Editorial Chairs

Why do they even bother getting "experts" to write for the NYTimes editorial pages, if this is the result:
- Thomas Friedman, an expert on foreign affairs, writes about NAFTA and its domestic and social impact.
So, with that topic taken....
- Bob Herbert, an expert on "social trends", writes a column on the current economic situation.
So, with that topic taken....
- Paul Krugman, an expert in economics, writes a column about some stupid pop culture reference.
So, with that topic taken....
- Maureen Dowd, an expert at stupid pop culture references, writes a column about foreign affairs.
As James Taranto likes to say...."what would we do without experts"?
