Roosting chickens and Obama

Michael Goodwin at the NY Post writes up a pretty damning summary of Barack Obama’s time in office as President of the United States. One of the primary criticisms of candidate Obama was that he’d never really done anything of note. He’d never run a company or tried to meet a payroll, deal with government regulations, etc. He was, critics cautioned, a politically driven empty suit. Even his experience in politics was minimal. Every political office he held he used as a platform to run for the next highest office, accomplishing little or nothing at each stop.

Those are his “chickens” and they’re certainly coming home to roost:

Obama’s sixth year in the White House is shaping up as his worst, and that’s saying something. He’s been in the Oval Office so long that it is obscene to blame his problems on George W. Bush, the weather or racism. Obama owns the world he made, or more accurately, the world he tried to remake.

Nothing important has worked as promised, and there is every reason to believe the worst is yet to come. The president’s casual remark the other day that he worries about “a nuclear weapon going off in Manhattan” inadvertently reflected the fear millions of Americans have about his leadership. Not necessarily about a bomb, but about where he is taking the country.

Anyone who looks objectively at these past 6 years has difficulty in saying anything good about the time this administration has been in power. The lack of real governing experience has left us adrift in a hostile world:

The view from his faculty lounge has no space for reality. Anything that doesn’t fit the grand plan is dismissed as illegitimate. So while global hot spots multiply and the world grows dangerously unstable, the president still plans to slash the military.

Government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and EITC lose hundreds of billions to waste, fraud and abuse, but this administration chooses to balance the budget on the backs of the only institution that is Constitutionally mandated for the defense of the country during a time of extreme danger. Cognitive dissonance of the highest order.

And his “legacy” piece of legislation, forced through the Democratically controlled congress in the face of popular protest, has been a dismal failure to this point:

ObamaCare is the domestic expression of the president’s ineptitude. The law that was supposed to fix health care has become a problem for millions, and now enjoys mere 26 percent approval, a poll finds. It is proving so unworkable that the White House has given up defending it as written and instead simply changes key provisions when they prove impossible to implement or politically inconvenient.

Change No. 38 came when officials extended the March 31 deadline for signing up. Never mind that those same officials said recently there would be no extension, and that the law wouldn’t allow it.

Presto — the limits on his power are moot because the president says so. Meanwhile, aides claim they don’t know how many of the 6 million who enrolled actually paid for insurance..

Perhaps the most damning quote from Goodwin’s piece is this one which succinctly sums up the Obama experience thus far:

A Caesar at home and a Chamberlain abroad, Obama manages to simultaneously provoke fury and ridicule. He bullies critics here while shrinking from adversaries there.

He divides the country and unites the world against us, diminishing the nation in both ways. His reign of error can’t end soon enough, nor can it end well.

The country must weather a little over 2 more years of this awful presidency and hope it survives it somehow. If it survives it, one has to hope that upon reflection, the voters will realize that electing a president isn’t a beauty contest nor is it a venue within which to make a social statement. “The first” this or that are not as important as the ability of the candidate to govern competently. And, it is is certainly not a position in which the incumbent should be engaged in “on the job training”.

Hopefully these lessons have been learned and, in 2016, we’ll see a resurgence of common sense among the voting public.

Yeah, and pigs will fly.

  • I could wish that Obama’s sh!t was hurting him nearly as badly as it hurts and will hurt the rest of us, not least of which are our military people.

    They aren’t. And they won’t.

    • Nope, he’s going to get off at the ‘rich folks’ stop, step off the train and wave goodbye to the rest of us on the trip he layed out to Crapholia. Money can buy immunity, for a while anyway.

    • My one consolation is that Obama is hurting those who voted for him pretty badly. Lets see who learns their lesson.

If you’re stupid enough to vote for Obama, you’re stupid enough to believe the Democrat propagandists (including the mainstream media) when they blame their usual scapegoats.
By the time things get so bad that even the dim-witted Democrat voters take notice, it will be too late. Even Erb, as dense as he is about most things, shows glee that we’re ass deep in the tar pit of Obama(Doesn’t)Care, too far in to extricate ourselves. He understands the concept of politically burning bridges, even if he’s too dumb to realize that his nanny-nanny-boo-boo we beat the Republicans cheer doesn’t mean the Unaffordable Care Act will do anything but crash and burn.

If karma existed, Scott would get an extremely painful, debilitating illness for which he would pay through the nose in deductibles only to have to travel 500 miles to be on a long waiting list for a fourth-rate doctor who got his degree in some banana republic.

  • The ‘NY Post’ article didn’t say enough. We really do have a criminal president. His DOJ is a sham. His IRS is a tool to be used against private citizens who exercise their rights to organize politically but don’t share Obama’s views. Then there’s ACORN, Fast and Furious… You get the picture. About the only thing Obama’s got going for him is that he personally pulled the trigger on bin Laden.

  • All this in just the past four months. And all so reminiscent of the contempt the world showed for Jimmy Carter in the waning days of his failed presidency. The trouble for us is that the current presidency has more than 1,000 days to go.

I was wrong about diss. It’s a fine word. It means diss-respect. And connotes diss-may. And diss-honor. And diss-aster.

  •
”…but this administration chooses to balance the budget on the backs of the only institution that is Constitutionally mandated for the defense of the country during a time of extreme danger. Cognitive dissonance of the highest order.”

    Assumes facts not in evidence.

I don’t believe Obama wants to balance or stabilize anything. He is a saboteur, plain and simple.
The Unaffordable Care Act never was intended to help the uninsured, but to wreck the private insurance industry. The cognitive dissonance is only in the minds of people who earnestly attempt to defend this administration, and Democrats in general. (Republican apologists engage in a different sort of cognitive dissonance, thinking the stupid, cowardly Republicans are just a couple battles away from their principled push for limited government, etc..)

  • *chuckle* I’m working on a blog post laying out the argument that Obama will be remembered as one of America’s greatest Presidents. Yes, the right wing has dissed him constantly, even blaming him for Putin taking Crimea (anyone who knows Russia knew he’d do that, even if Rambo had been President). But as Obamacare now reaches a point where repeal is virutally impossible, he has extricated the US from two misguided wars (that some of you were defending for a long time), has decreased budget deficits and turned around the worst recession since the great depression (which he inherited), the historical view is going to make the anti-Obama right wing babblehouse look silly in retrospect. Of course, every great President, even Lincoln, was villified by their opponents. In part because greatness means you are doing things that the other side thinks is horrible, will destroy the country, yadda yadda. (and some comments in this thread are insane – the biggest problem of the affordable care act is that it is designed around the wants of private insurance, and someone says it was designed to wreck it? Eyes rolling). There are other examples – the culture change taking place (gay marriage the most obvious example) and a host of real policy changes that will last a long time.
So go ahead and pretend that somehow he’s a failure – you on the Obamaphobic right can pat each other’s back and convince yourselves. Some of us know better (I’ll have that post up in a few days – inspired in part by how virulent the anti-Obama rhetoric is on the right – though to be fair, the left often treated Reagan that way.)

    • In the world of make believe he’s a glittering success. Greatness. There are no words.

This is what you came back for?
How’s that Arab Spring thing coming along? All that leading from behind stuff. Syria? Is Iran boxed in and stopping their saber rattling yet? Is Putin still weak? How’s that unemployment thing going? Want to talk about keeping your doctor? Your health insurance? NSA spying? #1 deporter? How about gun running? Hey, how about that quick decision he made on the Keystone pipeline? That Benghazi movie thing?

I hope you’re paid for your epic attempts to spread your delusion.

    • Oh, you might recall a little more recently than Reagan with virulent rhetoric. Just consider the tales of Chimpy McBushitler the evil moron genius who created 14 years of havoc that ‘the great’ Obama has been unable to undo.
For everything that is wrong, there is George W. Bush for an answer. He’s the Lucifer to the Obamic bible legend.

    • Speaking of cognitive dissonance, narcissistic personality disorder, stupid kool-aid drinkers, etc., heeeeeers Erbie!

    • Yes, the right wing has dissed him constantly, even blaming him for Putin taking Crimea (anyone who knows Russia knew he’d do that, even if Rambo had been President).

      Um…Erp…
Post your link to your piece from a year ago predicting that.
Oh, and while you’re are it…put up those links to how the capitalist system ALWAYS tends toward a gangsta economic model.
      Go ‘head. We’re waiting, douchbag.

      • Good point. I did a quick search of his blog and the only hits on “Crimea” are from… March 2014. I guess his sharp Russian insight only came to full brilliance when he could perceive the true intentions of Putin that everyone else missed once Russian special forces stated occupying airports, military bases and tanks started rolling across borders. But search for “Ukraine” and you can find this little gem of prescience:

But what about talk now of quicker movement for Georgia and Ukraine to join NATO, and a missile defense system in Poland which seems to have really angered the Russians? Don’t read too much into the rhetoric. Vladimir Putin may be a lot of things, but he’s not stupid. He and the Russian elite know that NATO will expand, and that the missile defense system in Poland the Czech Republic was all but a done deal. There is nothing Russia can do about those things, and Putin knows it. Moreover, Russia has no desire to try to reclaim the “Russian Empire” as McCain puts it, or develop a true confrontation with the West.

Seems to flatly contradict his claim just now! Then of course you have his prediction in Dec 2011 for 2012:

Russian President Vladimir Putin will become more openly authoritarian in his bid to win re-election as President. But the Russian people are not as docile as they were in Soviet times and Russian protests will threaten Putin’s grip on power. Ultimately Putin will be pushed out by bureaucratic insiders, but that will not satisfy the crowds.

Seems that his understanding of Russia is not as deep as he thinks it is. Most of his Russia analysis centers around Pussy Riot, so it is to be expected that he gets blindsided by events as they happen in the larger world.

        • Having an ex mail-order bride from there, and an ex Father-in-Law who was a communist official doesn’t qualify him to be an expert. But we all know he is that guy who always has to pretend to be the best expert in the room, who can always talk himself into presenting himself as the guy who predicted it all.

          • So…a nominally useful idiot in a very small, moose-scented sphere for a while, at least.
So it shouldn’t be a total loss to the Collective.

    • Hey, Scott.

You want to talk about virulent rhetoric – here, why don’t you do a post on this…..while your at it.

    • ERp is all happy since they are announcing that obamacare has 7 M sign ups. It is a turd they really have to polish.

      • Jay Carney declared that the panicked hordes who signed up before the deadline, fearful of being hit with a fine, were proof, (proof, I tell ya) that Americans in great numbers are eager to get affordable health insurance.
Yeah, and the shopkeeps who hand over money to Vinny and Alfonso are eager to help out the Don in his community enhancements.

    • Scott, friendly advice-

When the time comes, and the chickens REALLY come home to roost………. remember.

      Just remember.

    • (chuckle)…
American voters oppose the Affordable Care Act 55 – 41 percent and 40 percent are less likely to vote for a candidate who supports Obamacare, while 27 percent are more likely and 31 percent say this will not affect their vote.
      https://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/thoughts-abc-newswapo-obamacare-poll_786402.html
Pres. ScamWOW’s at 55% job disapproval, just 26% believe the economy is in good shape, and Obama’s disapproval on how he is handling healthcare is at 58%.
      Damned ungrateful proles…

  • Russia President Vladimir Putin’s divorce goes through

The Kremlin has confirmed that the divorce of Russian President Vladimir Putin from his wife of 30 years, Lyudmila, has been finalised. The country’s best-known couple, who have two daughters in their late 20s, went on TV in June to announce they were breaking up. Mr Putin, 61, was still officially listed as “married” only last week.

… well this explains a lot. After the alimony, he needed the Crimea as a place to hang out

Did you actually use the term “destined”…??? (And, no, I did NOT provide you any traffic.)
Hellfire, moosesqueeze, you don’t know if your ass is “destined” to follow you out of bed in the morning…!!!
STILLLLLLL waiting on those posts I challenged you to provide.

Last time it was a ‘shout out;’ to a Congressional Medal of Honor winner….oh, wait NOOOOOOOO, he won the Congressional gold medal….

Only a legendary and truly great President understands what it takes to be this kind of legendary leader.
In the reverse of Winston Churchill, if history is kind to this man, it will only be because he, and his sycophantic biographers write it.

Well, he lied or answered so “artfully” that he might as well have been lying.

    Why the cover-up(s)…???
