Cap-And-Trade And Paying For China Too

Who are these people?

I’m obviously mistaken if I think they’re in office to represent the citizens of the United States of America.  Apparently, instead, they represent the Chinese:

“It’s important that those who consume the products being made all around the world to the benefit of America — and it’s our own consumption activity that’s causing the emission of greenhouse gases, then quite frankly Americans need to pay for that,” Commerce Secretary Gary Locke told the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

That’s United States Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke, folks.

Of course, after Locke shoots off his mouth and forgets for whom he works,  the Joe Biden treatment comes into play. Behold, the official disclaimer that makes it all officially okeydokey:

“Secretary Locke has been very clear on emphasizing the importance of fair trade as a part of the United States’ relationship with China. He believes U.S. companies should not be disadvantaged by Chinese imports not bound by responsible policies to reduce carbon emissions. China and the US must work together to ensure a level playing field and reduce our carbon footprints. The Secretary’s trip to China demonstrated his commitment to fair trade and his belief that both the United States and China can benefit from shared investments and cooperation in clean energy that will lead to commercial and environmental benefits for both countries.”

In other words, he didn’t say what he said and we say so.  Orwell would be freakin’ proud.

I swear – sometimes words just fail me when I watch the absolute travesty our government has become.  And no, not just since January.  But they sure have caused the process to speed up.

  • They are not saying they represent the Chinese, they are saying they are going to put a “carbon tariff” on foreign made goods.  None of the revenue involved will be given to China, instead it will be used to fund expanded healthcare, TARP or whatever else they dream up.

  • “It’s important that those who consume the products being made all around the world to the benefit of America — and it’s our own consumption activity that’s causing the emission of greenhouse gases, then quite frankly Americans need to pay for that,” Commerce Secretary Gary Locke told the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.”

Incredible, these people must be taking money from the Chinese as they are obviously representing them. I wonder if anyone with the means to do this kind of investigation is looking into that.

  • You really have to wonder exactly how many “Cap-And-Trade” IOUs are outstanding.
Just like the S&L, dot-com, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac scams of the last couple of decades, “Cap-And-Trade” has many fathers and many beneficiaries, all directly or indirectly on the “public dime.”  It’s absolutely amazing that the scam still continues while the underlying science has vaporized and the scam is now operating in plain sight.

  • Charitably, Locke’s attitude might be compared to that of a man who uses his own waterhose to put out a growing fire on his neighbor’s property when the neighbor refuses to do anything about it.

Less than charitably (and more accurately), it’s rather more like a crazy man IMAGINING a fire on his neighbor’s property, and the neighbor chortling over the idea of getting his yard thoroughly watered for free.

James Marsden refers to TAO as “The Clown”.  That’s understating the truth: this whole friggin’ administration and Congress is full of people who ought to be insane asylums.

  • So let me get this right – On top of murderous rates of spending and a horrible bunch of energy and medical programs, they want to simultaneously give our money to China, and raise tariffs?
The level of incompetence and lunacy boggles the mind.

  • I would be more than happy if The Clown™ and his entire crooked maladministration would go to Beijing and serve the Chinese people and government. They are definitely not serving us, the American people, but instead doing their utmost to pitch us into ruin. The sooner they clear out of the US and avoid fugging this country up any further, the better I would feel.

The question is, “What would be your response if someone came around, grabbed your wallet, and when you fought back they decided to push you off a cliff as well? What do you do?”

  • I suspect this is a primer for making the Carbon Tax take the form of a National Sales Tax.

    • Sorry. Meant to add that a sales tax can be hidden at the checkout and won’t show up on the W2/paycheck. Basically a way to mask the pain of this new tax.

  • You know, you can imagine in China it’s like, ching-chong, ching-chong, Danny DeVito.

  • Apparently you have pissed off some chinese guy with perplexing Engrish :)

Who have been these people? I’m patently in error if we consider they’re in bureau to paint a adults of a United States of America. Apparently, instead,
    Read a strange post:

    Rosie O’Donnell was right ;)

  • Well, in the end the consumer pays for taxes through a higher price on the product.
But somehow I doubt that’s what he was talking about.

  • This is not the funny kind of irony: Scientists say the chemicals that helped solve the last global environmental crisis — the hole in the ozone layer — are making the current one worse.
The chemicals, called hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), were introduced widely in the 1990s to replace ozone-depleting gases used in air conditioners, refrigerators and insulating foam.
They worked: The earth’s protective shield seems to be recovering.
But researchers say what’s good for ozone is bad for climate change. In the atmosphere, these replacement chemicals act like “super” greenhouse gases, with a heat-trapping power that can be 4,470 times that of carbon dioxide.
