Memorial Day

VUMMF Memorial Day Ceremony

For those who might be interested, below is the Memorial Day Ceremony that Chris and I shot and edited for the Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument at NAB Coronado. They really wanted the piper highlighted.

I don’t think I’ve never seen a more self-centered president in my life …

You’ve probably seen this.  If not, I doubt it will surprise you.  Any idea of what the White House Memorial Day picture was?  Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive wondered what it might be:

A. a tasteful shot of Arlington Cemetery

B. A pic of a Gold Star Mom at her son’s grave

C. An image of an inverted rifle and empty boots signifying the death of a soldier.

NOPE! None of those pay homage to the true hero of the day.

And that hero of the day?

Of course … Mr. “Gutsy call” himself.

Shameless.

Memorial Day 2012

No image portrays the true meaning of Memorial Day like the following image.    I posted it last year, and I’ll probably post it every year I draw breath.  It best encapsulates the day’s meaning for me.

Memorial day

Freedom isn’t free.  And it doesn’t come without a horrendous cost.  God bless the fallen.  And God comfort their families.

Memorial Day 2011

As you celebrate Memorial Day today, remember its real purpose.  When you’re with your family today, please remind them the sacrifice this day memorializes, and the young men and women who’ve given their all for us to be able to celebrate it.   In all of America’s wars, approximately 1.2 million Americans have paid the ultimate price.  It is only fitting and proper that we honor that sacrifice and make it known to all our appreciation for what they fought for and have helped preserve.

Memorial day

Enjoy the day but never forget.

Memorial Day 2010 – What price freedom?

I keep this photo as probably the most powerful reminder for me of what the real price of freedom looks like. Those that give their all as well as those they leave behind. We should remember both as we celebrate the freedom they’ve blessed us with and assured for us on this Memorial Day.

Dedicated to Stuart Lee Barnett, SP4, KIA, RVN, 8/26/1970. Thank you Barney – rest in peace, my friend.
