Ron Paul and Stormfront - Part II
Posted by: McQ on Friday, October 26, 2007

You probably remember the post I made of the audio of a Stormfront endorsement of Ron Paul. And, if you were involved in the discussion, you probably remember the grief I took, especially when I said Paul should repudiate the the endorsement through his campaign staff.

Most who disagreed said he shouldn't even acknowledge it as he had no duty to address endorsements from every crack-pot group who unilaterally chose to endorse him. I tried to remind everyone that we're talking presidential politics here and you don't let anything which has the potential to come back and bite you in the rear lay there.

A simple press release by the Paul campaign repudiating any endorsement or connection with Stormfront would have sufficed to immunize him from any future connection and would make him safe from having to defend himself if accused of an association. I used the example of a rival presidential candidate during a debate bringing the endorsement up and Paul having to defend himself and deny association. If a repudiation had already been released, then no denial or defense is necessary, and the person who asked the question is simply refered to the release and the repudiation. In the first case Paul is at the disadvantage. In the second case, the person bringing it up is at the disadvantage.

Well, Paul apparently agreed with those who said he shouldn't dignify the endorsement with a repudiation.

Comes the second act:
A LoneStarTimes.com investigation has conclusively established that a leading figure in the American neo-Nazi / White-Supremacist movement has provided financial support to Ron Paul’s 2008 Presidential campaign.

The individual in question is Don Black, the founder, owner and operator of Stormfront, a “white power” website that both professional journalists and watch-dog groups have identified as the premier English-language racist/hate-site on the Internet.
Same argument is made:
In the interim, a number of grassroots supporters of Paul’s campaign– including many honorable and regular readers of LST– have argued that…

* It is unfair to hold Paul responsible for receiving political support from racists/neo-Nazis if that support was unsolicited by Paul;

* Paul hasn’t, in fact, solicited white-supremacist support; AND

* Paul’s campaign has no practical way of knowing whether or not a specific financial contribution made has come from a neo-Nazi.
Result? No sale:
These abstract debates are now moot– a contribution to the Paul campaign by a known white-supremacist has been identified.

The evidence is as follows:

* Black proudly and openly identifies himself as Stormfront’s guiding hand, and publishes a contact address on the Internet– PO Box 6637, West Palm Beach, FL, 33405

* A search by LST of public databases indicates that there is only one “Don Black” residing in West Palm Beach, Florida, zip code 33405

* A 7/16/01 USA Today article identifies Black’s wife as being named “Chloe”

* That same article identifies Chloe as being the ex-wife of close Black associate and former “Grand Wizard” of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke

* Minutes of a 9/7/07 City of West Palm Beach code-compliance hearing identify “Chloe H. Duke” as owning a residential property located at 203 Lakeland Drive

* According to Federal Election Commission records, on 9/30/07 the Ron Paul presidential campaign received a $500 contribution from a Mr. Don Black, who lists his address as 203 Lakeland Drive and identifies his occupation as “self-employed/website manager”

In light of these facts, we believe our previously asked questions continue to have merit.

A final note– it is traditional in political campaigns for candidates to return contributions from “toxic” donors once sufficient public scrutiny and outcry has been generated.
The point? Had Paul immediately repudiated Stormfront and Stormfront's endorsement, all of this is a tempest in a teapot. The campaign would again produce the repudiation, thank those who've pointed out the donation, reinterate the repudiation for the record and either send the money back or donates it to charity.

Instead, as predicted, Paul is in the position of defending and denying.

Again, when it is the arena of presidential politics, you don't let anything lay there that opposition can use against you, no matter how insignificant you feel it is.

>>Don Black<<

That’s a great name for a white supremacist. I wonder why he never legally changed it.

The best course of action for Paul would have been to publicly donate those funds (and matching funds) to a Civil Rights group, like the NAACP College Fund or a Holocaust Memorial/Museum fund on top of the public repudiation.

He could have turned this into a large PR boon.

Let us hope Ron Paul does not say something like ’who will rid me of this turbulent Black?’. That might lose him the Black and the black vote.

We’ll see how hard the MSM wants to keep Ron Paul in the race as a spoiler by whether or not they pick up this story.

There seem only two or three possiblities left to us in making a judgement here:

He doesn’t disagree with Stormfront and what it stands for in a substantial enough way to make accepting their endorsements and their money a moral issue for him.

He’s tone deaf enough not to understand that this is a serious issue for him drawing any voters from outside the Stromfront group.

Or possibly, the guy’s simply looney.

In any of these the party needs to cut off his funding, and show him the door. He’s not qualified for the position he now holds, much less that of POTUS.

And that’s about as harsh a statement as I have ever made about anyone running for office, who was not a Clinton.

Bithead when you are the ONLY Conservative in America, you understand you need the money and so you take it, the ends justify the means. Plus StormFront probably agrees with him on Affirmative Action and Iraq...so he is just taking what he wants and leaving the rest (12 Step aphorism)!

Gee what turns this from a tempest in a teapot into a hurricane? Oh yeah, people writing stories titled "Ron Paul and Stormfront".

I don’t know Retief what if Hillary took $500 from the National Right to Life Committee, would it make the news? Or how about the National Right to Life Committee endorsing Hillary? It’s "news" to some extent because here’s Mr Liberty taking cash from folks that most find pretty nasty...and Mr Crank doesn’t seem to mind it. But then, the first clue ought to have been he’d appear on Alex Jones. Basically Ron Paul will go ANYWHERE and meet ANYONE and accept ANY cash in order to further his campaign. He’s a tone deaf crank.

Let’s just say this reply of yours is a target rich environment.

And Retief, imagine with me if you will, the Clintons taking the oney of the Chinese Communist Party to support their own campaigns.

Do you suppose.... we see some headlines and some hurricanes brewing over that?
Oh, wait... we don’t need to imagine it, do we?

This StormFront .. sounds like the reincarnation of the radical Weathermen .. who (including myself) has ever heard of them.

Ron Paul’s got StormFront, Hiliary’s got invisible Chinese busboys.

As long as they just pay a little penalty, say 5% of the take donations and there is no jail time, then there is no problem.

The campaign has been asked about those supporters and HAS responded:
The Paul campaign dismissed the pro-Paul activities [by Stormfront, Vanguard, and Nationalist Coalition] groups. "We don’t know who these people are," said Jesse Benton, Paul’s communications director. Their support has "nothing to do with Ron Paul, and what he stands for....His message is freedom, peace and prosperity - that’s why people support him."
