Pelosi’s propaganda piece

If you’ve ever wondered what pure “spin” looks like, you have as your most current example an article under Nancy Pelosi’s name in USA Today.  It is a marvel of context free and, frankly, fact free verbiage designed to do nothing more than paint an alternate picture of reality.  It is an attempt to effect how history will be written.  And it is laughable on its face.

Essentially what Pelosi does is provide a list of discredited Democrat talking points in essay form, never once acknowledging that most if not all have been debunked, shown to be untrue or simply a figment of very fertile imaginations.

My favorite part is where the soon to be minority leader, if that, finally lays out the welcome mat for Republicans – after 6 years of all but shutting them out of the Congressional process.

And, in the running for the most appalling lie among many is this line included after Pelosi lists the “accomplishments” of the 111th Congress:

And we did all of this while restoring fiscal discipline to the Congress by making the pay-as-you-go rules the law of the land.

Good lord.  An estimated 6 trillion in further debt heaped upon the country during her watch and she has the audacity to play the PAYGO card?  This and the previous Congress under Democratic rule have been the most profligate in our history.  And Ms. Pelosi attempts to say everything has been paid for?

Democrats – if you keep this person in your leadership after her 4 years as the Speaker what little is left of your tattered credibility is as good as gone.  She is divisive, extreme, partisan to a fault and the perfect leader to ensure you don’t see a majority in the House again for a decade or so.  She is the gift that keeps on giving for the GOP.

  • So, what you’re telling us is that the Collective engages in Double-speak?
But I get your astonishment, actually.  When you see this stuff, it never ceases to make your head reel.
There are only a few pathologies that permit a person to lie with absolutely no compunction.  I wonder which one Nanny has?

  • Bruce, you should correct those 6 years to 4 (Jan 07-Jan 11)

    • Not really sure about that.  Factor in the Rhinos and Republicans lost control a long time ago.  And by the same standard, its questionable if they’ve regained control.

      • Regardless of Rinos Republicans were the majority in the House until Jan 2007 (though perhaps conservatives were not), and thus were not shut out of the process; and Pelosi was most definitely not Speaker until Jan 2007 (which Bruce has since corrected).

  • What’s even more mindblowing is the number of people in her district, who have reality available to them (not that it necessarily registers) and can see how blatantly insane her statements are, yet still vote for her.  How do these people survive in the world?

    • One of the great blessings/curses of a highly developed society is that it provides a viable life for marginal people.  Some of them do REALLY well, while being nucking futs who would quickly die in a more “real” environment.

    • See Thomas Sowell’s, “A Conflict of Visions” and keep in mind that the lefts claim of being “reality based” is pure deflection and babble.

      • I am more and more convinced on the “mental model” theory, where people have a mental model of how society or the economy works and its very hard to dislodge that model.

  • The first time Nancy opens her big mouth next year, I hope the GOP rams through a measure that censures her.

  • Paygo is only “the law of the land” if the Republicans are in control of the House.

    • Perhaps “It had better be the law of the land since Repubs are in control…”

      • I’m all for Paygo, I just eagerly await our coming episodes when Captain Renault

Former Speaker Pelosi is shocked, shocked! to discover the House is not following the Paygo rules!!!!!
Especially given that what’s been happening is much more like this than anything else -
Speaker Pelosi: Oh no, Emil, please. A bottle of your best champagne, and put it on my bill.
        Emil: Very well, Madam Speaker.
        Victor Laszlo: Madam Speaker, please…
Speaker Pelosi: Oh, please, monsieur. It is a little game we play. They put it on the bill, I tear up the bill. It is very convenient.

    • They’ll have to prove that.  As the Democrats showed, it’s not that difficult to find ways around rules designed to restrict spending.

      • Actually, what I meant was that once the Republicans are in charge suddenly Nancy will be screaming about how they are violating the provisions of Paygo.

Captain Pelosi was too busy at the roulette wheel to notice there was gambling going on in the House while she was in charge.

Entirely true, but unimportant to Dem commenters on the story of her running for another term as their Speaker. It appears that the Dems are going to continue doubling down. It appears that they never had a strategy other than FDR 2.0 and it never occurred to them that they might need one.

    • Which seems fair enough. If you think FDR’s programs worked so well, why would you not try it again?

  • “It was like it was about death,” the staffer said. “It was bizarre.” The staffer did say the portions about the benefits and résumé writing were instructive.

  • Our Lady of Perpetual Surprise: Her wisdom is as phony as her BOTOX smile.

  • Does anyone have a clue as to her effectiveness as Speaker in drumming up career-killing votes? I know that she has money and her seat is virtually invulnerable, but she doesn’t seem all that smart or appealing. I’ve wondered if she doesn’t have J. Edgar Hoover-like files on lots of politicians.

  • I’ve also read from the White House Insider source that Pelosi is at war with Obama because she kept her part of the bargain to pass those terrible bills but Obama flaked out on protecting her House majority.

Who knows if it’s true, but it is fun to consider. After the bloodbath last week there must be some amount of vicious infighting going on behind the scenes.

Google “white house insider” flavor obama pelosi. [The actual links seem to toss my post into the spam filter.]

  • Funny I didn’t note it before, McQ…
Check your spelling in your title.

  • McQIt is an attempt to effect how history will be written.  And it is laughable on its face.

It won’t be laughable when “everybody knows” in a couple of years and a significant fraction of our people believe that the deficits run up over the past few years were due to Bush’s wars, Bush’s recession, and the congressional Republicans’ refusal to follow the PAYGO rules established by then-Speaker Pelosi.

    Welcome to 1984.

RagspierreThere are only a few pathologies that permit a person to lie with absolutely no compunction.  I wonder which one Nanny has?

While she may be as crazy as Captain Queeg, I suggest that lying is a politician’s stock-in-trade.  Pelosi is smart enough to recognize that her party affiliation means that she doesn’t have to bother to even pretend to try to do it well as MiniTru will never take her to task and her pot-addled constituents wouldn’t care even if they did.

    • It has been well and truly said that Nixon, “…could blush”.  All of god’s children lie.  Some of us are NOT liars (we try to avoid lying), others of us are.  It is a matter of propensity.  Every flag-rank officer BETTER know how to lie convincingly, because they sometimes have to.
But there are pathological personalities that only incidentally EVER tell the truth.  They are liars by nature and preference.  They do not blush.  Pelosi, Clinton(s), and Obama come to prominent attention.

    • Once again, I must point out that post-modern leftists can say things that are obviously and clearly false-to-fact, and still believe in their own minds that they are not lying. They rationlize and bend the meaning of words as necessary to reach that mental state. If you hooked Nancy Pelosi to a lie detector machine where she were writing this, I doubt it would register a quiver of a lie.

The most clear and obvious example is Harry Ried in his video, explaining patiently to a dumbfounded interviewer that income taxes are voluntary. Harry wasn’t lying as far as he was concerned. He just redefined “voluntary” in his own mind to mean what he needed it to mean.
