Obama’s car czar: Administration essentially has no energy policy

Steve Ratner, Obama’s former "car czar" blurts out something we’ve been trying to point out for quite some time:

“All of the above” isn’t a policy, it’s an attempt to avoid criticism in an election year.

McQ, I think Obama DOES have an energy policy. It is consistent with the misanthropic views of several of his czars and his mentors. It is a policy of decline and moon pony engineering, along with privation for us prols.

Every dollar of tax preference for non-hydro renewables produces 407,000 BTUs of energy, while every dollar of tax preference for fossil fuel delivers 66 times as much, 27 million BTUs of energy. Nuclear power subsidies—only 4 percent of total tax preferences—produce almost 26 times more energy per dollar than renewables. This is the reason renewable subsidies are both necessary to the industry, and unsustainable, at least at any scale that the taxpayer would be willing to pay. For renewables to match the output of fossil fuels at the current tax preference rate, the total tax preference would need to be $897 billion. That’s probably real money even to Obama.

@Neo_ “at least at any scale that the taxpayer would be willing to pay. ” Screw the taxpayer, we’re doing this because it’s good for Gaia, and Obama’s bundlers, and if they taxpayer doesn’t like it, they can….oh, they can shut up and do as they’re told or we’ll put liens on their property.

Essentially, the entire renewables scheme, except wind, revolves around the direct capture and converting Sun light.
The best of these renewables, photovoltaics are now about 10% efficient, while renewables based are photosynthesis are bounded by the 4% efficiency of that process.

I would be happy if the Fed govt did not have an “energy policy”. I think we would be much better off. Get out of the way of the makers and things will turn out ok.

  • Neo_ says:

I find it so odd that the DOE has a $26-29 billion budget, about 1% of the federal budget, and this what Obama is making the center of his campaign.

How long before the dems are saying they tried to promote a National Energy Policy with Cap & Trade but the Republicans blocked it?
