Yes those party poopers at the Congressional Budget Office are at it again. This time they’ve found the Obama claim that “seniors won’t see any of their Medicare benefits cut under the planned health care reforms” to be, well, not true.
The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, told senators Tuesday that seniors in Medicare’s managed care plans would see reduced benefits under a bill in the Finance Committee.
The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.
Elmendorf said the changes would reduce the extra benefits that would be made available to beneficiaries.
My guess is Doug Elmendorf will probably not make the White House Christmas list this year.

This shows why health care reform has proved to be so problematic to the Democrats. Obama makes a claim. The claim is disputed. Obama responds by repeating his claim. More research shows that his claim is false. Obama responds by repeating the claim again, and taking a thinly-veiled jab at his “detractors.” Obama supporters insist that anyone disputing his claim is a racist.
This is not some clever campaign by insidious right-wing organizations. The Democrats have a majority in both houses of congress. They have majorities large enough that they can, one way or another, push this legislation through. The fact that they are, at this point in time, still wringing their hands is a clear indicator that the public, particularly independents who voted against Republicans in 2008, isn’t being fooled. Not by right-wing sloganeers, and not by left-wing dissembling and conspiracy quackery.
Well, what you are missing is that the CBO is, obviously a tool of right wing radicals. And probably racist to boot.
Those damned Democrats, wanting to deny health care to seniors!
[...] QandO tells us a secret that the Obama administration probably wishes the CBO had taken to the grave. Yes those party poopers at the Congressional Budget Office are at it again. Sounds like Elmendorf is due to be summoned for another meeting with Obie….
I take it as a given that politicians are fundamentally dishonest. However, TAO is eclipsing even Slick Willie’s record of serial lying, making him look like a flippin’ Boy Scout in comparison.
Why?
Is it that:
1. TAO is so completely clueless about the government he runs, so unknowlegable about a variety of topics from economics to the legislative process to health care, and so divorced from reality that he actually believes the whoppers he tells, or;
2. He is so accustomed to never being called on anything he says that he thinks that he never will be and can thus lie with impunity, or;
3. He thinks everybody else is too stupid to realize that he’s lying to them?
Of the possibilities, (1) is the scariest. Is it possible that TAO really doesn’t have a good grip on reality?
“[Obama] is eclipsing even Slick Willie’s record of serial lying, making him look like a flippin’ Boy Scout in comparison.
“Why?”
Crucial distinction here is that Bill Clinton was merely a psychopath (is that controversial, to say that at this point?), while Obama is a revolutionary.
Psychopaths are retailers, revolutionaries are wholesalers.
Both are malignant narcissists. Psychopaths are MacBeths, revolutionaries are Castros, Chavezes, Maos.
What I’m saying, basically, is that you haven’t seen nothing yet.
Barack Obama is a character from a novel that Orwell didn’t live to write.
All of the above! ;-(
And, no, TAO does not have a grip on reality. AAMOF, the left has denied that reality exists (other than our own subjective concoctions) for a couple generations now.
Doug Elmendorf must be a racist.
