  • The claim that Egypt’s military stayed out of politics while Mubarak was in power is incorrect.
    Mubarak was an ex-general. Sadat was an air-force general. Nasser was a general. You get the idea.
    They may take off the uniform, but that’s just for appearances.

  • I should have mentioned, that comment is more in general (ha!) response to Michael who seemed to be suggesting the military was “hands off.”
     

  • I only meant in the current situation (although I may have muddled that during the podcast).

  • I think that will change soon enough. There was a window for everyone to sort of calm down and do a do-over. With the Islamists now out, totally, I don’t think further elections would be useful. What if they win again? So the military will have to keep in control and rig the elections.
