Chance Phelps journey home
Posted by McQ

An incredible and moving account by a military escort officer who escorts a young Marine's body home after he's killed in Iraq.

I can't imagine you having a dry eye when you finish it And I hope you are as gratified by the reaction of ordinary Americans at every step of the way, as I was. It again helps you understand the basic goodness of this country and its citizens.

A tip of the hat to Mike and Cold Fury for this one.

Just as I worry that maybe we as a nation are losing heart and the will to fight this very necessary war, I read this and I was heartened.

These people, and especially Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, are my heroes.

In reading this, I realize how special a nation America is...

McQ, read this, and posted on it myself, the other day. My eyes glazed over more than once. Honor does still exist.

I was very pleased to hear how the people of Chances home town reacted and to hear of all the flags that were hung everywhere. I'm very thankful for what Chance did for our country and it's people. I knew Chance through my cousin and my brother, we laughed and got along great for the little time we had. I will miss seeing his smile.

Walking for Chance is a group of friends who are running in the 2004 Marine Corps Marathon, 31 October. We are giving 100% of our proceeds to the Chance Phelps' Memorial Fund to send Brunton Binoculars to Chance Phelps' fellow Marines in Iraq. Read about it at www.walkingforchance.com
