Feds shut down Louisiana dredging operation – after approving it

Yessir – we have a unified plan and it is being executed to perfection to contain the Gulf oil spill.

Or not:

The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

The Army Corps of Engineers issued permits to build the berms (and President Obama had 360 million allocated for that construction) which are now almost complete. The Fish and Wildlife Department, however, has now pulled those permits and told the state it must move the operation two miles further offshore to satisfy their concerns.

As you might imagine, that’s not made the president of the parish involved in the construction of the berms very happy:

“Once again, our government resource agencies, which are intended to protect us, are now leaving us vulnerable to the destruction of our coastline and marshes by the impending oil,” Nungesser wrote to Obama. “Furthermore, with the threat of hurricanes or tropical storms, we are being put at an increased risk for devastation to our area from the intrusion of oil.”

Nungesser has called Adm. Allen, BP and the White House trying to get the order lifted. None have responded to his calls. I have no idea what BP could do – it’s a federal thing – but I guess he figures maybe they could apply some pressure.

Nungesser’s letter includes an emotional plea to the president. “Please don’t let them shut this dredge down,” he wrote. “This requires your immediate attention!”

Sorry he has a general to fire, something, which thankfully for the administration, has taken the spill off the front pages.

And they wonder why people keep calling the federal effort “chaos” and continue to try to figure out who, if anyone, is in charge.

  • Because whatever they’re afraid MIGHT happen that caused them to order the dredging to stop is WAAAAAAAY worse than what’s likely to happen.
    ¬
This is right up there with not using more of the available oil skimmers because someplace else might have an oil spill…..”Ah, sorry sir, the fire department can’t come and put your house out because someone else’s house might catch fire while we’re doing it and we wouldn’t be able to respond….”

  • The Obami are steadily screwing the pooch on the Gulf coast‚Ķand in the nation at large.
OPERATION OVER-REACH is spinning like a top, and it won’t last too much longer. I greatly fear what might happen this summer as thugs around the world step into the opening these fools have made.

  • You know I may have mischaracterized Obama for some time as an empty suit who stands back and votes “Present!”

This episode is not about voting “Present!”¬† This is about blatant power and its naked application.¬† This is worse than the child who cries “I quit and I am taking my bat and ball and going home” when he is not allowed to play the part of Mickey Mantle on the playground.¬† Worse because you can always find another ball and bat but here peoples livliehood is in danger, here a sensitive environment is in danger, here a President is out of control.

I defy Erb or any one else to come here and defend this action.

    • Go look at the next one Bruce posted – Erb defies you.¬† The usual – ‘experts’ of unspecified pedigree know and Louisiana doesn’t and Erb knows that they know better.

      • Erb will stoop to any level to defend Obama. It’s like a man crush, or something.

      • Sorry, it was Michael W that published the next one – those bylines catch me every damn time.

    • I am afraid I really disagree.¬† This is exactly voting present.¬† Let the Army Corp of Engineers fight it out with Fish and Wildlife.¬† At the same time, take no calls from anyone in La. lest Obama be forced to make a decision.¬† What do you think, President Obama?¬† “Present, Above my pay grade”.

  • The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.

This is beyond incredible.¬† It’s surreal.¬† Kafkaesque.¬† Un-f*cking-believable.¬† I can hardly imagine anybody being so stupid, and yet it’s really happening.¬† Where the f*ck are the Gulf Coast congressional delegations?¬† The governors?¬† Hell, the people who live there????

Meanwhile, Imeme is practicing his wedge shots and¬†partying on our dime.¬† When he’s not screwing something else up, that is.

That his approval rating isn’t in negative numbers tells me that a sizable number of my fellow citizens are too ignorant and / or flat STUPID to be allowed to… to… vote.¬† To be allowed out without a keeper.¬† To breed.¬† HOW CAN ANYBODY THINK THAT HE’S DOING A GOOD JOB AT THIS POINT?????

I’m starting to think that all those folks through history who have scoffed at democracy as unworkable or even dangerously foolish might have had a point.¬† O’ course, the fact that NOT having democracy can (and often does) lead to a leader-for-life who is as bad (even worse) than Imeme.¬† At least we have the chance to hobble this clown in November, and throw him out in a couple of years.

    It can’t come too soon.
