Global Warming: The Movie!
Posted by Jon Henke

Can somebody explain to me how a movie about a storm that "happens once every 10,000 years" can be about human-induced global warming? I mean, if it's going to happen every 10,000 years anyway, shouldn't Al Gore be out doing spin-outs with Ralph Nader in their 8mpg Corvairs? I mean, if it's gonna happen anyway, what the hell.

And yet, Al Gore lends credibility to this movie?

Former Vice President Al Gore sees it another way. "This is a rare opportunity to have a national conversation," he says.
Compare and contrast with Al Gore, circa January 2004....
And wealthy right-wing ideologues have joined with the most cynical and irresponsible companies in the oil, coal and mining industries to contribute large sums of money to finance pseudo-scientific front groups that specialize in sowing confusion in the public’s mind about global warming.
Gore translated: "It's not bad science...it's our bad science."

Gore isn't lending the movie credibility. What a foolish notion! To do so, he would have to begin by HAVING some stockpile of credibility on the global environmental consensus from which to lend out.

What Gore is attempting to do is BORROW credibility FROM the movie.

"Hey, yeah, if you believe any of THAT, then you should believe ME, 'cause, you know, I told you all that, years ago, in my book -- remember my book? Hollywood made this movie based on MY book, just like they put Ryan O'Neil into MY _Love Story_, well, me and Tipper. C'mer, Tipper, lay another liplock on me, sweetie! But as I was sayin' ... This movie will scare you silly, and you SHOULD be scared but you SHOULD take it seriously (it's NOT silly!) and you should put more trust in me and people like me to protect you from goblins and boogeymen and global warming..."
