Free Markets, Free People

Were American’s misled about the cost of ObamaCare?

Does a duck quack? Of course they were. Were politicians pushing an agenda involved? That’s a rhetorical question:

And yes, we told you so.

As Thomas Sowell pointed out, and I’m paraphrasing, how anyone thought that adding a layer of bureaucracy and regulation to the current system was going to drive costs down was beyond him.

And it was beyond most people who have even a modicum of common sense.

Medical claims costs — the biggest driver of health insurance premiums — will jump an average 32 percent for Americans’ individual policies under President Obama’s overhaul, according to a study by the nation’s leading group of financial risk analysts.

The report could turn into a big headache for the Obama administration at a time when many parts of the country remain skeptical about the Affordable Care Act. The estimates were recently released by the Society of Actuaries to its members.

While some states will see medical claims costs per person decline, the report concluded the overwhelming majority will see double-digit increases in their individual health insurance markets, where people purchase coverage directly from insurers.

The disparities are striking. By 2017, the estimated increase would be 62 percent for California, about 80 percent for Ohio, more than 20 percent for Florida and 67 percent for Maryland. Much of the reason for the higher claims costs is that sicker people are expected to join the pool, the report said.

Well done, Democrats — well done.

  • The actual smart people predicted all this.
It was the duped and the liars who told people otherwise.  Well, and the economically clueless.
Erp…???  Wanna speak up for your Collective?

    • Oh, oh, I know, I know!  They’ll be ‘punished’.    Some of them will be forced to retire on their government salary, exempt from the healthcare rules they created for us, and take up jobs as lobbyists in DC after cashing in on investments made in areas they passed legislation on.

That, you see, is called punishment.  It will be AWFUL for them, just awful!

Meanwhile, if the voters vote to take your things away and give them to themselves, that’s ‘freedom’ under democracy, suck on it you inbred sterile last century founder worshiping hasbeens!

    • It was Bwaney Fwank who stated openly back in 2007 or so, “we will overwhelm them (the opposition read: conservatives) with so much B.S. they will simply give up and do what we want in the end.” Cloward – Piven in so many words. The power of the purse resides with Congress, defund Socialized Medicine, murder it in the cradle.

  • If I pay less due to a taxpayer subsidy, won’t my taxes go up to pay for that subsidy? Has anyone asked the folks with catastrophic coverage if they prefer that coverage instead of a full package including aromatherapy, acupuncture, etc..? How is competition amongst providers going to lower rates when the plans are filled with government mandated coverages?

  • The other ‘fun’ question is, “If you are forced to buy my product then why should I be reasonable about the price?”

    • Or CARE about what you think.
Funny how the Collective is so in love with monopoly…

      • Funny how the Collective is so in love with monopoly…
Only if the monopoly is government.  None of those evil, nasty corporatists, though!  (The Benevolent Government will be the only player by time there’s a monopoly in the health insurance game)

        • The only monopoly IS a GOVERNMENT monopoly, either through market regulation/restrictions or barriers to entry.

          • Yep.  The only kind that lasts long enough for the water to get hot, anyhow!

  • When Obamacare was passing the Senate and House, I had a rather hot debate on it with my MiL. When I told her it would raise costs, she claimed it wouldn’t, citing Obama’s claims as if they were facts.

  • I’m not sure they care all that much. The point of Obamacare was to destroy our system, which was itself set up by Democrats. The end goal is socialism, Obamacare is but a step on the path towards that. The risk they face is that Obamacare could destroy people’s trust in Democrats and Obama, if it fails too quickly and obviously. But that risk is mitigated by the lefts control of the media and universities, lies and spin will be churned out to defend Obama and Democrats from all their failures. So far that has actully worked.
