"We won't vote for you, now.....still"
Posted by Jon Henke
The NAACP is getting the Presidential brush-off...
President Bush declined an invitation to speak at the NAACP's annual convention, the group said. Needless to say, the NAACP was in high dudgeon...
“We’re not fools. If you’re going to court us, court us in the daytime, but not like we’re a prostitute where you run around at night or behind closed doors and want to deal with us, but not want to deal with us in the light of the day,” says Mfume. “Mr. Bush has now distinguished himself as the first president since Warren Harding (1920-1923) who has not met with the NAACP. So, we’ve got a 95-year history and a president that’s prepared to take us back to the days of Jim Crow segregation and dominance, an era where dialog is required, not distance.” They are simply shocked that President Bush wouldn't come to their conference. Shocked, I tell you! Why, it's almost like Bush took Mfume seriously, when Mfume said of Bush, among others....
"You have now become persona non grata," he admonished the four in absentia. "Your political capital is the equivalent of Confederate dollars." You'll understand if it appears to me that Mfume is the one who would like to treat the President like a prostitute, smacking him around one day....then complaining that Bush won't come see him
Well, if that's the way it works, I'm sending this letter to Mr Mfume through the NAACP website....
Dear Mr Mfume,
I'm sorry to see that you've become a race pimp, using your organization to leverage race for political advantage. Apparently, the equal rights movement--a noble cause--has become captured by special interest political advocacies. I hope that the African-American community can break free of these chains, too, and I hope that you will be recognized as part and parcel of this intellectual slavery.
By the way, you are cordially invited to dinner with my wife and I this Saturday.
Regards,
Jon Henke So, what do you suppose the odds are he'll be joining us for dinner Saturday?
On a strategic note, it's hard to imagine this will have a negative impact on Bush. African-Americans who will vote for Bush probably do not pay a great deal of attention to NAACP advocacy. Captain Ed has more.
