I get mail
Posted by Jon Henke

Somehow, I've gotten on the Republican Party mailing list. I can only assume it's the result of occassionally writing to my Senator on some topic of interest. (you know the routine: "Please support Bill 1042, which would mandate capital punishment for politicians. For which offense? What do you mean 'offense'?") Other than that, I know of no way the Republican Party would have acquired my mailing address.

At any rate, I've recently gotten letters asking for a contribution, and a lovely picture of George W and Laurua Bush (autographed! By a machine!). And by "lovely picture", I mean "a useless picture I would never display, not in a million years". The latest letter I've gotten is the strangest yet. It says...

Dear Friend,

Based on your remarkable support for President Bush in 2000 and our Republican Senate candidates in 2002, I am honored to extend to you an invitation to become a Platinum Member of the Republican Presidential Task Force.

Fewer than one percent of Republicans will ever attain this honor.

Now, you can look this up for the 2000 election if you like. You can also check other election cycles here. Just enter the name "Jon Henke". I have NEVER given money to a political Party or to a political candidate. Nor have I ever volunteered my time.

In fact, I did not even vote for a Republican in either the 2000 or 2002 elections.

"Remarkable support", indeed. Those are low standards they have at the Republican Party. I think I'll pass. Again.
