Gore on TV
Posted by Jon Henke

Al Gore TV is in the TV bidness....

Former Vice President Al Gore plans to build a youth-oriented cable television network he hopes will become an independent voice in a media industry dominated by large conglomerates, he said on Tuesday.
Flashback: Al Gore, November 2003...
The "quasi-hypnotic influence" of television in the United States has fostered a complacent nation that is a danger to democracy, former Vice President Al Gore said this week. ... "If people are just staring at a little box four hours a day, it has a big impact on democracy," he said.
"Gotta get me a piece of that dangerous-to-democracy TV action" Al Gore didn't say, but was apparently thinking at the time.

(Note: I don't really have a problem with Gore heading a TV venture. I'm just amused at this)

Link Via Captain's Quarters, who has a great deal more. Apparently, he's not buying the "independent" claim...

Not that they're required to be, of course -- but having Al Gore claim that this group would put all that money ($70 million was the asking price, according to the NY Daily News six months ago) into this kind of venture while claiming to be apolitical stretches credulity to the breaking point.
One suspects it will be apolitical in the same sense that Foxnews is "fair and balanced".
