"Libertarian" Moonbattery
Posted by Jon Henke
Justin Raimondo and antiwar.com are sad testaments to the fact that every political movement has its fringe-dwelling conspiracy theorists. Take this recent Raimondo column, for example. Based on the fact that we know a name, but little else, about one of the civilian contractors with no security clearance who worked at Abu Ghraib, Raimondo concludes that "U.S. and, in all likelihood, Israeli intelligence officers looked on approvingly" while the Abu Ghraib tortures were ongoing.
Why ever would Mr Raimondo conclude that Israel was somehow behind this? Well, simple....the contractor about whom we know so little is named "John Israel". Game, set, match!
Ok, let's leave aside the assumption that the Mossad - (per Justin) the "most ruthless (and daring) intelligence agency of them all", of which "Only the KGB ever rivaled its reputation" - would conceal their involvement through the inpenetrable guise of a Code-Name "Israel". Leaving that aside, let's just enjoy how the fog of antiwar has lifted on Mr Raimondo....
John B. Israel, an Iraqi-American Christian and one of two civilian contractors implicated in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, returned home to California a few weeks ago and, until Monday, was living quietly with his wife, Rosa. [...] Mr. Israel, who was born in Baghdad in 1955, was one of three Iraqi-Americans working as translators at Abu Ghraib. Born in Iraq; lives in California; Christian. Boy, that's pretty deep cover.
It probably goes without saying that, as of this writing, Justin Raimondo has continued to harp on his pet theory of "Israeli involvement" at Abu Ghraib....but not a word about the fact that "John Israel" - the lynch-pin for that argument - turned out to be an Iraqi guy, living in California.
Dolt.
