About That Settled “Science”

More information about the now discredited Himalayan glacier claim:

The scientist behind the bogus claim in a Nobel Prize-winning UN report that Himalayan glaciers will have melted by 2035 last night admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders.

Dr Murari Lal also said he was well aware the statement, in the 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), did not rest on peer-reviewed scientific research.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Dr Lal, the co-ordinating lead author of the report’s chapter on Asia, said: ‘It related to several countries in this region and their water sources. We thought that if we can highlight it, it will impact policy-makers and politicians and encourage them to take some concrete action.

As is obvious the so-called “science” was nothing more than concocted tripe used strictly for political purposes. And the fact that it was included, without peer review and never double checked raises doubts about the scientific nature of the IPCC report in toto. Lal’s admission is incredible. The fact that it was never further checked by those who put their reputations on the line by signing the IPCC document is equally as incredible.

As we skeptics have been saying since the beginning, this is as much about a political agenda as it is about science, and in the last few months, the science has been found to be severely wanting. This is simply the latest in a long line of credibility destroying revelations which should have now made every thinking person out there a skeptic when it comes to the “science” of AGW.

  • Anybody up for a RICO prosecution?

  • You dense righties never learn. Climate change science is the first major science to use the wonders of post-modernism to arrive at multiple truths. You can’t refute those truths because your truth is not the only truth. I decree it.

That’s why the science is settled. We wise leftists have picked the truth we like from the batch of multiple truths, and this silly stuff about “evidence” and “corruption” that you prattle on about is completely irrelevant.

When there are multiple truths, we wise leftists get to decide which one drives public policy. First, we decide on the correct truth, and of course that’s the one that calls for more power delivered to wise leftists. Then we indoctrinate teach the many, many ignorant proles common citizens who are too busy to figure things out for themselves about the correct truth. We’ve now done that, and your children are completely convinced. Global warming is real, and it requires major government action immediately to do something about it. That’s just the way it is, and you dense righties need to stop fighting back and accept your carbon overlords.

But I’m only stopping in for a short comment. I’m not really commenting here. This isn’t even me. That means I’m not being the least bit dishonest about saying I wasn’t going to comment here anymore. And all that stuff about me calling you Nazis and inbred, well, I was just a bit overwrought that day, so you can’t hold it against me.

And all that other stuff you dense, ex-military basket cases like Hollis keep dredging up about what I’ve gotten wrong in the past is completely also irrelevant because of the multiple truth thing. Especially the stuff about Palin and Iraq. Because both of them are just icky. Their ickiness means I’m right about them and you thick righties are wrong, no matter what so-called “facts” you bring up.

And I just can’t stand to think about Palin. Those naughty librarian glasses of hers, plus those rich, full lips that grin maliciously all the time, and that ample bosom she has… that all makes me visualize her standing over me with a whip, and I just can’t stand that. Nancy Pelosi, now there’s a female politician I can relate to. No bosom to speak of and she can’t even smile because of the botox, which is exactly how it should be.

    • You’ve just taken the wind (with obvious increased levels of CO2) from my sails

Wow, playboy letters at Q and O.  Bruce, you will need to start smoking a pipe and get a cardigan :)

    Glaciergate: Hitler’s Last Straw

  • Is there any part of the review process at the IPCC that wasn’t hopelessly corrupted?  That article details a process where no one really seemed to care what made it into the report, as long as it fit the narrative.  And now the IPCC and many of the people associated with it are discredited.  Thoroughly discredited.  And again I wonder just how much damage has been done to the public’s confidence in science, and how long it’s going to take to rebuild it.

    • Is there any part of the review process at the IPCC that wasn’t hopelessly corrupted?

Do you mean that, aside from the font it was written in, the summary bears virtually no resemblence to the body of the report in which the words “uncertain” and “uncertainty” were used about 50,000 times?

  • McQ-

Please check out Erb’s answer to “is the science still settled” in the “Dems and GOP don’t get it” thread.

    I’m SOOOOOOOO glad he’s back  :)

  • I just don’t get it. I should go into politics. People in this thread feigning surprise that the science was corrupted by the IPCC. The relevant datum is the fact that the IPCC is a subdivision of the U.N. , where corruption is the policy.  I would have been surprised had the science not been corrupt.

    • I am not surprised that the process was corrupt on some level, I’m surprised that the corruption was so pervasive and so sloppy.  The account of how the glacier “data” got added to the IPCC report indicates a failure that is borne entirely out of the willingness to accept anything that fit the narrative, in the same way that the corruption of the peer-review process was borne out of a desire to omit any point of view that didn’t follow the AGW script.  As with the CRU email correspondence, those involved had let their guard down and assumed that they would not be discovered, which led to an appalling level of sloppiness.

I expected them to appear misguided.  I just didn’t expect them to be this stupid.
