The Burping Of The Lambs

The food police are interested in changing your diet – all in the name of climate change:

A government-sponsored study into greenhouse gases found that producing 2.2lb of lamb released the equivalent of 37lb of carbon dioxide.

The problem is because sheep burp so much methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Cows are only slightly better behaved. The production of 2.2lb of beef releases methane equivalent to 35lb of CO2 Tomatoes, most of which are grown in heated glasshouses, are the most “carbon-intensive” vegetable, each 2.2lb generating more than 20lb of CO2. Potatoes, in contrast, release only about 1lb of CO2 for each 2.2lb of food. The figures are similar for most other native fruit and vegetables.

Funny how that works in a carbon based eco system, wouldn’t you say? But don’t concern yourself, it’s all for your own good:

“We are not saying that everyone should become vegetarian or give up drinking but moving towards less carbon intensive foods will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve health,” said Kennedy.

Because everyone knows that potatoes are much healthier than tomatoes. Hashbrowns for all.

Oh, and barley and hops? FAIL!

Alcoholic drinks are another significant contributory factor, with the growing and processing of crops such as hops and malt into beer and whisky helping to generate 1.5% of the nation’s greenhouse gases.

My goodness, just look at what is happening to us.

‘Scuse me???  Did I read something incorrectly here?  Way back when when I was in school, we learned that plants _used_ CO2 in the process of photosynthesis.  They give _off_ O2.

Are they using the term “generating” to mean that they “capture” CO2 to produce their growth, which is then given off when they die ( are burned, composted or whatever)?

  • outlawing hops!!

Now even Pogue will vote against hese guys :)

  • Remember that Lambs never reach maturity or else they’d be referred to as sheep. So what you would be accepting in principal is adopting a balance between useful output and CO2 emissions for an animal lifeform.

The next step is obvious, if you have not prevented the problem by abortion, you can now solve it by euthanasia. The age of the problem causing animal is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is what are you worth to the state now.

BHO would become Adolph Hitler Redux. So those innocent “Hope & Change Voter” sheep will be entering into a suicide pact.

Should we name the enabling legislation, “The Barack Hussein Obama AmericanKamikaze Act”?

  • Don’t doubt for a second that you will be seeing a push for meat taxes and the like to change our evil planet destroying habits.

    • Re taxes: It could be on it’s way, Kyle. EPA has proposed to levy carbon ‘fees’ on all livestock producers. $87.50/hd/year on beef. $20/hd/yr on hogs. Don’t know the rate on sheep. As livestock producers are price takers, the supply of meat will have to be cut to raise prices enough to cover these costs. BTW, hog producers don’t come remotely close to earning $20/hog, and $87.50 on beef cows would wipe out my profits in cattle.

  • You think this is bad?

Wait until you have Universal Healthcare.  Mandates for veggie burgers at fast food joints – its better for the environment and saves scarce healthcare dollars!

This is all funny now, but I could see a civil war brewing over this direction of government coercion
