About spiking the bin Laden football

This does an adequate job of saying what needs to be said:

“Unseemly” describes it best. But when the rest of your record is so abysmal, unseemly is all you have.

As for the rest of it:

The truth is that getting bin Laden was the top counterterrorism objective for U.S. intelligence since well before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. This administration built on work painstakingly pursued for many years before Obama was elected — and without this work, Obama administration officials never would have been in a position to authorize the strike on Abbottabad, Pakistan, that resulted in bin Laden’s overdue death.

Most reasonable people have already figured that out despite the “look I did it” claims of Obama.  Critics can trash Mitt  Romney all they want, but he was right – even Jimmy Carter would have made the call Obama made.  And, had the operation gone wrong, despite what Bill Clinton says, the target would never have been known (until possibly, much, much later).  America would have simply believed that one of hundreds of special operations that were conducted monthly, had gone south.  It is war.  It happens.

And, of course, what was the concern from Clinton?  Politics, of course.  Nothing more, nothing less.

“Gutsy”.

What a total bucket of puke. After yesterday’s little set-piece, I am left utterly disgusted. “Lower” seems like an impossible Obama goal…yet I have every confidence…

  • Neo_ says:

Clinton: “Suppose the Navy Seals had gone in there, suppose they had been captured or killed. The downside would have been horrible for him”.

For him ? It’s always about him.
    I feel your narcissism.

    • looker says:

@Neo_ wasn’t that a special moment in history? How horrible it would have been for Baracka!, the guys from Seal Team 6 on the ground? well, okay, it might have been horrible for them too, but, after all, THEY weren’t going to have to run for re-election, you know?

  • looker says:

Yeah, he’s Henry the V all right – “he’ll remember, WITH ADVANTAGES, what feats he did that day”.

  • The Shark says:

What a piece of trash. I guess all of a sudden, this is one thing he didn’t inherit from Bush. Funny thing that.

  • timactual says:

Perhaps while he is over there he can drop in on Pakistan and use some of that political brilliance and foreign policy expertise to get them to reopen the supply line Pakistan cut off after that other incident (which I assume he also approved) that went wrong last year.

    • looker says:

@timactual You’re right, I see this as one of those “sea stopped rising” moments where he walks upon the waters and calms the storms…ah, Slight problem, there’s no O in Pakistan or the word PEACE. How can we use that as a campaign prop without an O to put the Obama logo in? Would it be easier to start a war with Togo? we could probably win that one pretty quick, you know, days, not weeks and all that.

      • Ragspierre says:

@looker Such a cynical, nattering nelly! He had to beat feet back here to create jobs and energy. What do you WANT from this poor man…???? Geez. Watch and learn, why doncha…

        • looker says:

@Ragspierre ‘create jobs and energy.” I hope he creates more this month than he did last month! all those campaign stops only resulted in 119k new jobs in April, and that’s just not going to cut it! I realize the Republicans, and the weather, and possibly that tremendous solar flare probably caused the ‘unexpectedly’ low increase, but he’s got to get going! Forward! Forward! (we should dig deeper into his family history, it’s entirely possible he’s related to Feld Marshal von Blucher of the Prussian Imperial Army)

        • Ragspierre says:

@looker Or maybe Frau Blucher of the Young Frankenstein. Naaaaahhhh…

Don’t forget, we had the Seal Team loaded and ready to go because we had a definite bead on Osama mid-way through the war, when Rumsfield had the stand down because it was to politically risky. In 2007, Mit Romney also said it wouldn’t be a good idea to go into Pakistan.  Conservative chicken-hawks.

    • Politically risky or tactically risky. You have no idea do you?

      • looker says:

Damn, you’re less credible than Erb even….
” In 2007, Mit Romney also said it wouldn’t be a good idea to go into Pakistan.  Conservative chicken-hawks.”
“It’s wrong for a person running for president of the United States to get on TV and say we’re going to go into your country unilaterally. Of course America always maintains our option to do whatever we think is in the best interest of America. But we don’t go out and say “ladies and gentleman of Germany, if ever there was a problem in your country [and] we didn’t think you were doing the right thing, we reserve the right to come in and get them out”. We don’t say those things, we keep our options quiet.”

There’s a citation for you Marine sparky, you got one that proves YOUR contention that he said what you claim he said?
“You don’t come here for the hunting do you”.

      • tadcf says:

Probably a better idea that you could ever imagine.  Tactically risky is often use as an excuse for politically risky—especially when many of  the neo-conservatives at the time had the character of  war-dodgers.

        • DocD says:

Channeling the ghost of John Kerry? Oh wait, John Kerry isn’t dead… Is this actually John Kerry??

        • Really? Cause you’re such an expert on warfare, having been a Marine and all.

          • tadcf says:

And what are your war credentials?

          • 28 years in the Army as an infantry officer. And yours?

          • tadcf says:

And I bet you’re proud of your service to you country—regardless of whether or not you served in war.  The main difference between you and me is that I would never sarcastically denigrate your service—”…having been a Marine and all.”

          • No one was denigrating your service, what was being denigrated was using your service as some sort of validation of your opinion. When you offer up silly stuff, having been a Marine doesn’t make it any less silly.

        • looker says:

little dog, you really ARE on the wrong porch here, but have at it.

    • And, btw, the raid you’re talking about had zip to do with Osama.

      • tadcf says:

This is only half-true.  Since Ayman Al Zawahiri and other senior Al Qaeda leaders were going to be there, there was some consideration that Osama bin Laden would be in the bunch too.

        • tadcf says:

I forgot to add, “Nevertheless, like at Tora Bora, Rumsfield chickened-out here too.”

        • It’s not half true … they didn’t expect Osama to be there … period. So keep trying to make this something it isn’t.

    • Ragspierre says:

If and when the Romney campaign and certain elements of the GOP can stop shooting themselves in the foot over gay spokespersons that is.

      Citation…in context…please.  You lying POS.

      • Ragspierre says:

        Rapid posting leads to errors…
        Me, at 6:16…should have quoted…

In 2007, Mit Romney also said it wouldn’t be a good idea to go into Pakistan.  Conservative chicken-hawks.

Forget who, but someone noted that Obama had successfully Swiftboated himself.  Heh!
