination, given the leader we’re talking about, of where the War Powers act could take you. Isn’t it odd how we seem to get into these things under Democrats more often than Republicans? Another narrative the Democrats would prefer to avoid. When you’re attacked or have to move fast to protect the national interest, I understand the CinC has to make decisions that require quick action. Now, explain to me why 1 year into Assad slaughtering Syrians we have to have quick action. Then explain to me what interests we’re defending ourselves from/against/for, in Syria.

As to the idea that International authority has any say over the deployment or use of American forces – BULLSPIT. Someone needs to go read some history to see how hard we worked NOT to be under European/Foreign command any time we’ve engaged enemies across the world. If their governments can commit us, we might as well be a vassal state like Rhenish Hesse.

The War Powers Act still gets its basic authorization form the US Constitution but the current Obama regime has already shown its disdain for that antiquated rag. Obama has begun to elevate the power of the Office of the Presidency to that of a King. He has already stated more than once his willingness to bypass Congress and rule by edict, executive order. So to go to this extension is natural from his perspective. Re-elect the man and then see just how far his kingly powers will extend!
