Quote of the Day: But remember, blacks can’t be racist edition
If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times – blacks can’t be "racists". Supposedly its because they "don’t have the power" to be racist. A key redefinition of a word that in reality has zip to do with who holds power. It’s an attitude. A belief in the superiority of one race over the other. But that’s now how many try to define it today.
So, given the new definition of racism, what former DC mayor and present DC Council person Marion Barry says here isn’t racist or racially motivated … got it? You can ask Al Sharpton, he’ll back him up.
“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said in remarks first reported by WRC-TV. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”
Celebrate diversity and racial healing, ya’ll.

What we get for affirmative action and tolerating criminal behavior based on race are black liberation theology and critical race theory. The new black panthers can intimidate white voter with impunity. Any non black who dares defend himself will condemned the press and smeared mercilessly. In retaliation, a 52 year old white man is on life support after being attacked by black teens with a hammer.
In the black community, what passes for “leadership” are aging crackheads, race mongering extortionists and a congressional black caucus who have descended into self parody.
@Arco Beware of over-generalizing. I hope each of us can think of many examples of Black people we know who don’t fit what you wrote. If you can’t, I have some I can point you to. What’s too bad is that your generalities have so much validity. I’m really looking forward to that race card being worn out.
@Ragspierre. Respectfully disagree that I’m over-generalizing. I too can think of upstanding black Americans (e.g., Chappie James, Fig Newton, Alan West) who are rejected by blacks. Today, the black civil rights establishment condemns any black who is conservative or who supports rule of law. Look at how they treat Condie Rice, Thomas Sowell and Justice Clarence Thomas. BLT and CRT are both publicly accepted by Barack Obama. Eric Holder dismissed the charges against the New Black Panthers. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are race pimps. Neither of them is willing to get the facts about the Trayvon shooting before pronouncing him guilty. The CBC passed a resolution also demanding the arrest of George Zimmerman, facts be damned. No one is more disgusted with the race card than I, however, I’m getting the feeling that tolerating unacceptable behavior by blacks is encouraging the behavior to continue. My criticisms of Zimmerman are three: (1) He waited too long to shoot, (2) He only shot once. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice, and (3) He didn’t use enough gun such as a 40 S&W or a 45 ACP.

Yes, I’ve heard that too. Usually I hear it in conservative arguments as the anti-thesis of “blacks can be racists too”—which I think is what the author is getting at—but that argument is just used as a distraction for the real problem. Characteristically, conservatives deny that they are racialists—in their pseudo belief in ‘equality for all’. It’s sort of like the conservative retort of the 60′s—”I’m not prejudice, some of my best friend are Negroes”.

@DocD Still, you make a good point, he’s completely skipped the issue of Barry’s comments, I don’t think he’d rush to condemn Sharpton for doing something akin to it. However, if we were to COMMENT on those comments, well, THAT would indicate we’re racists because, well, we’re clearly a nest of conservatives.

@tadcf You must be referring to the larger majority of Republicans than Democrats who voted in favor of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, overcoming filibusters by the likes of Robert “KKK” Byrd (D) and friends? Or the Democratic Party governors of Mississippi, Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, etc… who swore that those icky Negroes would never be integrated into the public school system? Or maybe you are thinking about the KKK, Jim Crow laws, disenfranchisment laws, etc… of the Democratic Party South ? You might even be referring to the disaster of Detroit which has been under Democratic Party control since the early 60s and we know how well that turned out. Because if you aren’t, then I cannot figure why you accuse conservatives of being racists.

I actually was around during the ’60′s, and I never heard that phrase from anyone, left or right. I read about it, probably in the same leftish publications you evidently bury your self in.You should take your own advice and get out more. Furthermore, if our (I think I can speak for most of those here) opinion of CNN (and other publications, networks, etc.)is bad it is because we have actually read/watched/listened to them.
What happened to black pride? There was a time when black people didn’t settle for failures like Obama; they expected more from blacks who were blessed to get the opportunity for greatness. Whether it was sports, entertainment, or politics, blacks who were set up for something transcendental carried the expectation of the entire black race on their shoulders. Much was riding on his or her success, regardless of the role.

“There was a time….”————–Ah, yes, ‘The Good Old Days’. Color me skeptical. I am old enough now to have learned that all those good times I read about and lived through weren’t and I am pretty sure the ‘good old days’ I didn’t experience are just as overrated.
