QandO Welcomes It’s 6,000,000th Visitor

I know – there are blogs out there that do 6,000,000 in a year.  And we’ve been at it a lot longer than a year. But I’m pretty proud of that number. It took us a long time to turn a million. Not as long to turn 2 million. Then we were turning a million in about a year. Now we’re getting a million visits, per sitemeter, in less than a year.

Readership is up (from about 2,200 visits a day to over 3,000). Page views, which to me are really the key, are over 9,000,000 and the average time spent per visit (which is an even bigger key) is at a minute fifty seconds. That’s pretty darn good in the big scheme of things.

Thanks to all our loyal readers (and yes we do enjoy hearing from you and appreciate all the tips you send – don’t stop doing either) and I especially want to thank our commentariat. We have a good group of intelligent commenters, for the most part, who keep it lively and impart a pretty enjoyable sense of community – especially Ott Scerb.

Heh … anyway, thanks a million, very poor pun intended, for another great QandO year.

Yeah, well Chevrolet sells more cars than Mercedes or Lexus.

  • Congratulations! I do have one small request for the site layout – for me, at least, it’s very hard to see hyperlinks in a post, because the color is very close to the normal text color (unless you luckily roll-over the link or have already visited that link beforehand.) Sometimes the context of the sentence makes it clear enough that it’s probably linking somewhere, but other times I miss the link the first time through. Anyhow, thanks for all the interesting reading!

  • Wish I could get those numbers.

  • Congratulations, Bruce. You’re doing a great job!

  • It’s a good blog. Such a serious and sustained effort will not likely go unpunished.

    • “Such a serious and sustained effort will not likely go unpunished.”

I’d like to think otherwise, Martin, but I don’t.

We’re all headed in the same direction, faster than ever, and whether we like it or not. And I swear it’s true: it was just this morning that I thought about Bruce in a context of soon-enough having to point out to him: “There was a time when we still had a chance.” It was a brief thought, but in the character of having to look forward to an obituary.

I wish I could applaud this as heartily as better prospects would permit, but there’s just no room for that now. Things are rapidly becoming a lot more serious than what goes on here, and with commensurate gloom I suggest that everyone drink up while the party’s rolling.

      • I’m neither an optimist nor a pessimist.

But there’s no question that we’re in for it.

        Ummmm… Congratulations, QandO!!! [noisemakers unfurl]

        Heh.

        Anyway, here’s to 6,000,000 more…

        Cheers

        • I’ve known Bruce twenty years now, Pogue. That’s a lot of my life and history in that.

Six million visitors is an abstraction with considerably less pertinence to me.

  • I mostly read from the RSS feed through Google Reader now… hope that still contributes to your numbers.

  • Actually this is not as big a deal as you are making it out to be. 3,000,000 of those hits are from my visits.
