Jonah Goldberg reminded me of this beauty by Harvey Weinstein concerning Hollywood’s defense of rapist Roman Polanski:
In an opinion piece in London’s the Independent, Weinstein Co. co-founder Harvey Weinstein, who is circulating the pro-Polanski petition, wrote: “Whatever you think about the so-called crime, Polanski has served his time. A deal was made with the judge, and the deal is not being honored. . . . This is the government of the United States not giving its word and recanting on a deal, and it is the government acting irresponsibly and criminally.”
In an interview, Weinstein said that people generally misunderstand what happened to Polanski at sentencing. He’s not convinced public opinion is running against the filmmaker and dismisses the categorization of Hollywood as amoral. “Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion,” Weinstein said. “We were the people who did the fundraising telethon for the victims of 9/11. We were there for the victims of Katrina and any world catastrophe.”
If Hollywood is the best moral compass, then there is no such thing as moral magnetic north.
While doing fundraising is appreciated, it shows much less of the needed compassion in those situations than a small rural church in Georgia which pools the resources of its parishioners, drives to coastal Mississippi, buys supplies from Home Depot and rebuilds houses for those made homeless by the hurricane.
Nope – the moral compass of this country resides where it always has, and those who possess it are calling BS on the Polanski charade.

I, for one, would like to find out what we average everyday people can do about this. I really mean it.
We should form groups, city by city, who find out the latest film either starring or having been directed, or having anyone working on it, who is an apologist for this sickening child rapist and molester. Then, theaters where that film is being shown should be picketed, with flyers handed out asking people to boycott the film to punish child rapists and their defenders in Hollywood.
Enough is enough from the liberal mindset that whitewashes the crimes of a child rapist because he made some movies people like. Everyone – and I mean everyone – has to go on the record where they stand on this. We should start by e-mailing ABC and telling them to fire Whoopi Goldberg (aka Karen Johnson) over her crappola that this is not “rape rape.” What kind of effing motherf_cking crap is that? Not “rape rape”? Go now, Ms. Johnson. Go away. Your time on television and in movies should now be at an end.
Start websites. Call advertisers. Use the power of the almighty dollar as your voice to tell the Left: no more crap from you. Your time of making the world a terrible place is at an end. NOW.
Let’s use the power of numbers to exact some justice for all of the children being abused in this world who get no justice. Maybe we can’t jail their offenders, but we can shine the light of truth right in their effing faces.
I am trying to find a e-mail address for ABC Entertainment. I will tell them that I will boycott everyone of their programs until they fire Whoopi “Rape Rape” Goldberg. She should be the first head on the platter. And then more should follow.
Will anyone join me? Or will you sit there and let the Left (not all the Left, but a lot of them) make child rape something that is no big deal?
The problem with Hollywood’s moral compass is that is usually points South.

More importantly it means I can continue to watch Fifth Element and The Professional (which had some creepy adult-child implications in it, I’ve gotta say).
Another example of the difference between left and right: they are all about “feelings” and “intentions”. Hence, they can preen about their moral compass because they have “compassion”; deeds or other evidence of their goodness are not necessary. In the same way, crime can either be proved or excused. For example, we often heard during the Bush years that, “It’s not the strength of the evidence; it’s the magnitude of the charges.” Because libs FELT that Bush was up to no good, that was sufficient proof of his guilt. On the other hand, they FEEL that Polanski really didn’t do anything wrong and has suffered enough for his non-crime, so he should get a pass.
It would be of some interest to know the views of the average lefty voter in the country (if we could ensure that they are not stoned, think their welfare check will be cut off if they give the wrong answer, haven’t been told what to think by their liberal masters). Are liberals really so morally degenerate that they agree with the perverts and savages in Hollywood? Or do they still possess enough decency and respect for the law that they want Polanski to face the music?
Weinstein’s compassion apparently runs out when dealing with young girls who have been raped by middle-aged men.
Now, now: Whoopie Goldberg has decreed that it wasn’t “rape-rape”, so it sort of really wasn’t rape at all.
