And You Wonder What Fairyland Is Like?

Nancy Peolsi will be the first to tell you that the experts are wrong when they say the public option described by President Obama last night won’t work.

At a separate event, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters that half the bill “will be paid for by squeezing excesses out of the system” by finding $500 billion in reduced waste, fraud, abuse and redundancy. The rest will be paid for in pay-as-you-go funding and cuts in other spending.

“Squeeze it out of the system, and that means out of the providers and the rest as well,” she said.

She added that despite the price tag, there’s no limit on the help people will receive.

“There’s a cap on what you pay in in premiums. There’s no cap on what you receive back,” Pelosi added.

My guess, given the current state of the Nobel Prize, her prize for economics is in the bag. She’s discovered a condition where price controls work and are in perfect equilibrium with unlimited payouts thereby never leading to funding deficits.

It’s freakin’ magic!

  • She described health insurance in a nutshell. The amount that each person pays is less than the amount that each person receives. And if not for ‘waste and inefficiency,’ we’d pay less and receive more and it would all balance out.

By the way, if Pelosi really believes that this time we can find $500 billion by trimming waste and inefficiency, doesn’t that mean that every congressman in office for longer than the past year is to blame for trillions in wasted spending? Because otherwise, I’d have to think that Ms. Pelosi is making promises that she knows she cannot keep.

So which is it, Nancy? Have you been part of a litany of congressional mismanagement and ineptitude that is legendary in nature, or are you just lying? And am I being too kind in allowing you to cop to only one of the choices?

  • Uri Bezmenov was right. There is no reasoning with these useful idiots.

  • “There’s a cap on what you pay in in premiums. There’s no cap on what you receive back,” Pelosi added.”

Cool, I give ‘em a ten and they give me back a hundred, and I can do that for what…ever. Can’t wait till they take over food production.

  • (A) Nancy Pelosi is so stupid that she actually believes this.

    (B) Nancy Pelosi cynically believes that the American people are stupid enough to believe this.

    (C) Both (A) and (B)

    Take your choice.

Oh, and if we pass ObamaCare, Christopher Reeve will walk again!

    • I don’t get what you guys are mocking!

I mean, a lot of the money the government puts into these programs is free, right?

This wouldn’t be any different than
      http://www.freegovmoney.net would it?

    • I am immediately reminded of my 8th or 9th grade science class. Oh, how my fevered 14 year-old mind churned out little drawings of perpetual motion machines. I was convinced of the possibility of it right up until I was clued in to Newton’s Laws. Pelosi is no different, except that she will not learn the impossibility of economic free lunches. The answer is A) She is that stupid.

  • Cost savings are out there …
I bet Nancy will be “mothballing” Air Pelosi and taking coach to/from San Fran

  • Unlimited free lunches? What could possibly go wrong?

  • Pelosi must believe that Social Security and Medicare are just peachy, too. Now, those also are capped on what you pay, and capped on payouts only per period of time (the payout cap is only a matter of how long a recipient lives), and those clearly don’t work.

But when it’s all backed by the full faith and credit of the taxpayer, why worry?

Brown: Jefferson is credited with saying, “Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread.” (“Want” was used in the old sense of “lack.”)

Docjim: Unfortunately we already know there are many millions of Americans who would think it can work. How many believe Social Security and Medicare can be “fixed”?

    • “Jefferson is credited with saying, “Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread.”

Pelosi would answer; that we may limit how much the farmers sow but we would set no limits on how much they can reap. In Pelosi’s world that’s how you solve world hunger. Even though, there’s always a “bread” shortage in DC. (”Bread” was used in the old sense of “money.”)

For everything else there’s tax payers.

  • Does anyone remember the Grace Commission in 1982, finding that around 40% of ALL government spending was wasted?

A few hundred pages of recommendations – none implemented.

  • My guess is Nancy Pelosi has always been that stupid. I would accept the theory that Botox has migrated to her brain, if anyone can find evidence that she has ever said anything intelligent.

    No takers?
