Global Warming – Last On America’s Priority List

For those that have chosen to make man-made global warming a form of religion this might come as disappointing news. Americans just don’t really care that much about it. In fact, since it was first measured by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press in January of 2007, it has slipped a full 10 points and is now listed as dead last on the people’s priority list.

Dead last among 21 priorities

Global warming is simply not a priority except among Democrats. And even among them it is a minority position – only 43% see it as a top priority while only 11% of Republicans and 25% of independents see it as such.

Is it because they just aren’t buying the hype anymore and don’t believe it is really an urgent problem or is it because other are indeed more urgent problems? As I pointed out previously, since Pew has been tracking it in 2007, it has always been among the lowest of priorities with 38%. It has declined even more each and every year since.

There’s a lesson for the cap-and-traders there who would use global warming as a reason to enact the carbon taxing scheme designed to create a revenue stream for government out of thin air.

Global warming ranks lower among the public than trade policy – which I’m sure is followed with interest and understanding by the masses.  Politicians aren’t dumb – well not completely.  They’ll see that list and figure out what is below the 49 to 50% level and shy away from that for the time being.  That means immigration, tax cuts, financial regulation, the environment and global warming are going to find convenient back burners on which to sit.  Or should.

As an aside,  just because the public isn’t clamoring for tax cuts, it should be clear to all, given this chart, that spending can  not go on as scheduled.  Nope – deficit reduction ranks up there in the 60% range.  No tax cuts?  Cut spending then – big time.  Not piddling little 15 to 25 billion a year “freezes” – cut spending.  Pick a percentage and do it. 3% a year, across the board, for 10 years.  Budget for it.

That’s about the only way the economy will get moving. Government has got to quit sucking up all the available credit for these nonsense projects politicians like to claim will “create jobs”.    If those who think global warming is an important priority want to see it addressed at all, they’d better find a way to satisfy the rest of the country that the other 20 priorities have been successfully addressed.

“It’s the economy, stupid.”

I wonder if these 2 polls are linked …

Americans do not trust the major tv news operations in the country- except for Fox News. Our [PPP] newest survey looking at perceptions of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and NBC News finds Fox as the only one that more people say they trust than distrust.

If MiniTru spent 1/10 of the time on the global warming scandals that they do on other “vital” issues like Tiger Woods and how hard it is to cover the disaster in Haiti (I feel so sorry for the reporters, not having reliable e-mail and being surrounded by suffering and all), the number of Americans concerned about global warming would probably be much higher… because they’d be outraged that Algore and his fellow hucksters aren’t being prosecuted for fraud.

Apparently, it came out just yesterday that yet another piece of “evidence” was a fabrication:

Here’s the latest development, courtesy of Dr Richard North – and it’s a cracker. It seems that, not content with having lied to us about shrinking glaciers, increasing hurricanes, and rising sea levels, the IPCC’s latest assessment report also told us a complete load of porkies about the danger posed by climate change to the Amazon rainforest…

It gets even better. The two expert authors of the WWF report so casually cited by the IPCC as part of its, ahem, “robust” “peer-reviewed” process weren’t even Amazon specialists. One, Dr PF Moore, is a policy analyst…

And the lead author Andy Rowell is a freelance journalist (for the Guardian, natch) and green activist…

When the ‘peer review’ consists of looking for spelling and punctuation errors the qualifications of the reviewer are really immaterial.

HMPH!  Wish my professors in college had confined themselves to merely checking spelling and punctuation on my papers!  No such luck: they were real scientists and had this strange obsession with facts and reproducible data.  Even the liberals arts professors wanted footnotes leading back to scholarly, published work or (better still) primary documents.  “I decree it!” just didn’t fly with them.

Hmmm…I only see two or three items that are properly function of the federal government.

  • James Marsden says:

The reason that the Demmies are finished in 2010 – and perhaps 2012 – is because they got into office with large majorities and they threw all caution to the wind in the zeal, in their zest, to socialize everything they could lay their grimy little fingers on. Auto companies, power grids, corporations, banks, Wall Street, and health care, all to be owned by the government. However, they failed to notice those pesky polls that kept saying that their whole program was wildly unpopular. So, they kept going, driving forward as if their foot was stuck on the accelerator even though they were heading right for the edge of the cliff.

The debacles in New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts woke some of them up. But amongst the flaming loons of the Left, there is still that belief if only Harry Reid, or Nancy Pelosi would just show some backbone and push some of their stuff through, it would pass and The Clown™ could sign it into law.

We need to wake those deluded fuggers up as well. One good arse kicking, say around November 2010, should do the trick.

I am shocked! It appears that nobody is worried about Erb’s children! We are all scum!

    • looker says:

That’s because I worry about mine and how to keep them from being duped by the likes of Erb.
