Pick an America....
Posted by Jon Henke
Quick comments on John Edwards.....
* Speaking to a crowd in Virginia yesterday, he brought up his "two America's" theme....
Edwards spoke of joining what he called “two Americas” — one of privilege and another of want. Though very common, the falseness of this argument is very frustrating. When - in the entire history of civilization - have we NOT had both privilege and want in any given society? (hint: never)
It's a false argument, and he has to know it.
I've another question, though: He cites "privilege" and "want" in America. Which does he propose to eliminate? He claims a "moral responsibility to lift these families out of poverty", but he proposes we do so by applying punitive taxes to the wealthy, taxing investment, and capping profits.
If you plan to punish privilege....what does that leave, Mr Edwards?
* John Edwards is campaigning in Virginia, and talking about unemployment. Unemployment? In Virginia? Where the unemployment rate is only 3.6%? Yeesh.
